As a kid I had a bichon frise. He was one of the smartest dogs I ever knew. He was easy to train and even helped train the dog we got after him. Unfortunately, the dog we got after him was kidnapped while they were outside. When it happened Our bichon frise (who didn’t bark) ran inside barking a storm. There was an infant in the house at the time and even when the baby chased our dog, pulled his tail, or tried to grab him our dog behaved very friendly. Bichon frises are wonderful dogs, they just need training like any other dog
+Yanira Garcia-I had one myself so I know that bichon frise are larger than life dogs with huge personalities. They are extremely smart, they often even know this and pride themselves over how smart they are, but they are so sweet and undyingly loyal to you. It was pretty clear to me early on some of the obvious mistakes the owners were making: treating Lilly as a toy. No dog ever likes to be treated as a toy-something you can dress up and parade around. Not disciplining or correcting Lilly's poor behavior-the mom went to great lengths to cover up Lilly peeing and pooping in the house rather than discipling Lilly for bad behavior. So if Lilly is not checked on this behavior, naturally, as any other 'kid', they'll continue doing it. Bichon frise are very intelligent but very energetic dogs that do need a lot of stimulation. . .it's likely the family mostly kept her in the house, even before Lilly's poor behavior got so far out of control, they didn't want to walk her anywhere. . .Naturally, with that pent up boredom, Lilly lashed out and sought to entertain herself. No matter what she could find-eventually, she focused on tearing up the mail. And because dogs are smart and they do pick up on things like the fact the dad didn't want anything to do with her, Lilly became even more of a momma's girl and sought to seek out her mother's attention in any way she could. And it's likely that excessive barking was due to a combination of unbearable boredom AND trying to seek out attention the way she as a dog knew how to. .. Too often on this show, it all comes down to one thing: poor "parenting." Lack of discipline and also lack of structure. Dogs naturally want to please, they want to make their owners happy and nothing pleases them more. . .You don't have to be mean or cruel to discipline a dog. You just have to be firm and consistent. And of course, give your dog lots of love and playtime. Just basically, be a good parent. Because spoiled/unruly dogs are not too far removed from spoiled/unruly children and it doesn't take much for either in order for even the dog/child to be happier and healthier for a more structured house.
You can love them like children, but part of being a good parent is meeting your child's needs and helping them succeed in life, which this woman wasn't doing. I love my dog and consider her my child, but she is a dog and has dog needs that must be met to keep her happy and healthy in life.
My two favorite episodes on It's Me or the Dog is Teddy Pompom and Lily. Wish Animal Planet brought this show back. I never missed it. I don't watch Animal Planet any more since most of their programming is not about animals but fish tanks, swimming pools, tree house construction. Animal Planet is in the toilet as far as I'm concerned. I love Victoria's training.
Animal Precinct and Animal Cops were the best!! Also Emergency Vets was great too. We don't watch Animal Planet any more either. It's more People Planet nowadays. @@TrophiesNclips
Everybody's talking about the Husband but the lady literally bought the dog without consulting him because he said no to having another child with her? Which is probably one of the worst reasons to buy a dog. Dogs are not a replacement for children, they are part of the family but they have completely different needs. Yeah the husbands attitude wasn't great, but I'd be pretty upset too if my partner bought a dog without discussing it with me because I wouldn't have a child with them and then my partner spoiled said dog to the point that it made life difficult for literally everyone. His attitude wasn't the best and there was definitely some fragile masculinity there, but most of it, I feel was underlying frustration.
Poor guy had the dog even taking over in the bedroom. the wife put the dog above the needs of the family, her husband and likely also her sexlife. Why was the dog in the bedroom to begin with. They could have put her in a cage over night if she does not behave. And I wonder why the neighbours did not get the police involved. And let it terrorize the family w/o getting a trainer earlier. That is an expensive brand, but she did not bother to inform herself or take some training with the dog.
Did this man really say “It’s a girls dog that’s why I don’t walk it”????!!!!! Wow what a beautiful example of fragile masculinity. I’ve seen full grown men walk a chihuahua or a poodle and I’ve thought nothing of it except that it’s a cute dog🤦🏽♀️🙄
@@remoraidz I don't really care, as it's not my business. Still, giving out the dog is the best idea. But your second solution makes no sense at all, it is utterly ludicrous. You obviously have issues.
Seriously. Even though he does agree to walk the dog, having an attitude like that is gross and shows what kind of person he really is. You're a married man with two sons and you still feel that insecure in your masculinity that you can't wallk a small cute dog?
