@@CarlosDelgado-co1bi I can't speak for this pedal individually, but in my experience with pedals, batteries last about 10 minutes. You are better off with an AC adapter.
@@GuitarMAXMusic another great choice for $80 more is the Boss GT1 which can also run on 4AA batteries and has more foot switches/buttons , love to see you review one
Thanks Max! I've been playing acoustic and bass since 1964 but I just bought my first electric- an Epi 335. Having also recently purchased a Taylor 314, I'm kinda tapped out for coin for awhile. I looked at the Boss multi effects units. Ive always been happy with Boss stuff but I just didn't want to spend three to four hundred bucks just now. This unit is my perfect solution and I never would have found it without you. You rock! Keep 'em coming!
My first multi-effects unit was a Zoom 505II. It was a great little unit and it served me well at the beginning of my guitar journey. Now I use two Line 6 multi-effects units (Pod x3 Live, Pod Hd400), a Zoom 9.2t, a bunch of looping pedals and I recently bought a Donner Arena 2000, which I got at a great price. With this setup I can cover basically everything.
The unit actually sounds pretty good. I’ve been a guitarist for 44 years and have had dozens of stomp boxes on various pedal boards. I’ve had several multi-effectors…Boss/Roland, Line6, Digitech, etc. Your demo here Max makes it seem like the amp sim sound quality is as good, if not better than the best of the other multi effects units I’ve owned. That Nux unit really kicks some serious Sonic ass. I’m swamped with bills right now, but when I can, I’m buying one of these. I’m disabled now and my rig is really simple and easy to load in and out. This Nux unit will make it even simpler. If the battery option lasts longer than a New York minute, I’ll run it on Lithium rechargeable AA batteries and that’ll be icing on the cake for me. Thank you for bringing this to my (and every viewer of this Guitar Max viewers’) attention.
I remember getting a Zoom multi effects pedal in the late 90's. It was $30 more expensive in the 90's and had less features. The expression pedal and AC adapter were sold separately. To get a pedal like this at this price is pretty crazy. It's hard to find a good single effect pedal for under $100 where I live.
Been using the Nux MG100 pedal for close to a couple years now and love it. Really dont see a reason to upgrade to this one but cool to see they have a new one out there.
Got one on FB Marketplace for $75. Been playing 10+ years and I have no regrets. This thing is LOADED. Main thing I don't like is the pedal, it feels stiff/plasticky instead of springy/smooth. But sounds great, easy to learn, and very convenient!
It looks nice. I'd consider buying it, but getting it delivered to Bulgaria will cost me nearly 200 euros, which kinda defeats the purpose. I hope they'll sell it on Thomann, because that way I'll be able to get it. I already have a NUX MG-300. It is absolutely awesome. It looks very similar to this.
Just got the Kmf-1 off Amazon for $79 on sale. I have nothing but large tube amps so I needed something with good tones and a headphone jack. These pedals are what top tier shelf pedals were in the early 2010's.
the Zoom G1X-Four is the same price and also has an expression pedal and runs on batteries, and it only runs on 4 AA batteries, not 6. I have the G1XOn, the previous version, and it's really good, and the G1X-Four is even better, with more amps and more true to life settings for those amps. There is also the G1-Four, which doesn't have the expression pedal, for $99. The biggest advantage this NuX unit has is that it has 4 amps the Zoom doesn't have - the SLO-100 drive channel, the Dr. Z, the Diezel VH4, and the BE100 HBE channel. Meanwhile, the Zoom has an OR120 but with Rockerverb controls and a presence knob, two Mark series amps instead of just one, the drive channel of a Diezel Herbert, a Matchless DC-30, the included IR's have two mics to blend between along with a hi and lo shelf EQ (sadly my G1XOn doesn't have this feature, and the G1[X]-Four has a separate cab block, while the cab on the G1XOn has the cab as a parameter you can change or turn off on the amp settings page), and tbh they have more drive pedals and other effects available than the NuX, though the NuX has some things the Zoom doesn't and vice versa across the board. The Zoom lacks the ability to use as an audio interface, or the live streaming features, for example. It's very much a trade off based on your preferences and which one you think sounds better, or which features you need. Personally, I like the sound of the IR loading algorithm on the Zoom, as the NuX makes all the IR's sound a little too top end fizzy, and anemic on the low end. Also, the built-in cabs on the Zoom actually sound better IMO. Sadly, the Zoom doesn't allow you to load your own IR's, so you'd need a third party IR loader for that - this is how I use my G1XOn if I'm not just using the built-in cab sounds. There are several channels that compare the G1On/G1XOn/G1-Four/G1X-Four to the NuX MG-300 or MG-400, both of which are higher end units, and I find this to be the case every time. Finally, the Zoom has a TRS stereo output, and with a breakout/insert cable, you can run one output to an amp and another to a separate IR loader, or with an adapter it can be used as the headphone jack, and you can also choose the voicing and impedance of the outs for plugging into other pedals or an amp, for plugging into an audio interface, or into line level PA's or rack gear. That said, if you're just using it to run into a power amp and into your own cab, or into a third party IR loader, they both sound REALLY good.
