Did Justin Martialis (great name), the man that assassinated Emperor Caracalla, know he would be killed immediately after the assassination? He must have expected it, right? That's an interesting story in itself as far as the nature of the martial Roman character.
Yes but Macrinus was a real person not a Hollywood fantasy there for he should be portrayed as the historical sources report him as not a 21st century afrocentric toy

All North Africans are mixed race. In the 2nd century, the North Africans were predominantly Caucasian mixtures. There were several statues made of Macrinus during this period. He was clearly, a Caucasian man of some mixed ancestry. Basically, he was similar to many lighter skinned North Africans, that are about 80% Caucasian. This Gladiator ll movie misrepresents the Macrinus likeliness. He was predominantly Caucasian.

I just saw the movie. Entertaining, but with a disappointing ending. Denzel steals the movie, no one else in the movie comes close to stealing the spotlight. Gladiator fights take the secondary role here, the real fun is Denzel playing games and political tricks on the evil politicians of Rome. Macrinus comes across as a man having fun within the evil. Denzel may get an Oscar for this. If the ending was handled better, this movie would be 8/10.....Final verdict: 7/10 worth a visit to the theater, great Rome architecture and scenery
This movie was awesome just like me watching Highlander where Sean Connery was Egyptian he was great or watching the great Al Pacino play a Cuban exile in scarface or Carlito's way.

There were Black Berbers and still are. Yes Macrinus perhaps should have been played by an Amazigh Berber, but Roman statues have Macrinus with very curly hair. Hmm what a coincidence.....maybe Macrinus was mixed with Sub-Saharan African? Who truly knows....but after I saw Gladiator 2 last night, I have a hard time imagining anyone else who could have done a better job then Denzel. I doubt there are any Amazigh Berber actors as charismatic, no disrespect of course.
