Absolutely! The best concert I have seen living for 23 years in Alaska! I realize it’s not much but it was on a tiny outdoor stage outside of a popular beer pub (Moose’s Tooth) and just perfect. I still have the tie-dye T-shirt I got from that show but it is completely full of holes because I think it’s from 2007
Thank You! Found your channel awhile back when you checked out a song from 'my' generation. (Female/white/68yrs) I so liked the way you appreciated and understood, the lyrics, the beat, every instrument, and how the song was compiled that I was hooked. Now you are educating me on the value of other genre's. I see them in a whole new light. Again, THANKS!
They are also known for doing epic covers. Their version of “ I Will Survive “ is inspired. Also they do a nice homage to Black Sabbath’s “ War Pigs “. Cake are a fun band live.
Their "Guitar Man" is great too. Their cover of "Ruby, don't take you love to town" is a brilliant satire of one of the dumbest songs ever made (Kenny Rogers).
Such a great tune. I would highly, SO highly suggest that you listen to Cake's cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". If you've never heard the song then I also highly suggest listening to her(original) version of it first. I know you will love them both. Thanks for this reaction!😃
Cool song, unique band! They incorporate a wide range of genres into their music with sarcastic lyrics and deadpan monotone vocals. Next, check out their rendition of 1967 Mel Tillis’s “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town.” ✌️
Lyrically, this song to me is about a workaholic business type, busting his butt to be at the top of his game. Sacrificing everything else, including his marriage, to earn that next promotion.
the instrument at 2:49 is a HoHner brand diamonica from the 60s and 70s, produced in Germany. one identical to the one in the video can be purchased for between $62-90 USD.
Cake have a sound that is unlike anyone else. It's not an exaggeration to say that absolutely NO ONE sounds even remotely like this band. They have a unique style that mixes such different genres as rock, jazz, funk, country, folk, latin music, all this sung by a white guy attempting to rap. They're completely unique. And that's without mentioning how talented they are. They always have FANTASTIC bass, very upbeat and funky. Another of their trademark is the use of horns in their songs. Fashion Nugget, from where this song comes from, is their undisputed best album but the others are good too. Cake is one of those bands that while not all their albums are A material, they don't have one single bad album. They just don't. Prolonging the Magic and Comfort Eagle (for me their second best album) are also warmly suggested a listen or two (or three or four for that matter).
I just kinda always considered Cake to be a bit of a novelty band. They had their lane, they maximized it…but I don’t recall anyone really ready to argue for Cake.
You didn't grow up where I did then. Where I was raised in southern California Cake were huge, radio played like 8 or 9 songs of theirs on regular rotation.
You really can’t go wrong with this band. I have most of their albums and they are entertaining AF. I got to see them live once and it was so much fun! Both covers in originals. There’s no one like them. If you are intrigued by interesting instruments, please check out the Hooters. The band not the “restaurant”
Love Cake! All their songs are fun. here are two more of my favorites, you might consider for more reactions. The video for "Short Skirt Long Jacket" is a great fun song with a little pop culture mixed in. i'm sure anyone here in my age group could probably tell you what this great 60s TV series was. Thanks for another great reaction, JM! ✌💙✌ Short Skirt Long Jacket -- th-cam.com/video/idtYckLIZnI/w-d-xo.html Never There -- th-cam.com/video/FRZzUh9hcTo/w-d-xo.html
Leaving the woman behind for the corperate grind. Sombody else got the promotions, but this guy is still grinding away…. Having lost both the promotion AND the girl
This band is one of the quirkiest and best bands I've ever heard. They are from my hometown of Sacramento, California

@@beadybaby some of the best concerts I've seen have been small intimate concerts. I've seen cake live also and they are great live.
They're so underrated. It's insane.
@@beadybaby I just seen them in Northern California and it was awesome. They went past time and had to skip a song because we were having so much fun.
Those men knew how to play instruments !! Lyrics were awesome. Cake was a very great great band !!!
Great song! So fun. They have a unique sound. No Phone, Never There, and Short Skirt/Long Jacket are excellent song choices 😊
The whole album this song is from is great. Never gets old.

The instrument is called keyboard flute.
Vocal keyboard ? Yes maybe !! Melodica is the True name ..
@@williamthelast1doesn't sound like a melodica though. I'd dare say it's a G-Funk style synth that was used.

Very cool, unique band.
Great detailed reaction on one of my favorite songs from Cake 😊
I saw them in DC in the early 00s and they were an hour late 🤣 I love this band.
Pure ear awesomenes!!!

Cake is definitely different, but catchy as hell though.
Sacramento in the house!

Stakka bo: "Here we go", you would like it.
Imagine. Spending. Life without cake
I just kinda always considered Cake to be a bit of a novelty band. They had their lane, they maximized it…but I don’t recall anyone really ready to argue for Cake.
No argument here. They are just very cool
You didn't grow up where I did then. Where I was raised in southern California Cake were huge, radio played like 8 or 9 songs of theirs on regular rotation.
I'll argue for Cake. But I like music that is pretty different from what majority people listen to
They are great
Definitely unique with so many good songs
Just a few of many of them are Short skirt long jacket ,Frank Sinatra , Italian leather sofa
People keep referring to Cake in the past tense. I'm seeing them in Birmingham, AL at the end of the month? Guess they're still around.....