Those amps might be available in the software. The program for PC allows you to swap out the effects & amps. I ended up taking a few I knew I wouldn't use off & adding some others. Might be worth checking.
I have a zoom G3XN. Sounds great and has a metal housing, that's a plus to me. And while it only has 16 amps, 12 cabinets, and a black and white screen, I think I prefer the amp sounds of the Zoom
@@louaguado995 even then, I agree that the "cheaper" brands like Zoom, Mooer, Flamma, and Valeton just sound so much better than a lot of the more expensive brands, especially going into a power amp and cab, until you get well into the $1000 and up range. The only expensive brand that actually sounds good is the lower end Helix stuff, and aside from the POD Express, it's all overpriced. Axe FX and Headrush Prime and Quad Cortex are great and all, but Zoom and Valeton sound almost as good. Now, units like the Line 6 POD Express, Boss IR-2, etc are absolutely really good for the price, but those do not have the same target market as bigger floor board units, and compete more directly with Zoom and Flamma's (and other brands) multi effect/multi preamp stomp boxes... Which the Zoom and Flamma ones are better cost/value than the others. Even M-VAVE makes units that have no business sounding as good as they do.
Thanks MAX, this thing sounds great, however regarding the different volume levels regarding the patches, I don't like that at all, you think they would have fixed that problem and known better. Anyways great video as usual that you always put together. Cheers.............And Keep Rocking!
I can definitely vouch for how useful this type of multi effects unit is for beginning electric guitar players, having owned or borrowed two different ones built by Zoom and one from Digitech. I’m also familiar with the NU X brand after having been persuaded by a Rich Bischoff review to get the Plexi Crunch stomp pedal. It isn’t difficult for me to relate to the pitfalls regarding poorly-patched volume levels, after having had the Rockman X100 and been disappointed that the clean channels were louder than the distorted ones.
The RP 2000 has the best tone of any board I've ever tried. I guess it's just personal preference, but I try others from all manufacturers, but always stick with the 2000.
That EXTREME volume change from one patch to another has been an on going thing in multi effects units for a LOOOONG time. There's really no excuse for that.
I love my Valeton GO 200 through my Headrush 1x12 FRFR …..2 x price but the features are with the price and I have the NUX mighty space Amp which can be controlled by phone App too @249$ and is rechargeable for busking
Great review - thanks Max. But I'm looking for a pedal that I can connect directly to an amp, not to my Mac. How does the NU-X MG-101 sound when using it that way? Regards, Dave
I'm an "old school" multi-efffects player. My first one was a zoom 505 back in the 90's, also used a few Digitech one's too. The problem with them is the same thing I see with this one, they're made of plastic!
I've used many budget multi-efffects pedals by Boss, Digitech, Line 6, Vox, Zoom, and Mooer. They all have the same problem with the stock presets, volume levels all over the place, and too much treble 😏 Good starting points but they always need adjusting for the pickups and amp you're using.
