Yes but Macrinus was a real person not a Hollywood fantasy there for he should be portrayed as the historical sources report him as not a 21st century afrocentric toy
As a student of history I have come to the conclusion that the most free person who lived the best life throughout history was , according to todays standards, a very small yeoman type farmer who lived somewhat close to a moderately large city which was not that important to anyone of power and just wealthy enough to warrant being valued, yet not warrant being plundered as there would be always a few more valuable cities in the region.
Denzel played this character like he should have played him. Denzel Washington is an A list actor and because he is in this movie, people will come to see it. Denzel always gives an excellent performance. He has already proven himself.
Did Justin Martialis (great name), the man that assassinated Emperor Caracalla, know he would be killed immediately after the assassination? He must have expected it, right? That's an interesting story in itself as far as the nature of the martial Roman character.
That's a good question 🤔 In my person opinion I think maybe he thought that he would be revered as a hero. Because, Carracala was so ruthless and cruel of a murderous Ruler. He might of assumed and heard the other soldiers fear of their lives. Plus, Mecrinus was probably manipulating and putting a battery in his back to carry out the assassination. So, when the soldiers attacked him with no hesitation. He couldn't plead his case or say who was his co conspirator. And that's just my opinion what I think what happened. I could be wrong though if course.
The unstabilisation of the parthian empire, by Caracalla, has had a deeply serious impact : the creation of the new persian empire, that would turn into a headache for the romans.
