- Magnus Carlsen CONTROVERSY: Magnus Carlsen, the former five-time world champion, was kicked out of the World Rapid and Blitz Championships after the Arbiters told him that he had violated the dress code. Magnus Carlsen had worn jeans and the Arbiters had told him to change as jeans was not part of the dress code in the World Rapid and Blitz tournaments. Magnus Carlsen did not agree and the arbiters unpaired him for the ninth round. Following this move, Magnus Carlsen decided to not play in the remainder of the World Rapid and Blitz Championships. "Supposedly" the dress code was implemented to dignify chess and the players. A photo posted online clearly shows the FIDE president dressed in jeans and sneakers in a formal meeting with a senior Chinese government official. What is allowed to the top leadership of FIDE is not allowed to chess players. COMPLETE HYPOCRISY!!!
🤣😂
He was kicked out ❌️
He withdrew ✅️
Bro stop saying he got kicked out when everyone knows it is a LIE. You're lying💀
what's wrong with wearing jeans as long as it's clean and decent. FIDE rules is just plain stupid.
I agree with you.
Chinos that is made to look like jeans was accepted for another player - what an absolute blunder by FIDE...
The Arbiters can wear the jeans and there's a clip of other player convincing arbiters that he is wearing trousers but we can see him wearing jeans in clip. There's more to it that Fide doesn't wanna disclose regarding Freestyle thing that's why he said "This was the last straw" . Hope we get to know more about it from players like Hikaru who is also involved in this whole Freestyle chess.
Arbiters aren’t on camera and they’re not playing so what’s your point????
@@luatala8008 Que en el reglamento de la fide dice que el código de vestimenta se aplica para todos árbitros y jugadores
People dont watch arbiters. Fans don’t pay subs or entry fees to watch arbiters. Arbiters don’t promote chess or attract popularity or money.
aint no way, I actually tried scratching off the hair off your profile picture... I hate you xdd
They pay to watch chess players not their "ATTIRES". This is just absurd that they threatened him to not play the last round even after he said he will change tomorrow! Also there is a photo of fide handbook which includes the rules and there's written the "jeans" are allowed not the torn trousers or jeans ! Also there was another player that just convinced the arbiters by saying that he is wearing trousers but in the clip we can actually see he was wearing the jeans . Also this just adds fuel to the fire that already been developing between Fide and Freestyle chess for some time now.
FIDE disqualified Magnus. Magnus viewers disqualified FIDE.
He disqualified himself. At least check the facts. He couldnt win anymore thats why he purposely created drama. Its the rules and its tradition, why are magnus fanboys defending can u tell ne?
@@michaelsnook7666You've just sucked up what that Sutovsky said you FIDE fanboy. How petty.

The only dishonor is on the side of clueless old FIDE men, with their utterly nonsensical dresscode rules. They have never done anything remarkable and future oriented to promote chess, like Kasparov, Carlsen and private sponsors have. FIDE deseves ZERO respect!
90% viewer are want to see magnus play, does not care with other, so its fide lost, fide need to evolve
He would have lost anyways did u even see the tournament? God
from FIDE website
- Dress Code for players during games in progress The following is acceptable for men players, captains, head of delegation.Suits, ties, dressy pants, trousers, jeans.
- NOT acceptable torn pants or jeans.
=The Business casual ( no jeans) only for award ceremony.
The arbiter abuse his power.
I found this same thing - but the pdf says "proposed" - is this the actual dress code?
They should all wear jeans tomorrow and enter to Jacksons' 'Billie Jean'.
2:30 "I don't think anything more needs to be said" was said by interviewer not Magnus.
Fashion chess championship
The Botez sisters and Judit Polgar will come in lingerie (just joking). By the way, I'm on Magnus' side on this one.
FIDE has been threatening players over Freestyle and trying to control them. FIDE has way overstepped and as a result, they are now running off the best players and causing the public to lose interest in FIDE. I love seeing organizations bite it because they get power hungry.