After watching the rest of the video I softened up a bit on the guy, but it's still a shame that that kind of mindset is so pervasive. It keeps people from realizing thw true potential in their lives.
@@leahholt6128 Well, I also think that he thinks like that because there are some shitty people in the world that would call him weak or dtuff like that because of the dog. Because that dog breed is often used in those girly bitchy movies. So he probably was insecure. Its the same with Girls in some situations too. You dont want to be called manly because you play a manssport or whatever. Femeninity is important to man and masculinity to men. So I thin he was just insecure. But he at least changed a bit in the end :)
i wished i could be so shameless around other people when training my dog. i just love how Victoria doesn't mind making weird noises while dragging a dog behind her, or shouting around in a park like a crazy person 😂
And show the chewed up bits. Teacher (shocked) the dog ate your homework? Boy:and there's the proof Teacher:I didn't know dogs really did do that. Boy:My one did.
Yup. But as to why they had the mail go through some doorslot thingy is beyond me when they had a dog that tore it all up. Is it illegal or something to have an outdoor mailbox there, lolz.
Laura B i agree its idiotic masculanity But tbh if my gf got a dog without asking me i wouldnt like it either i think that should have also been talked about in the video
+Nej Tak-And in almost every single episode of this series, very little needed to be done in order for the dogs to improve. In Lilly's case, all she really ever needed was just some more exercise, stimulation, more playtime and love from the rest of the family, and for her "mom" to stop treating her like a fashion doll. That's it. Small changes like that are really simple, easy to start and maintain, and even improve the quality of life not only with the dog but the rest of the family. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of owners far too long to even WANT to implement these simple changes, if they ever do at all. But if you actually put in some actual EFFORT, these things are not too hard to where often, with dogs behaving badly. . .very little needs to be changed in order for them to be far happier and fulfilled.
Hi Supernanny I'm sorry I got confused but when will you see more of that calculus dogs on earth I wish there's more dogs to play but it costed money so I can't get that many dogs but who cares we have money in our life boat with we get money money will let us have a miserable life I just wish I could have all the dogs I wished
Chloe Falla it's a stereotype kind of like this People see poodles as foo foo show dogs bought by some rich parents for their 10 year old daughter who still likes pink and plays with Barbie dolls and is obsessed with princesses.
Victoria is such a beautiful human being. Not only does she want to help all the pooches of this world, but the humans too (humans are mostly the cause of the pooches' issues)
Unfortunately, he's not the first one I've seen on this show make the same excuse! There was an episode with Pomeranians where the dude didn't want to walk them because they're girly! It's pathetic.
The guy didn't want the dog in the first place. He has no bond with the dog, it was forced on him by the look of it. In my experience little dogs are more aggressive and likely to bite. The lady didn't do her reserch it's clever with lots of energy , the owners weren't suitable for the dog.
it is silly that the father wouldn't walk the dog at first because it was "girly", but the most important thing is that he was WILLING to change and he did. So if you don't mind, I think it's time to stop judging him and look at the positive outcome.
He should have used his own empathy (or lack thereof) to change in the first place. It shouldn't take a dog trainer to tell you what your wife has been trying to tell you the whole time. She should leave him.
@@joypomeroy1452 well...I feel like leaving him at this point would be useless as the problem he has had been resolved. I do agree with you that this shouldn't have been an issue in the first place, but it was. I mean the wife wasn't making the situation any easier by pampering the dog to the max, but that really shouldn't have labeled it as "girly" or whatever. I just think at this point since the problem has been solved and both people have bettered themselves, divorce would be a pointless, extremely painful and messy process.
It's not "silly", it's misogynistic and giving in and walking the dog doesn't mean he isn't still a misogynist. That's why no one is letting him off the hook for his behavior, not because of what it was (not walking the dog), but because of where it came from (misogyny and toxic masculinity).
just because he changed doesn't mean we can't critique it. a lot of men have fragile masculinity issues and take it out on others in the form of misogyny and in this case, refusing to care for his dog. it's important to acknowledge it and discuss it and not just brush the issues aside
@@HMatthews80 he was. She was talking to victoria, so he interrupted her to ask for an apology just cuz the dog barked? So he’s allowed to bark at people if the dog barks at him? That sounds like someone who demands respect but doesn’t give any.