I've found the volume fluctuations on this pedal are the same on other multi effects amp modeling pedals. I've used budget ones by Line 6, Vox, Zoom, Mooer, and Digitech, they all had crazy volume levels all over the volume spectrum. I have a feeling that most of these manufacturers aren't gigging musicians, they're probably just sound engineers
Have that Volume Problem on my Harley Benton DNAFx and on my Mooer GE-150(guess that is the number) and they are both about 150 Bucks. Interesting is the point that my Boss GX100 has none of those issues at all or at least not that disturbing like both of the mentioned.Thx for your really cool content😊🤘

This one reminds me of the Zoom G1X Four being all plastic, but the NUX has a color screen vs the Zooms black and white screen. I've been using multi effects pedals for the past 20 years, they've gotten so much better than the old Digitech ones I started out on. You should try the Mooer ge150, it has 55 amp models, the bottom is also plastic but the top is brushed aluminum, better able to take more bumps.
I’ve got the nux mg 300. And yeah for the $. Great sounds just wish it was. Battery powered like this one is …more than likely picking this one up 🤙👍🏻.. great content. Max
as for the volume of the patches I have the same issue with Spark Amp 40 (original recipe) particularly ones from the Tone Cloud, I am wondering if people aren't just doing it on purpose?
Wow. And a price a few bucks less than the Sonicake QME-50, This NU-X MG-101 looks like it has a larger/better display. (good news for an old gut me) Cool thanks Max. Off subject but ..Is that a P 38 Lightning over your right shoulder?
I kinda remember the same thing with my zoom g3 with the patch volumes. I just hooked up the usb, played around and leveled all my stuff in a couple minutes. I can do it on the actual unit pretty easy too but on pc is just so much easier lol click the vol knob and save thats it
I’m not sure what is up with that Puppets Dist but it really sounds terrible, I understand that this is an affordable processor but is there any way to edit the sound ? It sounds like the treble is wide open and puts out a very thin sound. That Deluxe reverb sound was Awesome but the distortion is definitely lacking.
Can you save the patches? is so you adjust the volume and save then you patches would be level. If you cant edit and save is definitely a deal breaker. thanks for the great review!
With regard to the volume issues between each sample, when you edit them, is that edit permanent then? I mean, can this be fixed with a one time afternoon session to get all the volumes leveled?
Thanks for the nice review. Can the USB C be used to power the unit via a battery bank? Also, will it be powered on when I connect the unit via the USB to my laptop or I will need to use the power adapter as well?
The whole philosophy of this pedal board reminds me the Zoom G1X four but i can't find how many seconds is the looper and i can't find info about the drum machine. Here in Greece it costs €99.00.
Hi I have just got one og these. But I need to know how to actually use it How to turn it on and chose an effect, There are so many buttons and knobs on it, and the manual does not tell what they all do. I especially want to use the drum machine and the loop
Just one question , after you adjust the volumes of the different effects ,is the adjustment permanent or do you have to adjust them every time to turn it back on?
Did you test this with an acoustic guitar? I have both alectric and acoustic guitar and currently looking for an affordable multi fx that can be used with either of them
Im not much of a metalhead, but i liked the tones of the Bassman, Friedman, and the JCM 800 Marshall. Great rock tones with out going over the top. And cool Firefly Classic thats been reliced. Have you done a review on this guitar?
Weird. I’ve been scouring videos for cheap multi effect pedals with foot expression… all give the same details. All I want to know right off the bat. Is can that expression pedal do Jack White and Tom Morello pitch shifts??? All multi effect pedals have the options for volume and wah for their expression foot controller, but not all can do the pitch shift.. Ooo and also modulation adjusting with the foot expression. I’m hoping all multi effect pedals will have all the above in the future. I’m way beyond how close amp modeling can be. It’s all about fun factor. To have volume, wah, pitch shift and modulation controlled via the foot rocker will just…. ROCK.
Didn't hear you mention anything about it, but was wondering if you can record both the modeled sound as well as a DI sound when using it for recording. Obviously you could always get a DI box or something, but would be nice if the unit just had that as a feature.
Never heard of this, but I’m curious now. I hope Max will check it out and compare the Ibanez PUE 5 to this NUX being that they’re around the same price point.
A major sticking point with NUX is their garbage drivers for recording, as is the case with most Chinese hardware. How does it perform with Windows 10, 11 for USB connection, recording, and usability?
Looks like an MG300 in a different package. Same outputs, two pedal buttons, 4 knobs, and a screen. By the way NUX drivers suck with WIN10 and are unusable with the MG300. I had to buy an interface to record with it. Tones are great, drivers suck.
