Great comment. I have read time and time again that some children from huge stars have struggled with the expectations associated from their parents fame.
It is hard for me to separate the Entertainer/Singer/Actor and the Person. On one hand, one of the top Entertainers/Singers/Actors of all time, but didn't treat his family right. His songs helped many people during the Depression and WW2 which cannot be overlooked and he must get credit for that, but this other side of him bugs me still. Maybe it shouldn't bug me because this is how life is, you did well and not so well. No one is perfect, especially a guy who plays other characters or sings on stage and made a lot of money, he was human just like me. I should let it go and go about my business.
honestly, thinking about it myself for a bit and pulling from my own experiences with my family, I think it may have been something like this... Bing obviously was obviously a genuine persion by accounts of his friends. He cared very strongly about his friends, he cared very strongly about the soldiers who went to fight the Nazis. He wanted to spread good will, love and kindness to the whole world... and that was genuine, he did that... But I imagine when it comes to the people who are absolutely closest to you, its a bit harder... Maybe on one hand he doesn't want to treat his kids like the way he is in public because he didn't want to come off as fake... Gary would talk about how they would go on an hour or so drive to the studio, and bing wouldn't say anything... and as soon as they got to the studio, he was suddenly the person everyone knew and loved... I imagine its just hard to know what to say to those who depend on you most. Its also just them being around during the time he previously had to himself, so they more or less probably just see the unwinding process, which seemed cold and distant... but as Phil said... Bing absolutely loved every single one of them with all of his heart...
@@boomznbladez405 , too bad Bing didn't take the people most close to him to be the most important thing, but many of these oldtimers were raised in environments that didn't condone showing of love and patience. You didn't sit down with your kid to just talk to them. This water under bridge now anyway, we all should hope to do better.
Two boys committed suicide.I think they were twins. Gary looked just like his dad and appeared in at least one Elvis movie but never got a real break. The destruction of the family was a he said, he said. Bing was more of a family man with his second family. He's buried next to his first wife.
One twin Dennis and youngest Linny were the ones who committed suicide, very little to do with their father but rather life choices and complications. All four boys were gorgeous and Bing and Dixie adored them. Gary had numerous opportunities provided for him but for whatever reason he never had a huge career, pity he was awesome. Only the one son wrote negatively, and whilst the other three admitted Bing's flaws, they mainly defended their father. Bing was semi retired when his second family arrived and he was able to give them a lot more of his time and attention, a thing he regretted about his four boys. Complicated family but a great family.
@Sunshine Baker i used to believe GARY. BUT WHEN PHILL SAID HIS FATHER GAVE THEM EVERY THING HE NEVER HIT THEM AS GARY DESCRIBED. BUT NEEDED MONEY MADE UP LIES. TO PROMOTE BOOK. CROSBY THE DAD EVEN ADMITTED HE WAS STRICT BUT GAVE THEM ALL OPERTUNITIES. THEY HAD MANY BUT PLANS WENT SOUR. OR SCREWED UP MARRIGES. THEY PISSED ALL DOE. THEY WERNT CUT OFF LIKE LEWIS KIDS WERE. . ALL HAVEN NOTHEN LEAD TO FEAR EMPTYNESS WHICH BRINGS ON SUCIDE. I CAN NOT JUDGE MAN KNOWEN WHAT I HERD FROM LAST BROTHER. REMORSE LOVE WILL FORGIVE ALL THEM TO EACH OTHER WHEN THEY HAVE LIFE REVIEW EVEN SUCIDES. THEY HAVE TO REMORSE FEEL HOPE SO FREQUENCY CAN GO UP HIGHER RALM OF HEAVEN. I KNOW FEELIN OF BEING BROKE CAN LEAD TO SUCIDE CAUSE THEY HAD OPERTUNITY AND FEAR MAKES YOU THINK. YOU CANT. SERVIVE. FEELIN OF LOSS CAUSE SUCIDES NOT BING HIMSELF. HE GAVE THEM OPERTUNITIES. THAT AVERGE CHILD COULDNT GET.
