Actually, everyone who has done so all say the same thing. Gettysburg there is the hardest part. Once you have established yourself it becomes affordable. Especially, if you live in the suburbs and don't buy a car. Cathy may be able to confirm this. Cathy...?
This one might date me a bit, but when I first arrived in Japan back in 2000 all the foreigners (from Western countries anyway) had an encyclopedic knowledge of which convenience stores had toilets with seats and which ones had squats.
You know you've been living in Japan a while when you stop noticing the music played over the speakers all over town that happens at sunset (to remind kids to go home). PS the vans with speakers are annoying but I thought the helicopter with speakers was a bit ridiculous... and yes, that really happened.
Hey Cathy, what's the thing that you're still find it surprising in Japan? I've been living here in Tokyo for over a decade, and the thing that still surprise me is that a LOT of companies in here still using a FAX MACHINE ! 😁😁
I lived in FLA and can confirm that fact. However, I moved back to New Hampshire for medical reasons. Here, the mosquitoes are large enough to have TAIL NUMBERS!

you don't find it strange adults riding on the pavement. when one of richest countries in the world, people ride so many awful bikes, up such steep hills.
Richness does not correlate to stupid, in whatever way. You don't need a $1000 bike for riding. No one uses bikes more than the Netherlands, and they have a LOT of cheap 1 gear bikes. Called "Oma fiets"
Almost everyone rides on the pavement in Tokyo, because regulations allow it (provided you "feel unsafe" on the road, which... well, trying to prove anyone otherwise might be challenging). Most people cycle relatively short distances, and at a leisurely pace, so there's little incentive to get anything shiny and expensive, so long as it gets you places. Most bikes I see are in very decent repair, and many people ride electric bikes these days -- they're just more of a Toyota Corolla than a Ferrari.
i love that half of these facts are just the word "Hello"
When you have to hit that word count in an essay 🤣
imagine if everyone that tells a stereotype about you, you pull out a waifu wrapped in tentacles and gift it to them.
She says "comment below if I missed something" as if I had the money to live in Japan 😭💔

Big lol @ Cathy when she said she just says yes when asked about beer!!!
37 - if you're from a western country and live in japan for a long time, you got used to letting people who are in hurry to pass by your right side
That's pretty much a norm in a lot of western countries too or at least in most European countries. Fast traffic moves on the left, even on foot.
@@mr.2083 Oh, my bad!

What would be the top five stereotypes you have heard of if someone is from America in Japan?

You look for the subway exit that exits on the other side of the road so you don't have to deal with Shibuya Crossing.
You have a very sweet voice, pronunciation and articulation. Cute.