I'm sure that's a good Modeler. Problems is, and keep in mind, I respect U as a guitar player and bought your course. Your Distortion Amp Settings are Terrible. There is a high end Sizzle, that just hurts my ears as a recording artist. I use 2 cheap preamp pedals, a Donner Force2 Soldano Slo100 clone, and a Flamma Fs06, which has 7 different amps. None of my settings have any High end Sizzle on them. I don't know what Ur doing wrong, maybe u don't have Studio Monitors to listen to the sound. Maybe U push Treble past 6.5. Less treble is better. On my Soldano SLO 100 clone pedal, my treble is at about 4.
I've noticed that about a lot of players, they really push the high/treble frequencies making everything sound harsh. It may sound good in a mix with a bass player, but alone it's like nails on a chalkboard. It may also be that as we loose our hearing we loose the ability to hear high frequencies, so many musicians, that are literally going deaf, will boost the treble because they don't hear it like players without damaged hearing does
@louaguado995 you nailed it on the head. I'm 51yrs old, playing LOUD guitar since a kid, band practice/gigs & loud working environment for 35yrs. I've had several people tell me certain frequencies are just rediculous in my mix. Can't help but laugh, even though it sucks...
Watching this I couldn't help but finish each of your sentences with "Like the Boss GT-1". -Turns on when you plug it in Like the Boss GT-1 -Runs on batteries Like the Boss GT-1 -Has a built in expression pedal Like the Boss GT-1 -Has a headphone port Like the Boss GT-1 etc etc etc It has a drum machine? Otherwise, it's a clone of the Boss GT-1
Are you able to change the volume on each patch and then save it so that way you don't have to adjust the volume every time? I think you sold me on that Firefly! ✌🏻
You know, beginners start out with a huge disadvantage called budget and beginner electric guitar. The thing is beginner guitars come with budget pickups. And those pickup do not drive these amps or amp modelers to operate in overdrive or tube saturation mode. That is what makes the guitar sound good. So beginners are really best positioned to quit playing because they can't get the tones they heard on TH-cam.
I don't think that's true at all. Cheaper pickups can be more prone to feedback, but tone wise, it's a very small difference. It's so easy to get a good sound these days, if someone quits because of that, they will quit for anything.
@@GuitarMAXMusic With all due respect, my cheaper means different than your cheaper. With that said, cheaper pickups can pickup the signals. But the signals are not strong enough and with enough tone to make those multi effects sound right. Granted I'm no tone king, but I discovered the difference at the guitar center one day playing on at least two tier above electric guitar and noticed the pickups can make the difference between hearing the tone properly. I understand we all hear things with some bias. But I speak the "you can't handle the truth."
I’m learning guitar with Positive Grid’s Spark Go - i have it pernamently attached to my guitar so I get to pick it up anytime anywhere. Would this pedal offer a distinct advantage to add to this minimal setup, or is perhaps even better alternative as standalone?
Just the record to phone feature seems awesome? Spark Go really struggles with capturing anything that is not microphone based, which invades acoustic privacy 😂
On the Nux MG 101 -when i go in to edit for a consistent volume level between patches, will that be permanent, so that the problem is solved for good, or does that editing have to be repeated?
The biggest problem i hear/see with these demos is playing too much on one voice/setting before moving to the next one. I know how you play, give me one or two licks/chords and then move on, showing more settings/voices that way.
I just can't find any info on the battery powered feature...
Yeah, kind of a big oversight that it's not included anywhere, but you can run it on 6 AA batteries in that back compartment.

This NU-X MG-101 looks like it has a larger/better display.
(good news for an old gut me) Cool thanks Max.
Off subject but ..Is that a P 38 Lightning over your right shoulder?
I have a Zoom G1X & it has the same problem with patch volume. Similar unit sans the color screen.
Hey Max.. If they use AA.bats... make sure they try nicad not alkaline. If alkaline leek that unit is toast.
Can you save the patches? is so you adjust the volume and save then you patches would be level. If you cant edit and save is definitely a deal breaker. thanks for the great review!
Yes you can!
What do you recommend this NUX or the VOX stompLab 2G they are about the same price. I was looking to purchase the VOX. Thanks
Always rocking the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers song in the beginning.
With regard to the volume issues between each sample, when you edit them, is that edit permanent then? I mean, can this be fixed with a one time afternoon session to get all the volumes leveled?