Let’s say bye bye FIDE. The end of FIDE
Without Magnus watching World rapid nd blitz in Newyork , it's like eating typical south indian Briyani without mutton chops nd onion raitha ..Guess how it feels for die hard fans of Magnus Carlsen who expects him to action in Finals ..Magnus is the current era GOAT, no matter if he is with or without FIDE
kindly correct the video title magnus was disqualified from round 9 only he wasnt disqualified from whole tournament. He voluntarily opt out of remmaining rapid matches and Blitz matches
That would be to long lol
Disqualifying him from round 9 pretty much ended his chances of winning the tournament, no wonder he was pissed.
its easy fide is stupid, disqualifying the top 1 for just a pair of jeans, if i were going to play to that fide tournament ill just wear a boxer brieft, stupid principle.
The human in more important than the clothes.
One can only hope that chess will continue to develop without FIDE and beyond the boundaries of FIDE. The past shows it more and more. Chess is no longer dependent on FIDE
Magnus violated FIDE's stupid dress code, but that doesn't matter. Magnus did the right thing, FIDE did the wrong thing.
They needed a reason to power trip on Magnus. Unfortunately he gave them that reason. He accepted the fine and wanted to finish next game. FIDE power tripped hard but Magnus has options, so he made his choice. Btw FIDE can't milk Magnus for profit now kekw.
Look, let’s be real. The dress code is kind of stupid. But everyone knows the rules before they participate in the event. If you don’t like the rules, don’t play in the event. It’s simple really. Again, I’m no big fan of FIDE and them wielding power like tyrants. I think it’s petty. But this should’ve never been an issue in the first place. FIDE could not bend the rules for Magnus. They had also fined Nepo and others. They all complied and changed pants. FIDE couldn’t have one set of rules for Magnus and another set of rules for the rest of the players. So as much as I dislike FIDE for some of their nonsense, they did what had to be done. And as great as Magnus is, he can be a brat. We’ve all seen it before. But at this point, he’s filthy rich. He doesn’t need FIDE or chess at all for that matter. But he is right on a lot of issues regarding FIDE. He’s just not very diplomatic about it at times. This is definitely one of those times.
Voice of reason.
Agreed. They all implicitly agreed to the rules when they entered the tournament. If they want to change the rules, then lobby for the change before the event. Special considerations are advantages. It's always been a source of contention that the top players get the advantages hasn't it?
I think that the fine alone should be a bit heavy and then he should be allowed to play the game 9 and then come in with the right outfit the next game. Chess is a mental game and not a physical sport. A player should be in the right frame of mind during play. Making him change before a game can affect the outcome of the game. A fine would have been just right and then let him continue playing and then he comes in with the right outfit fit the next day.
Ugly much cheaper chinos that trying to look like genuinely jeans are allowed,
even he with light bleached Chino's was allowed 🤔
And inside the rules of greedy fide elites,
it's not saying that jeans is not completely forbidden.
FIDE is destroying Chess as a sport when they pretend to show chess as a Elite sport,
I don't intend to see the rest of fide chess without world best chess players,
Is it a sport or not ?
Obviously fide can't denying Chess player's meet up with boxer shorts either,
I think this is a sign of fide employees have to reduce salary for themselves,
they are not the right person to decide what is allowed or not.....
Not the first time fide show that it's not about sports,
But about elites control....
Where do you see that rule...? Every rule I can find says that jeans are OK, but torn jeans are not. His are not torn. Also, the rules that you agree with are that you can be FINED. He was fined and had no issue. The rule does NOT say that you can be fined AND made to get changed.
Fide is wrong
I completely support Carlsen on this, these are not 12 year olds that Fide is dealing with, as long as people show up dressed up clean and with decency, I don't see the problem.
