I am not Japanese. I live in the middle of the USA and I have always done this since i was quite young if a car stops to let me cross.. I don't really know why exactly it just comes naturally.. it is almost like.. saying thanks.. before I quickly move along while i would say probably my version is probably more subtle these days than when i was younger and can sometimes just be a head nod.. the idea i think is probably pretty similar.

Placing a item where someone else can find is is also done in the Netherlands, well at least in Friesland province that is. In smaller towns it's very normal to do that.
Uber eats is normal in the Netherlands, so wouldn't be too weird really for me. Uber taxi's however are forbidden here as there are strict taxi rules (and that isn't a good thing, if you visit avoid those at all cost as they are insanely expensive)
You have been in Japan for too long:
    - If you gotten used to the tiny cars and forgot EU and US cars are bigger.
    - If you gotten so used to your cosplay look that you accidentally wear in the west and wonder why everyone looks weird at you (sorry, but it's true)
    - If you gotten so used to seeing vending machines everywhere and forgot it's just a Japan only thing

I feel like you left out New Years in terms of holidays celebrated in Japan (not counting other Japanese only holidays). Also, the blinker being called a winker is because car lingo came over from British English (so the handlebar instead of the steering wheel, etc.). I, for the record, was also one of the strange foreigners wandering around in any weather in a t-shirt. When I stayed in a hotel overlooking Osaka Castle they put me on the foreigner floor and I remember being annoyed at how loud mouthed a lot of the people were.

You get culture shock whenever you speak to your own relatives.
You are confused by petty crime in other countries.
You don't have energy to go out and meet other people because you have a Japanese work ethic and wouldn't dare ask a colleague out as it might cause you to lose face.
