I always LOVE IT when Victoria literally takes control of the dog in a minute and the owners just stand there in wonder like “Victoria owns him/her now” Goes to show what a professional she is and her experience over the decade. It also goes to show how easy it can be if you can just UNDERSTAND them better.
I watch the show a lot and i'm still unsure of a lot if the behaviours of our family dog and how to improve it honestly ! But i guess consistency and regular walks are key.
We asked about having our girl spayed, and was told, at 4 years old she was too old. Now, at nearly 13, The forever jumping your leg is exhausting, but she so darn perfect ..... it’s just 2 weeks out of a year. She’s my everything and I’d never see her hurt. She only attacked somebody once, and that was cuz they attacked my husband!! I banned my husbands dad from our home for hurting her. If she needs telling off, I point and say no, that’s a naughty.
That doesnt have to do anything with miracles. She just knows how a dog should be treated and trained and tells the owners, who obviously dont know that

dalmatians are notoriously high strung and hard to train, as well as predisposed to issues like this. hes also not being exercised properly. being a rescue he likely was already with an owner who didnt know how to handle his breed and also didnt properly raise him or understand the breed.
@@kimberlystratton1597 nope just a person whos spent the last two years professionally training dogs and who has 4 clients who have dalmatians and only 1 is nice and easy to train. so.

He had a brain tumor come to find out after he died. It was causeing him pain but jot other noticable symptoms and he started being mean and biting.. I rememebr he was chained out sode before he died and every single person was always warned to keep a distance and if you ever seen him loose hide!
I remember watching this show as a kid whenever it came on. Then when I got a dog of my own I remembered a lot of the stuff Victoria did, especially this "walk the other way when the dog pulls" trick and my dogs have been so well behaved thanks to the advice from this show all those years ago. SO nostalgic and wonderful to see these again!
I love this dog. He is a typical Dalmatian. You train them well and everything is okay. They are wonderful with children. You just have to be very clear in communication but gentle at the same time. What never worked with my Dalmatian was this method to turn and walk in the other direction. Maybe because she was not interested in a special thing, I don't know. She just wanted to walk or run. It got much better with using a very normal dog harness. It made her relaxe. She differated between older children and toddlers. With toddlers she was extremely soft and careful. Normally she sat down and waited very gently what the child could do. She was very lovely with cats. She helped a mother cat to nurse her newborn kittens. Our neighbours Dalmatian always protected their toddler during nap time. When the child woke up, the dog went to the parents and told them immediately.
We have a lab, she is a greedy pig if you don't make sure doors are shut properly she will steal out the kitchen or bin, but she is fantastic with the newborn lambs that need a little TLC if they're mother isn't interested.
Dalmatians are great dogs if trained properly and get enough exercise. They used to be coach dogs when we still used horses and carriages. (Jan Griffiths).
@Daniel Thompson no, it's a dog who is unlucky enough that it's humans don't care enough about it to TRAIN it, and expect good manners. A dog should always be lower down on the pecking order than the humans, *and* know it's place in the pack.
When our dog was little he also stole food from the table. My mom put her keys into a lunchbox, put food on the table, hid behind the door (so he didn't know we saw what he did) and waited for our dog to try to steal the food. Then she threw the box (not at him), so it made a lot of noise. He was so startled, and never again took food from the table :-)