Yes, you could go through and edit them, and save them, then the problem is fixed!
Soooo is that unit a step up from the pos grid package? It obviously does more but still 🤷 same but different 😆
Max that effects peddle is pretty awesome. Thank you for presenting the item.
You're very welcome.
Hi I have just got one og these.
But I need to know how to actually use it
How to turn it on and chose an effect,
There are so many buttons and knobs on it, and the manual does not tell what they all do.
I especially want to use the drum machine and the loop
hey Max! Please do a demo on the Blackbox by Mvave or Silverbox Donner etc
ok that is better than mine! I love battery power
Its like a tiny Boss GT6! Whhch took me years to master.
Just one question , after you adjust the volumes of the different effects ,is the adjustment permanent or do you have to adjust them every time to turn it back on?
You can save so the changes so it's permanent!
Ibanez PUE 5. $149.00 Best in the industry.
Never heard of this, but I’m curious now. I hope Max will check it out and compare the Ibanez PUE 5 to this NUX being that they’re around the same price point.
Czy się nadaje to urządzenie do elektro akustyka
would love to see how well the looper works. That's what I do...live looping.
A major sticking point with NUX is their garbage drivers for recording, as is the case with most Chinese hardware. How does it perform with Windows 10, 11 for USB connection, recording, and usability?
can stack same effects?
This model is made in Japan?
th3 flame doesnt qute match up on the two sides of his lp top
Looks like an MG300 in a different package. Same outputs, two pedal buttons, 4 knobs, and a screen. By the way NUX drivers suck with WIN10 and are unusable with the MG300. I had to buy an interface to record with it. Tones are great, drivers suck.
How does this compare to say a Boss GT-5?
Its so hard to keep up with all the latest innovations...
it sounds better than mg 300?
I like it but it is seriously faulty, the batteries don’t work, it goes on and off randomly, the cable into Iphone feature doesn’t work smoothly
Watching this I couldn't help but finish each of your sentences with "Like the Boss GT-1".
-Turns on when you plug it in Like the Boss GT-1
-Runs on batteries Like the Boss GT-1
-Has a built in expression pedal Like the Boss GT-1
-Has a headphone port Like the Boss GT-1
etc
etc
etc
It has a drum machine? Otherwise, it's a clone of the Boss GT-1
It's about 40% less expensive than the GT-1!
@@GuitarMAXMusic No doubt! It's a cheaper clone of the GT-1.
Only 2 foot switches. The GT1 has 3.
@@gilbertotoledo1421 Yeah the ability to be expanded. As I implied, it's a cheaper knock-off. Everyone is amazed for some reason.
Boss no color Screen, no IR loader. Nux definitely a smarter choice.
“Puppets Dist” lol
That's a cool little unit.
That's what she said!
Are you able to change the volume on each patch and then save it so that way you don't have to adjust the volume every time?
I think you sold me on that Firefly! ✌🏻
Yes, you can save the changes.
Mg300 also awesome and cheap.. 😂👀🍻👍😎
❤❤❤
Yes you can save the edited changes, so you just have to do it once.
Find it so ridiculous all these negative commenters complaining about $120 multi effect pedal. 😅 i mean dudes, get real.
The cleans sounds good. But the dirty channel still has a wierd sound to it.
It emulates a Deisel 4? THat pedal alone is 400 bucks or so.
Man that’s a cheap unit, good job trying to make it look not so bad. lol
My Boss GT-100 is the same way. You have to go in and adjust the volume and save it. It is annoying!
The biggest problem i hear/see with these demos is playing too much on one voice/setting before moving to the next one. I know how you play, give me one or two licks/chords and then move on, showing more settings/voices that way.
The deal breaker is no stereo out.
You could use the headphone jack for stereo out, and then adjust the "global output" section depending on what you're pluggin in to!
Now it's almost $200 after shipping and tax. Insane how fast they raise the prices.
I'll see if I can find another link that's less expensive!
Okay, I changed the link. For now at least, it's 119 with free shipping.
it would be more wise to spend in a guitar amp head
Chop that expression pedal off and I will buy it.
Why you no like exp pedal?
Get thee behind me Satan......and push! Lol. 😅 Shalom/gw
please dont buy this crap.
