@@KaraandNate You guys should get one of those portable evaporative air coolers (also known as swamp coolers) that work like air conditioners but consume less energy consumption and rely on a certain type of humidity levels in the air to function properly. I can only say one thing: "Don't ever put your feet on the dashboard when driving!!!" If you ever get into a accident and the airbag goes off you will break both your legs/knee's/feet and might end up disabled afterwards. I understand it might be comfy but slide the seat back as much as possible and slide your feet underneath the dash. ;) Have a good travel time and hope you will enjoy it!
Im so glad you commented on this.....I have been tempted to for a while now. Your tour around the US will come to a very abrupt and painful end if you dont get out of that one bad habit Kara......do a quick search on the subject, there are scores of articles that are mainly young women begging people not to do what they did because they are now dealing with crippled legs. When travelling your feet should be on the floor for safety. Seriously it may seem trite but google it.
I was hoping someone made this comment. I don't like to be critical, but it's terrifying to see folks put their feet up on the dash when the vehicle is moving. So scary. There are the scariest videos out there of injuries. Please keep yourself safe, Kara! (Love, love, love following your adventures!)
I know that several times in their previous videos many people, myself included, have made the same comment. There’s no way she could have missed all of them!!
My husband watched the last episode with me, and he was like "that seems like it would be annoying" (in reference to changing the bed to the office), and I replied "I am willing to bet my bottom dollar that it stays as a bed for the vast majority of their trip". lol
Yup LOL... And they just use lap desks... Convert to table only if they have guests... A swivel down table would make sense for easier conversion. And a small folding table and chairs to store in the back so they can set them up outside to work/sit.
So my family and I have taken trips around the U.S.A. (In summer) almost my whole life! We like to say that we are national park people because when travel we like to go to as many parks as we can (the St. Louis arch is one)! So I totally suggest buying/ordering a large national park passport (the collectors edition, because it has all of the historic sites, monuments, parks, etc. in the national park system)!! Edit: Recently Kara and Nate made an announcement about the national parks and why they will not be visiting them, so this comment is a little out of date, but I definitely recommend to anyone that if you ever get the opportunity to go to a national park, GO! These could possibly be some of the best memories of your life!😀
Wonderful Advice. I’m sure they’ll be needing many tips being VAN rookies. It’s a big change from some of the luxury places they enjoyed while traveling. They will be PROS at van life, too soon.
Yep containers or reusable zip lock bags are awesome for space saving. The zip lock bags really come into their own when you use them to store meat etc in the freezer.
Adding to this if you get containers make sure to get air tight ones (most of the time the have a button on the top you have to push to open/close) cause it will keep you food especially stuff like crackers and chips and cereal for much much longer

I did this everytime I was in Slovakia in the summer. My grandparents (who live there and who I went to visit) only got AC last year, and it only has 1 main vent, and they did this with us at least 3 times a day
Piece of advice: I lived in an old mobile home without any AC. On hot humid nights, in order to fall asleep, I would wet my arms, legs and neck with cool water, then flop down in bed on my back with a fan oscillating by me. This would keep me cool so I would drift off to sleep comfortably and fast.

Always love the behind the scenes views you provide, van life for sure looks incredible, but obviously there is so much that goes into making it work, even when you buy one that's mostly done! Glad they got the fridge fixed and can't wait til you really get on the road now!
Thank you for showing the whole process of moving into a van. This has been something I've been researching for months, but I always come across people who have already been living the van life. It's great for everyone to see what a transition into van life looks like.
Hi. I love your videos. I became hooked a few weeks ago and they are really entertaining. Please don’t ride with your feet up. If you were to get into accident, the damage to your legs would be really awful. You have the most protection with your feet on the ground.
Here's a tip! Get some large plastic bags and empty out anything that has paper boxes into the plastic bags and throw the box away. Now you have more room for your pantry!
Yes. If you're wanting to save ingredient info for future knowledge, just cut that part of box out (round the corners to prevent edge poking thru) & tuck into the bag.👍
As I'm watching this video, I'm sitting in my local Walmart's parking lot on my lunch break and I saw a sprinter van just like y'all's pull in. I'm not gonna lie, I drove around just to see if it was you... And obviously it's not, since you're not in NC. Haha :)
I work at a Walmart in Washington, I'll freak if they show up lol. (Shout out store #2325 that's still kinda recovering from that dang tornado a year and a half ago)
Since you're driving so much now get some RainX windshield wipers. They help so much in the rain and coat the windshield with water repellent. I tried them 6 months ago and never plan to go back to regular wiper blades. I love watching your adventures. Stay safe and have fun!