One can go back to the WC, where Carlsen said he would proceed if the games were done in a different way, with more games, which he felt was a better way to determine the best player. I agree with him. When I was young, there were interzonal tournaments, followed by 3 matches (quarters, semis, finals) and finally a 24 game match. Now there’s a tournament and a 14 game match, far more random. Look at the two players who played in the WC. Who would have played under the old system? Likely Fabbi and Carlsen (if he were participating), or, in any case, much more likely the two best players. The Candidates tournament is a crap shoot. A 14 game match is short enough that a single loss is hard to recover from, so I see Magnus’ point for a different format. Now we’re in a situation where the best player in the world isn’t involved, so the WC is a farce, like the FIDE WC’s in the 90’s.
The future of the game, at least in the near future, looks to be the Indians. It will be interesting to see where they come down on this.
I think FIDE has been pretty short sided. Why did people go to NYC? Because it was a FIDE event or to watch Magnus? Can you imagine going to the expense of an nyc trip to watch this event and have the main person kicked out because of a pair of jeans? It’s not like Magnus purposely defied them by wearing jeans. Also, the way to have handled it, if they were insistent on no jeans, is to not let the players enter the playing hall. Don’t let them sit down, get comfortable, play a game, and then tell them they have to change. That’s idiotic. It’s not how human nature works. If they had said “I’m sorry, but you can’t enter the playing hall with jeans” I expect Magnus would have been ok with that.
I do hope tomorrow the participants of the tournament will all come in jeans!
The chess organization is definitely wrong they are outdated they are yesterday
Magnus is at the moment in deep frustrated condition.
Any small issue can make any frustrated person agitated and take a hasty decision.
That's what has happened.
He abruptly took a decision not to change his jeans , no matter what.
Bro read up on it, you clearly don't know much. Because this is just wrong. He got fined for having wrong dress code, payed the fine, and then they still asked him to change pants. When it was allready states by him he would change the next day. That's why he accepted the fine to begin with, insted of just chaging clothes. He didn't want to "deal with it" so he chose to pay the find.
And that is why he got upsett. When you pay the find, ur in a compromise, so they didn't have any reason to still say he had to change clothes. In simple terms he payed to not deal with a problem just for fide to say, "thanks for the money, now still do as we say".
Aside from the fact that he had already agreed to be fined, there was a lot more before this - FIDE was clearly trying to push players to choose either FIDE tournaments or Freestyle, and they were trying to work something out. So I think he felt it was aimed at trying to bully him as a competitor...
Henry viii. wanted Anne Boleyn. Magnus Carlsen wants his jeans.
This is probably the greatest wtf comment I have ever come across. Thank you. 🤣
Quick web search, on the dress code 😮😅😊
Torn jeans not allowed 😮
Magnus jeans was not even torn lol. It was just normal jeans. As Nepo pointed out, there were like 40 players in the playing wearing jeans & other stuff in violation of "dress code" the same time they were punishing Magnus for them.
He was not "disqualified". This has been cleared by Emil sutovsky. Magnus was simply not paired for the 9th round because he rejected to the requests of the arbiter. Magnus can very well come and play today in the remainig rounds if he adheres to the rules. Please be thorough with your journalism.
This is a points tally tournament with the best players in the world. Barring someone from a single day effectively ends their chances of winning the tournament. They knew this and clearly didn’t want Carlsen competing.
I believe any associations of games or sports are because of players, and players are not there because of associations
The fact they threatened him to change now or be disqualified tells me Fide doesn't give s*** about Chess or its competitors. Just a stuck up social event for rich snobs who don't appreciate its character.
There's no dignity in this organization need to get a new chess organization that Rivals these creeps
Magnus GOAT of quitting too.
Sports Today anchor should stop calling mc "the greatest player ever". mc is very good, probably most accurate of all time, due to the times he is playing in (computer training). Today, even Deac (for example) is more accurate than Kasparov, does that mean Deac is better or more significant than Kasparov?
Magnus should create his own federation! (I don't know... just an idea....)
Why didn't they give him neat qualified trousers? If anything else asked for Alireza, "Guccireza", for a pair to of trousers? He must have plenty of them! I'm certain Ali would have borrowed a pair of trousers to Magnus, wouldn't he?
Sad to see Champ leave like this.