Just ten years ago and toxic masculinity was so awful they wouldn't even walk a dog that seemed "girly" lmao jfc, also that other man from Diesel the husky episode
In the Pugsley episode the dude literally said "cutting my dog's balls off is cutting my balls off, and I'm not letting you cut my balls off". Toxic masculinity is so laughable lmao they take all these precautions to seem tough but it just shows how insecure they are
LastTram 90 I’ve only watched a few episodes of this show so far but fragile masculinity seems to be a common theme with how a lot of these guys feel about their dogs
Betsy Lee Do you really think toxic masculinity is something that can disappear after a decade? It’s existed for centuries, sure we made some progress but that doesn’t mean the problem is solved. Men are still judged for not being “manly enough”.
That guy won’t walk that dog because its a girly looking dog. My 6’1 dad walks an apple head teacup chihuahua (if you dont know what they look like, look it up. They are small, smaller than that dog.)
Ethan Groß no, alpha males aren’t afraid to show femininity because they are confident in themselves. If a man can’t walk a dog because it’s girly he is insecure and certainly not an alpha
It's not just you, as I watched it, I was like "I bet no one else picks up on it, but they even dressed very similar when they were both out walking the dog, both times!
I cracked up in laughter when he was saying I’m afraid to ask her if it’s the dog or me that stays, he started laughing and quickly it to turn a realization as him going “ahh...”
Regarding pets, I really don't think there's anything more masculine than a burly man walking a fluffy, poofy dog down the street, that dog obeying and listening to their owner. That just shows you have so much confidence the dog sees you as their leader, and also that you care more about your dog than strangers' opinions.
The man’s laugh sounds so insecure and awkward, like he’s smart or too good enough for these types of people. Or he’s just too masculine to be in a house with a “girl dog.” XD
The fact that you and hundreds of other triggered women immediately rushed to the comments to make these observations because your female ego was wounded by his comments is much more insecure than anything anyone does in this video.
Victoria, now that I have found you again, I want to thank you for the help you gave me when I first adopted my dog 10 and a half years ago and I was watching you on TV. This video illustrates one of the most important lessons you taught me, which is to turn around and go the other way when the dog is over-excited upon approaching other people or dogs. I could not believe how quickly it worked! Thanks for all you do! ❤
What’s up with all these dudes saying they don’t like “girly dogs”....it doesn’t make sense. How could you let a dog define you🤷🏽♀️. Very unnecessary & judgmental.
i fell down a rabbit hole watching these and Victoria is so amazing its crazy also what he said about it being a girls dog was the dumbest thing ive heard from an adult MAN in my life
my bichon that we've had for 12 years has been the most PERFECT & well trained dog i've ever experienced! im a groomer & dog sitter, coming home to my bichon is like a huge relief after being around such bad dogs all day...we've really been lucky with him
I think it's one of those things you need to be sensible about. I use flexi leads for both my dogs, in dog walking fields behind my house, because I don't trust them off-lead, but want them to be able to run/sniff etc easily, but I wouldn't have them on a long lead if we were on the street :)
@@lucygray3228 Agreed. It's not the flexi lead that's a problem, it's the person using it. I use them for both my dogs in the same way you do. My dogs walk perfectly by my side in the street, but when we're in open spaces, I let them roam and have their freedom.
I use a flexi leash but i only ever let my dog get to the end of the distance if we are in an open area away from people and roads, but when we find people i always shorten it to normal lead length and lock it just to be safe
I think Victoria is a very good dog trainer and I'm very surprised that the adults got on so quickly because for most people there pets really are like there children.
How did you keep your cool with that bloody "girly dog" comment!? We had a rescue Spitz and heard it all the time despite her severe fear aggression (worked on her entire life she was badly abused) men soon shut up and moved if she gave the look or a lip twitch.
8:24..what kind of sorcery does Victoria have!?!? Lol. I love that every dog that's wild and doesn't listen, in every episode, Victoria can get those dogs to listen and give commands like sit. They stop dead in their tracks and listen like good lil angels, even tho totally not....yet anyway. I mean the dogs meet her for first time, and they respect and listen to her instantly, when they won't for their owners at all. She's amazing tho..incredible!!❤️❤️❤️
It's so amazing how quickly these dogs can be trained- it really shows you that the dog isn't the problem, the owners are. Don't just get a dog- learn how to train and properly care for them.
+Cara Donnelly-It will probably happen every rare moment once in awhile but it won't happen nearly as much. As long as my family and I have had dogs, I never even knew that you shouldn't leave the food out all day. We just compensated by letting the dogs out every few hours. Our approach wasn't too bad since at least the dogs were getting let out and they given plenty of chances to pee and poop. But it probably would've been far better had we kept the bowls up for most of the day too. At least one of my sisters has learned that-she only feeds her dogs at certain periods of the day (and she has a young bulldog that eats like a horse. . .) and then let them out around 20 minutes after they've finished eating. And her dogs rarely have accidents in her house.
I mean it also really depends, if you are lucky to be able to have a doggy door, like I do, free feeding isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as they can go outside to do their "business" whenever they want to/feel the need to. Free feeding can be tricky if the dog doesn't self regulate because that could lead to them becoming overweight. If you aren't able to take the dogs out frequently or can't utilize a doggy door, then yes timed feeding is a better solution! :)
I was scrolling through the comments looking fora comment about this. Everyone else seems so taken aback by the man that doesn't want to walk a "girly dog" and I was so annoyed with the passive aggressive man that I paused and started reading the comments. xD
I'm glad Victoria had that passer by who was muttering under his breath....nasty man. That's enough to knock an owners confidence especially if you're trying to train your dog
Rubbish! It is completely unacceptable to have any dog behaving like that on the street. That man didn't know it was a dog in training. He didn't swear at the owner, he was shocked and was quite rightly due an apology. How was he nasty? He wasn't. And for Victoria to say, "He didn't touch you!" Unbelievable.
@@HMatthews80 He was passive aggressive, period. He was just a big dog barking back like a little coward. Also, you seem pretty hard pressed to stick up for him. Were you the coward or just someone who cowers any time you hear a dog bark?

