    Salmon Eggs will catch Trout consistently for sure, they have for years. However, Powerbait extra scent with glitter outfishes eggs 9 days out of 10. Not bragging but take this from someone who dishes for Trout 70+ days a year. I carry both. But Powerbait rules the day

      Andy, if I could only carry one bait it would be nightcrawlers. Day in day out all times of the year nightcrawlers are tops, especially for native and pressured stocked trout. Use half a crawler rigged threaded on hook. Straight drift with size 8 Baitholder hook and 1 to 2 bb shots depending on flow. Learn to fish these properly and you'll limit out consistently, I promise.

      Man I use to wouldnt fish with anything but pink and red salmon eggs. With the small split shot above my hook. Just drift fishing. Cleaned many a trout cuz of em. I quit trout fishing for 15 years. My dad had been telling me about three powerbait marshmallows orange and that's literally all he uses for freshly stocked fish. After a week or more he'll change it to something else. I've been having luck with those damn mouse tails man. We fished creek other day that had been least month since been stocked and I drew some big fish out of holes with the mouse tails. Only hooked up with 1, got it to bank and he came off. Oh well. I have decent luck with those mice tails. Salmon eggs. Powerbait

    Right On Man. Now I know how to use the eggs. New to fresh water fishing other than inner city ponds. I did catch 89 trout in half a day on the Colorado River in bullhead city az. The locals told me to get an ultralight rod, 4 lb line and half ounce gold castmaster. I had a grand time. But after watching your video I’ll try the eggs next. You are a good teacher thanks

    Salmon eggs are one of the most versatile trout baits out there. They can be fished alone or paired with almost anything. No trout fisherman should ever be without them. Pautzke Balls O Fire, and Atlas Big Boy are the only eggs I use. I grew up on Balls O Fire, and since Pautzke Bait Co is located not very far from where I live in WA, I have a little bit of bias towards them. But the Atlas Big Boy eggs are really good too, both of them are nice firm eggs, not soggy little sacs like some egg companies. I have heard good thing's about Mike's salmon eggs too, but haven't ever tried them myself.

    Question for all.
    I’m hitting New Mexico streams on Friday. It’s still spring runoff so the water will be high, fast and muddy. What baits work best in situations like that? I’ve never used anything besides eggs and spinners. They do fine but after eat chi omg all the things on this channel I want to try to branch out

    • @Unspoke
      @Unspoke 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How'd it go? I was in a similar situation last year with an extra 2 feet of fast rushing waters. I got through it my using a size 3 split shot sinker, which was heavy enough to sink down in the fast current. Then, I switch up to the black and gold panther spinner and had no success until I made a cast downstream. As I reeled it back to me, a giant brook trout hit and I quickly landed it. I measured it to be 14 inches but it was fat!

    What color is the best

    • @CaptainHightop
      @CaptainHightop 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For stock trout pretty much any color will work The key for the stock fish is getting them to see or smell the bait. Stocked trout are not very selective in their feeding. With wild trout in rivers that are much more selective in their feeding it can be effective to match the stage of natural salmon eggs in the river. Fresh eggs are bright red and as they age they turn to an orange and then a yellow and then translucent. Red eggs during the height of the spawn usually are most effective with the other colors becoming better as it gets further away from the spawn.

    • @bjnelson9490
      @bjnelson9490 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptainHightop If you can only carry one color carry the Orange Eggs. Be sure to carry Yellow Glitter Powerbait and nightcrawlers and you'll be set. As for eggs and Powerbait keep them in your best after the first week of a stocking. Well presented nightcrawlers are then by far the best bait you can use. As for wild trout, they are no where near as difficult to catch as a week old stocked trout. They've seen everything under the sun by the 1st weekend. I've guided for years and the mark of a good Trout Fisherman is how productive he is on stocked Trout after they've been in there 7 days or more. Challenge yourself as such and you'll see what I mean

      @Unspoke 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bjnelson9490 Does this mean that I'm no longer an amateur? Haha. I just picked trout fishing in the summer of 2019 in North Carolina and been fishing in a stocked lake since I moved to CA in the fall. Since then, every time my father-in-law and I go out fishing on the stock lake, I have always caught more trout on every single trip.
      Like you mentioned, I agree that a well presented nightcrawler is the best choice. I tried Powerbait, but had no success so I don't have a clue on what people mean when they say that they've caught trout on Powerbait. Berkley Gulp though, is a different story. Just recently on my last trout fishing trip (this July 4th weekend on a full moon), my largest trout on the trip came by the Gulp. After that experience, I went to the store and stocked up since they're having a deal right now at 25% off. Though I only caught 1 trout on the Gulp and the rest on the nightcrawlers, it has proved enough to me that I have grown in trout fishing, which before this I was an avid bass fisherman.