They gave him a choice - change or be fined. He agreed to be fined, and thought it was over with. Then they said, no, you also have to get changed. He said... NO. It's not that there weren't a hundred options - I'll bet a ton of people in that room would have changed pants with him! As he says it was the principle of the thing.
@@jtidema Yes, he is principled guy for sure, he wants to keep his own trousers. Asking if anyone wants to change trousers would have been too embarrassing for the GOAT of chess so he just leaved.
It is very possible Magnus didn't have other trousers with him. Like he said he is too old for this kind of stuff. His fashion days are long gone, he doesn't care that kind of things anymore. And to leave shopping new trousers in the middle of the tournament in NYC wouldn't be easy, or more like it would have been almost impossible task.
@@bekanav Huh? What I'm saying is that there WERE a hundred ways to fix this and he didn't want to goof around. He paid the fine, that should have been the end of it "Magnus Carlsen fined for dress code violation" would have been a silly enough headline.
@@jtidema But dress code rule violation would not have ended before Magnus had proper trousers. Certainly you can imagine numerous ways how he could have fixed it, like possibly borrowing trousers from Alireza or switching with someone - or even going shopping for new trousers right after Tari game, hoping not to get too late for the next round.
At least for me going shopping for trousers in NYC - in time pressure and not knowing local shops etc. - feel quite uncomfortable situation. And if this possibility was out of question we can only wonder how would it feel trying to play high level chess in someone else's trousers?
It's a POWER PLAY from the MATRIX more than the dress code!! Message: Our rules, we own YOU!!

Magnus: Fischer was insane!!!
Magnus:**
After seeing no hope to win after 8 rounds, He decided to disqualify himself to avert embarrassment. He can blame FIDE for ridiculous rules and claim himself undefeated rapid-blitz world champion for rest of his life.
😂lmao...he was still able to grasp the 1st position.. Rest of the top players are having a score 6/9 or 6.5 /9 but magnus scored 5/8 may be he could catch them in next match..and win the rest of the matches in a row with the from he is playing today..wtf are u taking bout😅
that's a crackbaby take
@atulkotwal I don't think he care about it that much he already won 12 rapid and blitz titles , also it was not over he was on 5 and not pairing him for the last round kills the chances of him winning any medal but there was also the blitz .We can clearly see it was unintentional that he wore jeans otherwise he could have wore jeans on first day but threatning him by saying you need to change for last round otherwise we will not pair you just pissed him off. Well there's definitely the freestyle and fide controversy also going on !
If he had won his last round, he'd have entered the top 30. He was doing really well that day and was easily making up for his first, bad day.
Magnus is in deep frustrated condition.
A small issue can make him agitated and take a hasty decision.
That's what has happened.
He abruptly took a decision not to change his jeans , no matter what.
Is that was a fashion show???
It's a chess tournament . This type of rules should be removed from FIDE.
the world champion should decide on the circumstances and frame of allowing challengers for the match
A perfect dishonour. There is nothing to explain with the pitty rule book
Does anyone have the actual rule? This is what I found online - seems like jeans should be fine. Is this not the latest?

I think he wore it on purpose and paid the price. If he knew the rule, he should have sticked to it.
He is surely the goat of modern era chess, but he needs to recheck his morals and basic principles, bring his massive ego down.

Magnus throws a tantrum again. This could have been resolved amicably. Nevertheless, no one individual is above the sport. Rules are for everyone. A few players were already fined and warned; they all complied. The dress code were in fact instituted by the players. In general, the game of Chess will always find another super talent in the near future.
Wkwk u mean gukesh😂
You got it wrong chess player don’t need stupid Fide is the other way around Hikaru already explained what’s the problem with them but yeah let’s trust you a nobody😂😂😂
He did not throw a tantrum. He was told he would either be fined or need to change. He agreed to be fined. He was then told that he STILL needed to change, he said he'd already been fined for the day and would come in with something other than jeans the following day. He was 100% following the rules.