any dogs can be SUPER hyper if not taken care of properly and if you don't correct bad behavior with something they don't like it will never stop. My dog is SUPER SUPER hyper but once I bring out the correction collar he stops and calms down cause he knows what the collar does. i try not to use it unless he's being bad like getting into the trash. I'm getting to the point where he listens when I say no but will still try when your back is turned.
@@haleybeldin9247 My dog when he tries to steal food gets a smack to the nose or butt. If he's dragged food from the trash I roll up a newspaper and smack his nose and tell him he was bad and he lays down. Or I use his correction collar and show it to him that he'll have to put it on if he's being bad and he goes to lay down, or grabs a toy and tries to be good after that. Sometimes verbal training doesn't work. My dog only stops bad behavior if I grab him away or yell NO really loud.
I hate to hear frustrated owners say they'd rather put the dog down..The reality is it's the owners fault so they should be put down.. Yay for Pongo! I'm so proud of you!
While I totally agree with you and i'm so glad they had her come to help, I do understand that they felt afraid we would badly injure someone from biting. Yes, it was because he was not trained well, but I can see why they were so worried. But I still agree with you.
I have a border collie. She is very high strung and was incredibly difficult to train, as a puppy. Her recall was so bad, that I couldn't even get her to come in the backyard. But, I persisted and used a long leash to practice recall for hours, until she was reliable offleash. It paid off in spades, as she will come now back mid-chase, even if she's chasing a deer or a cow. It very important to establish clear rules from the beginning.
I mean it's still a border collie though. I own a shiba inu that's almost 2 now and she's so good for a shiba but she's never gonna be as reliable as a golden retriever or a border collie or a shepherd. Training is key but it so depends on the breed as well. These people aren't even trying though, they literally just give the dog a command but when it doesn't listen they keep going so he learns that there's literally no consequence to not responding
It really is as it makes things so much easier, but it's also important to realize that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Training is a lifelong experience, but if you have a dog you've never bothered to train properly, all hope isn't lost because you didn't start from the beginning.
I used to walk many dogs and established my leadership on the first day. I even got a pitbull to listen to me and respect me. After that, I never had any trouble. I agree that every dog is different and they will all have different issues, but patience and consistent rules, will help establish a happy owner and dog.
Same with my boy. Now we moved in the city, but luckily we have a lot of green space nearby to let the dog free. Nine years old, still so full of energy!
@@fable_enthusiast Dalmatians are listed in the "above average" category according to the book "The Intelligence of Dogs", which is generally what people refer to for the intelligence of various dog breeds. Pongo here seems pretty intelligent, just very poorly trained before Victoria.
progtfn _ Yeah any dog can get fear based aggression if someone HITS THEM and ABUSES THEM. That dog was protecting themselves and being confused because no one trained them. Also Dalmatians are known to be very clever, they know how to make things good for themselves even tho they are not the same as some sheepdogs. Dalmatians need strict but gentle rules. Nah. Fixing healthy dogs is illegal here in Norway, so most dogs you meet will be intact. Fixing doesn't really do much. In fact, most of the unstable male dogs I've met have been fixed because of it, and for sooome reason.. They're still unstable. It's all about training.

