I believe the reason why G:DAMM and Domination (and Unleashed and Double Smash for that matter) share the same box-arts is because they're companion releases, like you said, but also because were made by Atari/Pipeworks. I guess is saved them the trouble having to make something brand-spanking new. Also a few fun facts: --The Japanese Version of the game has different designs for Godzilla, Mothra, and Mechagodzilla, all to coincide the then-upcoming release of *Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.* Godzilla was colored grey and given his scar chest, Mechagodzilla was turned into Kiryu, and Mothra was given a color scheme that was more accurate to her real colors. --Hedorah was also planned to appear. However, he was replaced by Rodan, most likely due to Rodan's higher popularity. The biggest clue to this was that unusually green gas attack that Rodan releases at the 2:58 mark. Definitely agree that the roster was expanded. Would've loved to have seen Anguirus too. I don't get the appeal for having Mecha-King Ghidorah be the final boss here since he really isn't "final boss" material. I think it should've been an original monster instead.
Biollante probably would have made for a better final boss because mecha king ghidora isnt really as strong of a monster. Hes really slow and dies after just a couple hits of godzillas atomic breath. From what I am able to understand about the final boss portion is that it was originally supposed to be Biollante, with her vines attacking in a similar fashion as MKG, but some sort of complications came up during the planning stages (I think it was a character rights issue) and the mechanized space hydra replaced the bio-engineered beast.
I love this game! I had a copy when I was younger, recently scored another copy and I'm happy to have it back, especially with the current shortage of decent Kaiju games in this day and age.

One of the very first Godzilla video games I played...and I’m glad it was. Beating the crap out of Rodan, Mothra, and more. This is how I got into Nintendo! And here’s a little tip. If you want to activate Godzilla’s atomic breath move, you can jump with the R button. When you’re finished jumping, keep holding the R button and _then_ you can press the L button to fire your atomic breath. And this goes the same with all the other playable kaiju.
It's weird that Rodan gets a generic green belch. In the Rodan movie, he has a toxic(?) breath attack in one scene. They maybe could have used that for a projectile attack. Or maybe he could have thrown rocks like in Ghidrah: The Three Headed Monster.
I got extremely lucky and managed to find this game along with the instruction booklet for around $30! Had a reproduction case made for it and I love it!!!
Fun fact: The ones that developed Godzilla Domination are the same ones behind the Shantae games. Yeah not joking, WayForward were the ones that made this, which would explain the fanservice. lol
Hopefully the rumored 2D Godzilla vs Kong game coming later this year is the game weve been waiting for. Plays like Dragonball Fighterz but MONSTERS INSTEAD
Originally, mecha king ghidorah was going to be Biollante. They changed it for unknown reasons however. In Europe Gigan and Anguirus are shown on the box art as being in the game, but they aren't in the game. They got removed.
I found the game at my local game store (for a decent price), but the first time I ever played it was via emulation, especially the Japanese version which had some differences from the US release. All and all, I enjoyed this game.
The game is basically a beat em up styled fighting game, just like sonic battle because you can move up and down but you can only attack left and right
Fun fact: The reason Mecha King Ghidorah was huge, was because he was originally going to be Biollante.

Destroy All Monsters Melee is actually not only a good Godzilla game but it's one of my favorite games in the GameCube Library.
I quite enjoy this game! Theres not much too it, but for what it is, it delivers the goods! Overall, its one of the better Godzilla titles!