@Sunshine Baker The money factor first. The boys received substantial trust fund money at 21. Cheques from investments made from money from both parents provided regular income to all 4 boys long after Bing had passed. So the boys had cars, homes, jobs, etc.. provided for them by their father. They were paid for their tv appearances and ranch work from what I've read. If 6 out of 7 children make defensive comments about their father, whilst admitting his faults and the one son who wrote the book later admits in 9 hours of taped interviews that he couldn't remember writing certain things because he was drunk at the time, I would think that the truth was probably somewhere in the middle. His first wife the beautiful dixie was apparently extremely shy and insecure, and it has been noted that her drinking problems began because of this. She didn't like being in the entertainment sector and was reluctant to appear even at functions etc with Bing. He gave up hard drinking for her, but she began a struggle that Bing and others tried to get her help with. A great lady who needed more attention than Bing provided, but who remained loyal, loving and honest. She should be remembered for the talent and beauty she was and not for her problems. Gary the eldest even acknowledged he could feel the unspoken love from his father and he made comments both to his stepsister, his ex wife etc that what was in the book wasn't really the way it went down and it wasn't the same book he wrote. Linny and Phil wrote lovely comments about their father, without sugar coating his faults. Even Bing acknowledged his faults and regrets about his sons. But the boys were no angels either and some of the stories I've read are eye opening. They were human, they were flawed but they were all talented, gorgeous people. From reading about them they were all kind, generous and good people, who made mistakes.
Michael L. Edmonds No he didn't beat them. They had drinking problems and wrote a false rendition of their life. Gary, admitted the book was not true. Another brother did also. They had attempted another mommy dearest , only father dearest. ( There was a clip from one of these shows where its quite obvious the sons had hit the sauce.) If Bing had been the abuser the book claimed to make money, most likely his second marriage to Kathryn, would have been a failure.. They sadly died early from substance abuse problems . No brain can escape the effects of heavy booze, or the body. It is very sad. They had beautiful voices.
You need to read up about the money the boys had already received and were still receiving long after Bing's passing. He didn't disinherit they were to receive their will money at 65, and not out of any meanness but so that the money wouldn't be squandered. The boys had problems but were all good kind people as were their parents Bing and DIxie. Bing worked with and assisted his boys, that he would be jealous of their talents is quite simply a ridiculous statement.
apparently he didn't think he had a good relationship with their father, and Phil took it personally at some point. Gary wrote a book after Bing died talkin about how he was abused and hating going to the studio with his family... Phil was extremely against that accusation, and their relationship never mended. the other siblings have more or less refused to take sides or comment... only adding that sometimes bing may have been too harsh sometimes, but Phil maintains noone got what they didn't deserve. but obviously there we some issues with the relationship between gary and the rest.

@@mitzymoo3151 Dennis and Lindsay never said Gary's book wasn't true. Phillip (who was intensely disliked by his brothers and their families) was the only one who denied it. He acted like he wad Bing's favorite, but actually Lindsay was. A parent showing favoritism is a sign of toxicity.
Two of the three committed suicide soon after this performance. Life with dad was traumatic it is said.
Their biggest problem was their surname. It destroyed them.
Great comment. I have read time and time again that some children from huge stars have struggled with the expectations associated from their parents fame.
The only reason they're up there is because they are the sons of Bing Crosby.
right! Osmonds worked for it.
It might also be that they were gorgeous and talented as well. Gary was also fabulous.
so what ? Maybe it was "take your sons to work day."

@@boomznbladez405 Great comment. Impressive.
Good Lord, nepotism on display big time some say.
Lost talent!
Poor boys were cursed w/ ski slope foreheads.
@@mitzymoo3151 I remember that Gary wrote a book and said terrible things about his dad. His brothers came to the defense of their dad.
@@mitzymoo3151 bing abused all of his first sons.
They work well together but off camera it was a different story apparently. Several of his sons committed suicide.
Annoying song!
yes, a very annoying song. Bing must have chosen the piece.
My dad was a better, very much better bricklayer than I ever was. These guys are good but. Get a job on your own.
That evil man , Bing was jealous instead of proud of their talent . Beat them , cut them off without inheritance.
Over confident and over fed.
Where was Gary?
estranged
apparently he didn't think he had a good relationship with their father, and Phil took it personally at some point.
He must have gotten tired of taking a buh buh buh beating from the ol man...
@@mcgannahanskyjellyfetti6854 you say that like you were there...
Thing is gary was the only one who accused bing of being abusive, and he took thise accusations back before he died...
@@boomznbladez405 I hope the stories of Bing being abusive were false. He went on for decades slandering the ol man. Then suddenly on his death bed in the mid nineties decades after Bing died, he retracts his comments practically while on his own death bed. There obviously was some banter between the two of them...