@@MyvIsLove2 that's pretty normal. Fixing is not a "fix all problems" kind of thing. It very often makes things so much worse. There are things you can do to help him tho. It sounds kinda gross, but if the female use panties with pads inside, you could ask for those so you can desentizise him.
@TheCatsMeow PrettyHorses a breeder is a breeder. They do health tests, they compete with dogs, they breed with purpose in mind to better the breed (altho some breeder don't really know what "better" is.. Poor pugs 😔), they don't randomly choose a mate, they record the history of their line, including what previous dogs have died from, what health problems they had during life, how long they lived, etc, and most importabtly, a breeder will give you all this information with a smile. A puppy mill, don't do any of this..
@The Lovely Mel Chan this is true with many breeds tho. Serious breeders are already aware of the movie stuff. Dalmatians are wonderful dogs when bred properly. I wouldnt mind one myself as I love doing scent work and sledding.
Sahara Shabee Hittingg isn't bad if it's disciplined. Get over yourselves. It's obvious he didn't severely hurt him. @@trippingazzi7741 the guy admitted to beating the dog?? The dog bites everyone because everyone hits him, when they stopped hitting him he improved. Thanks so much for posting full episodes! My family always watched this show together while it was on. We recently got a second dog, and haven't had time to take her to training classes yet. Neither of our dogs have half the issues the dogs on this show have, but it's immeasurably helpful to have a reminder of all of Victoria's training techniques!
I love this program. It clearly shows that no dog is inherently evil or bad-behaved. They're just misguided, confused, scared or frustrated. But as long as there's someone who knows how to train them, they can change for the better.
In my country there are just a few adoption centres because well... we have strict rules and don’t get to just go get a dog, but that means it’s your choice to get them neutered. Most people do though, because we know it makes them more aggressive..
Sara Danser Norway 😊 well, first off we are a smaller country, but compared to the amount of citizens in America, we still don’t have the same problem. We don’t have puppy mills, and you can’t buy a dog from a store. The only way you can buy a dog is through a breeder, and ofc from people if they need to rehome their pets. Breeders have to be certified, and you usually have to go there to visit one or multiple times before they trust you with a dog. So, again - you can’t just buy one. Most of us chip our dogs, I actually don’t know of anyone who hasn’t. Also, if you treat your animal badly (and badly isn’t just abandoning it, or violently harm them, but also if they look scabby or don’t get food or being walked etc) you will be prosecuted, and the fines aren’t cheap, I’ll tell you that. It’s several 100 dollars and they will take your dog away. We have a few rehoming places (I don’t know the English term, it is not like a centre, just like small places), and they have to walk them three times a day, keep them without giving them stress etc. Overall we are just strict, and you will be heavily fined or incarcerated if you harm them. We also neuter our dogs if they aren’t going to be bred. That is the difference 😊
You should watch the My Cat from Hell episodes. They are basically the guy telling them they don’t have the right stuff to make the cat happy. They buy the right stuff and BOOM: good cat.
They are baiting him they want him to get in trouble, then they laugh at him for getting punished. No wonder he was taking food, they were giving it to him.
What Pongo needs more than anything is running for an hour every day twice a day at least. Preferably even more. Don’t get a Dalmatian unless you want to get a lot of exercise! Fit dogs need fit owners.
I hate when people buy dalmatians and don't exercise with them. They are big dogs and need to be taken out 3 times a day, here where I live ( dalmatian dogs came from here) they don't let you have a breed if you don't have time
Exactly. I understand when dogs are like this it is an inconvenience, but he’s your pet, you have to make compromises. My cat used to knock glasses off the counter, so we stopped leaving them on the counter and made sure they stayed in the sink, dishwasher or cabinet. Problem solved
I love you so much Victoria, I used to watch you growing up, finally got a dog when I was 17, and applied all of the teaching methods I could from you. My dog was a Happy dog. I felt very rewarded 😊💕
Pongo should have been neutered long before this family got him, and definitely before leaving the shelter. It was very irresponsible on the part of the shelter to adopt out an intact animal.
I don't know about dogs but in the case of horses occasionally only one testicle will drop. Which is very bad if you plan on selling it, but the horse isn't a gelding (castrated male) and it's not a stallion, though it can have behaviour problems of a stallion and still impregnate female horses.. They're called a rig.
It’s crazy how simple training can be, yet it can change behaviors for his whole life! If these owners would have started earlier pongo would have been better behaved
I have a Dalmatian. He is the sweetest thing ever and follows all commands. I have never had this problem. It’s not him. They just don’t know how to care for a dog. Idiots.
Apothegmatic Reality But that is far too simplistic. Dogs are food driven and most will respond to that type of reward driven training (sit / food) - she also said even if neutered plus behaviourist may bite again.
i love love victoria, she tells how it is and doesnt put up with bull. its never a dog problem its always a human problem. this is why training from the get go should be a must for any dog regardless of breed or background.
@@Msrosy145 Both are bad, milk is just less bad because it is diluted with milk and has less cocoa in it. I have never had a neutered dog exept for the one i got from the SPCA because it came neutered but they were all a delight and well behaved. It's not that I'm against neutering, it's just its a waste of money if not necessary because my dogs aren't getting any females pregnant and they arnt being aggressive in anyway way so i think it depends but in the context of this video then yes he should have been neutered
@@madelineruml4081 Neutering a male dog cuts down the hormone testosterone, which decreases the tendency towards aggression. It also helps increase the dog's life expectancy; not just in males but females who've been spayed as well.
Lot of respect to the trainer for making the point clear about the aggressiv treatment of the dog. The situation were he bites without a warning could be due to some scents as he sniffed and then grabbed around the area you normally use deodorant.