Family yes but not children. They have their own needs.
They are like children in the meausre both need love, s rutine, and a healthy diet.
I treat my dog like my own child soo..
A lot of people use dogs or pets in general to replace their children (grown up usually) and give them love and attention, it make them feel important
True! I only watch pitbulls and parolees

Husband: I'm too much of a MAN to walk this girly dog
Also husband: * moves her paw to wave goodbye *
To be fair, she said she wanted a baby.
Violet You know it takes two to make that decision?
It's said at the start of the episode the husband agreed to a dog
Poor guy had the dog even taking over in the bedroom. the wife put the dog above the needs of the family, her husband and likely also her sexlife. Why was the dog in the bedroom to begin with. They could have put her in a cage over night if she does not behave. And I wonder why the neighbours did not get the police involved. And let it terrorize the family w/o getting a trainer earlier. That is an expensive brand, but she did not bother to inform herself or take some training with the dog.
@@xyzsame4081 cage is a bad idea for the yappy ones. Gates are better as it is less confined meaning less reason to bark.

True
@@leahholt6128 Well, I also think that he thinks like that because there are some shitty people in the world that would call him weak or dtuff like that because of the dog. Because that dog breed is often used in those girly bitchy movies. So he probably was insecure. Its the same with Girls in some situations too. You dont want to be called manly because you play a manssport or whatever. Femeninity is important to man and masculinity to men. So I thin he was just insecure. Such an intelligent dog, really just needed some more exercise and stimulation
But if you actually put in some actual EFFORT, these things are not too hard to where often, with dogs behaving badly. . .very little needs to be changed in order for them to be far happier and fulfilled.

it is silly that the father wouldn't walk the dog at first because it was "girly", but the most important thing is that he was WILLING to change and he did.
@@cookieundertherock1035 This guy is toxic to the family. Also a bad role model for his sons. It would be better for everyone.
I love it when he just laughs awkwardly and it fades away... 😂

Flexi leashes are horrible! No control when you walk with those retractable leashes! Lily is so cute!!!!
I think it's one of those things you need to be sensible about. I use flexi leads for both my dogs, in dog walking fields behind my house, because I don't trust them off-lead, but want them to be able to run/sniff etc easily, but I wouldn't have them on a long lead if we were on the street :)
They really are. I walk dogs for a living. The dogs who have flexi leashes are always the worst walkers
@@lucygray3228 Agreed. It's not the flexi lead that's a problem, it's the person using it. I use them for both my dogs in the same way you do. My dogs walk perfectly by my side in the street, but when we're in open spaces, I let them roam and have their freedom.
Like any tool, it can be used improperly.
I use a flexi leash but i only ever let my dog get to the end of the distance if we are in an open area away from people and roads, but when we find people i always shorten it to normal lead length and lock it just to be safe

Omg this helped me so much! I never knew that leaving the food out all day was wrong! Now hopefully my bichon won’t 💩 in the house anymore
My pets only eat twice a day.
I like how they changed hairstyles each day so that they didn’t have the same hair do at the same time 😂
