      Loved that guitar, and was a direct influence on this, someday I’d love to get a Ken Lawrence Explorer similar to James’s. That Jools Holland one was so nice, the one he’s been using with the sun inlay just isn’t the same.

    Your Explorer looks beautiful, very nice finish. I'm in the process of building one myself and I have no idea what I am doing as I have never built a guitar before. So far I have spray painted the body a flat white colour. I want my Explorer to look like one of James Hetfield's guitars from the 80's. Whilst I have an art channel here on TH-cam in my latest painting video I show my audience that I am working on building this guitar in the introduction. Hopefully my guitar will look as nice as your does when it is finished.

    • @GhostDragon1182
      @GhostDragon1182  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the kind words, it can be a process, but it's worth it in the end.
      If I can do it, anybody can do it, dead serious, I don't have a consistent work space or dedicated painting area, and at the mercy of whatever the weather is doing. The painting part just requires patience and time. I spray painted a black one of these and it worked out well. Depending on what your weather is like can lengthen or shorten your process, but you got this, and it'll be killer when you're done. I'll have to check out your videos, art is another of my passion hobbies but I'm a sketcher, I never was able to get good with paints.

    Seems really nice! Do you know if you can order one without the 3 holes for the pots and switch?

    • @GhostDragon1182
      @GhostDragon1182  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly, there are sites out there where you can customize the kit. Guitarkitworld.com I think let’s you customize the control layout. All the standard kits I’ve seen on the internet are either like this or your more traditional Explorer layout with the pickguard and stuff.

    Are the pickups active or passive, if active, how did you install the battery housing?

    • @GhostDragon1182
      @GhostDragon1182  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Active, I just put the battery in the control cavity, it's snug, but with good wire placement it fits.

    • @austinlee3730
      @austinlee3730 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks man, I’m planning on gettin this kit and Im gonna get some EMG 81/85 pickups, and noticed in the photos that the kit had no place for a battery housing and I was kinda worried about where I was gonna put the battery lol

    • @GhostDragon1182
      @GhostDragon1182  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@austinlee3730 it is probably more ideal to route for a battery box, but I've done 2 of these Explorer kits and fit 2 pots, the bus cube, battery and 3 way switch in the control cavity. It may work better with the EMG 3 way switch to eliminate the bus cube, but I didn't have any here at the time. Use the short shaft pots. Good luck with your kit, enjoy it.

    What size tusq nut did you need

    • @GhostDragon1182
      @GhostDragon1182  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I used a 44mm nut. It’s been awhile so I can’t remember exactly. The string spacing will be fine but you’ll have to sand the excess material off the sides and bottom.

    Did you have to ground the bridge yourself?

    • @GhostDragon1182
      @GhostDragon1182  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I installed active pickups so no ground required, but if you use passive you will need to run a ground wire, the appropriate holes are pre drilled in these particular kits though.

    I just got a leo jaymz ml style diy kit, and I love it, I had to dramatically adjust the trust rod bc the strings were just laying on the fretboard but otherwise when I got that fixed it was perfect, stained it blue and just got it cleared.