Dalmatians are known for their hyperactivity...
which is kinda wrong! they are hyper active because 1) they are victims of poor breeding and 2) they are supposed to be a working breed.
It's true. I'm surprised that a rescue gave Pongo to this family. They think it's ok to hit him :/
any dogs can be SUPER hyper if not taken care of properly and if you don't correct bad behavior with something they don't like it will never stop.
Melissa McDonald
They're also prone to deafness, aren't they? that can add to the issues.
I really just think people that have dogs that misbehave are just inconsistent with training or just don’t train at all
It really is as it makes things so much easier, but it's also important to realize that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

Nah. Fixing healthy dogs is illegal here in Norway, so most dogs you meet will be intact. Fixing doesn't really do much. In fact, most of the unstable male dogs I've met have been fixed because of it, and for sooome reason.. They're still unstable. It's all about training.
Fixing a dog won't fix training issues.
In fact it's illegal to fix dogs without medical cause in several places.

In the states a lot of the adoption centers require spay and neuter before you take them home.
A lot of people in the UK tend to buy from breeders.
Eden Winter 🇨🇦 as well.
In my country there are just a few adoption centres because well... we have strict rules and don’t get to just go get a dog, but that means it’s your choice to get them neutered. Most people do though, because we know it makes them more aggressive..
@@Surdeigt , what country? What is the process like?
Victoria is my role model. She says things like they are, without a filter, but at the same time she isn’t rude. Her air around her speaks confident
honestly in half of these episodes the dog just needs to be neutered or needs more exercize lol.

I have a Dalmatian. He is the sweetest thing ever and follows all commands. I have never had this problem. It’s not him. They just don’t know how to care for a dog. Idiots.
They are idiots, but not all dogs are the same. Some dogs naturally follow instructions better than others. Some are naturally more aggressive.
Emma hansen
Nonsense. You’re lucky with your dog. Some are easy. Some are super difficult. Don’t be so smug.
Pip Pipster Everyone is capable of being a good dog, it’s the owners allowing certain behaviour to happen that it’s became a regular thing to do.
Pip Pipster Yes some dogs are easier than others but look how responsive Pongo was! As soon as she started to train him he worked with her.
Apothegmatic Reality
But that is far too simplistic.

Starlight Bettas wait what when was that??? I only saw that the people ate it
Starlight Bettas it’s plain chocolate which is bad for dogs. Milk choc is ok. Brits don’t eat plain choc very often.
@@Msrosy145
Both are bad, milk is just less bad because it is diluted with milk and has less cocoa in it. Dogs need to eat more milk chocolate than they would need to eat dark chocolate to kill themselves, but that doesn't mean it's OK for them. It's like saying drinking a glass that's half gasoline half water is bad, but drinking a glass that is three quarters water one quarter gasoline is OK (it's true that that second option would be less bad, but it's still bad)
Starlight Bettas because he’s a giant dog he’d need a ton to die . He’ll probably get the runs ( diarrhea) or vomit
@@Msrosy145 actually all cocoa is bad for dogs, dark chocolate is just worse. its not hard to not let your animal eat things that are bad for them. its that simple. if people don't want to avoid feeding things that can make them sick, they shouldn't be allowed to have pets.

Punching won't bring any positive change foolish angry man.....
Ah, would u have preferred a ripped off finger?
@@fable_enthusiast AGREED.
Honestly, this show just shows how much victoria knows and cares about dogs. Here abilities are astounding.
NEVER EVER HIT YOUR DOG that is the worst thing in the whole entire world my lord
Dude poncho was literally attacking them! You have to defend yourself or else you’ll end up in the freaking Er
For real
Wolfy Wlf hitting them when they are attacking just makes them attack harder because now your fighting back
renrensiren112 THANK YOU
Esther Syvanen a light tap is not the same as a hit. Light taps don’t hurt the dog in any way. But some people hit there dogs and that is not ok
People are so gullible they watch 101 Dalmations and expect a real dog to have the same behaviour as the animated Disney cartoon
(Not saying these people did just in general)
That Gall :( now I want a terrier to be tramp
Title: food thief
Me: mum look, I'm on youtube!!
Edit: oh maw gawd thank you so much for all the likes❤❤
Angella aaa hahaha me

Angella aaa YASS!!
Lmao😂😂😂😂
Pongo in field with dad: gsjkshebgskdnjds. Pongo with Victoria: YES MAM! HERE! PRESENT!
I stand Pongo.
Spirited animals need to build trust through routines and consistency not compete for domination.
Susan Jensen there is a balance you’ve got to find. Both extremes are going to be good for the dog. Routines and trust are great and very helpful but they’ve also go to know that they aren’t allowed to rule the house.