The question is why is even jeans not in the dress code ??!😂😂😂

FIDE needs to leave some rules in the past
I completely support Fide in this. Even in home when I play against my dog I always make sure that I wear work formals, preferably suit. And this guy Magnus is the world champion. How can he disrespect the game by ignoring the dress code 101?
So spending 30 years of your life in the game of chess is disrespecting the game?
The no jeans rule doesn't make any sense you know that. It's just like telling someone that they can only eat with a spoon.🥄
@@fivescoopThey all agreed to dress code, have some reason before trying to defend
@@Ss..348 Dress code says no torn jeans. Have you seen somewhere that says no jeans?
There is quite simple. Magnus broke the rules, got fined and disqualified from the round. Magnus refused to be wrong (which he was) and wanted to be above the rules, then he stepped away, thats it. Magnus should not be allowed to be above the rules just because he is nr 1, Fide dis right. If the rules are stupid, then change them. But as long as they are valid they would be expected to be followed.
He wanted to expose how stupid their rules are. Strong players like Fischer, Kasparov and now Magnus have always used their power and influence to demand better rules for the chess world
Totally incorrect. He did not break the rules - they say no TORN jeans. Secondly, he doesn't refuse to be wrong, he actually agreed to pay a fine to be able to continue. That is 100% going with the rules, and even with the high-handed decision of the arbiter, when others were also wearing jeans. THEN, he was told that as well as being fined, he STILL had to go get changed. Why? No reason other than that he is a competitor to FIDE with Freestyle chess and they are playing stupid games.
Isn't free style is Fischer random
Now I suspected that Magnus is not a genius. He is in the teritory of certain powerful organization. He is very good in playing chees but in real life scenario he is not. It is not hard to change dress. He know it that there is a Rules to be follow. Rules is Rules No one is excempted.
Have you seen this rule? I cannot find it online at all. They say no torn jeans...
I dont think it's only about wearing jeans or any other dress code stuff. There must be anything else which leads to take this step. ( He is not a school boy whom you warn for interschool game)
No, as the person mentioned, it's about FIDE and Freestyle chess fighting with each other. So they want Magnus to look bad as one of the organizers of their competitor.
@jtidema Yes, I heard that FIDE is threatening to the players for participating in freestyle chess tour.
Everybody Will support Magnus Carlsen to be the World Blitz Champion again!! 👏🤘😎
Could Carlsen vie for WCC again but with a different banner? Just to piss FIDE off? Dress code less Chess organization? Will FIDE again have shallow world chess champion?

Tantrum Carlsen
Plain and simple. Carlsen wants to promote freestyle as Kasparov did PCA, and was looking for an excuse to break away from FIDE, and hence the deliberate dress code violation. Having been World Champion for 5 times, he decided to abdicate rather than defend his title, for fear of losing his crown. While stepping down is his prerogative, he has no right to call the world championship a circus, of which he was a star performer in the first place. He doesn't like to lose any game as can be evidenced when he lost Alisher Suleymenov and blamed the latter's watch for his defeat. Grow up Magnus.
Does anyone actually have a copy of the dress code that says Jeans are not acceptable? The only thing I can find lists torn jeans as an issue.
He wanted to expose how stupid their rules are. Strong players like Fischer, Kasparov and now Carlsen have always used their power and influence to demand better rules for the chess world.
These strong players never found anything stupid when they were became great playing under FIDE auspices. Once they become goats rules are stupid suddenly.

Where? I do not see any rule that says no jeans. Have you looked?
Magnus did this on purpose. He knew the rules, and he was losing.
He'd rather break the rules, than the shame of losing
Magnus can loss but he would still remain the best player in the world in spite of that.
Can you locate this rule? I see nothing in the dress code about not wearing jeans...
Magnus Carlsen is the greatest of our era, but lately, he's been acting like a spoiled child. He doesn't seem to care about the rules or about his opponent. He even quit the championship match, which was wrong. He should be punished for his bad behavior.
Kickin somebody out for jeans is idiotic