Hi guys, love your videos. In this one I noticed your van needs new windshield wipers blades, I recommend you stop at your preferred auto shop and buy Rain X new blades. Also fill your windshield washer with Rain X Bug and tar remover. You will love the difference a clean glass makes especially on a torrential downpour. Keep the videos coming, also try getting an annual membership to the National Parks, you won't regret it.
Hurry, get to Yosemite and Glacier. This is a once in a lifetime to experience some of the world most beautiful and majestic places without any crowd and pristine wildlife.
Grab some wipers for your van when you can, they definitely need to be replaced. Also you can go to one of the RV stores and pick up a proper tool set for common issues... Expect to have to fix/tighten down at least one thing after every trip... Hope for the best, Plan for the worst! Good start gang!
Thank you Kara and Nate for being so positve in these tough times, you inspire me to travel the world when i am older. I may only be 13 but i still wish to save my every penny to travel. I been watching since febuary 2019. ily 💕
Did you know, the St. Louis arch is just as tall as it is wide... If you're ever in St. Louis, you have to eat at Fast Eddie's! Just pull over & ask the first local you see. They probably won't even rob you, if mention you're lookin for Fast Eddie's. They will tell you eather way! its a huge bar with a small open kitchen, that only serves like 6 items non stop. It was cheep, Fast, delicious, but packed! You might find a seat or a ledge to eat & enjoy the live band most weekends. But I haven't been sense before, the "C" word.
Make sure you are doing daily checks on your van, oil, water and tyres before setting off. You look like you need a new set of wipers. Make sure you carry some basics like oil, alternator belt and spare fuel. I also highly reccomend carrying some basic items like zip ties, gaffa tape, self tapping screws etc. Then a small emergecy kit with things like first aid, glow sticks, road flares, high viz waist coat, emergecy blankets etc. Good luck!!!
I absolutely love watching their videos. Especially during corona days. In times like this, it's important to stay positive and I think their videos help with that. ❤❤
I’m honestly excited for you guys on this new journey because not only will you be documenting memories but you’re going to catch history as well because of the pandemic . Hope your new journey goes well ❤️
2 things: 1) highly recommend watching Keep Your Daydream for supply list, like tools... no screwdriver on board makes my head hurt. 2) adding doors below your benches may be helpful so you dont have to pull cushions every time you need access. Love ya guys!!
Try cooling sheets and pillows or pillowcases.I think those will help. Also, a cooling gel pack wrapped in a kitchen towel can be placed on your sheets to help you feel cool. If you buy an a/c unit, you can plug in and take a shower at an RV park. Much more comfortable.
Love the new series, keep it up! A suggestion: given the current situation, why not aim for natural landmarks rather than urban ones? Parks, natural reserves, woods, falls, etc those are all gorgeous places and you have a ton of those wonderful earth-made architectures in the USA! Most importantly, they are always open :D (well, maybe there might be some restrictions here and there but you know, you catched my idea). Might be a good excuse for some hiking too, to burn some calories up :D
Since Everybody is being cancelled , Kara And Nate can become the new TH-camrs everybody watches and looks up to 🤗🤗💙 ugh I’m SO happy they decided to keep vlogging
Start the video, kids here the voices came running in... the littlest, “its nara and kate!” Lol close enough, he is working on it , “is it a new one, where are they? “ 🤗 family bonding and travel list building.
It's good to see the videos coming in such restricted times still. Good for the soul as Kara said in the video. Stay safe, much respect to you both from Kent England.
I'm very amazed that Kara and Nate are socially distancing and wearing masks. All the other TH-camrs and the people at 12:38 are not taking this seriously at ALL. Great job!
Thank you for stopping by Kentucky!! I love seeing people's reactions to my home. I'm sorry you couldn't experience more than a hot brown 😢. Come back soon!!
As an Australian I have to say I’m kind of horrified by the food that seems to be available for take away in the US, it looks so unhealthy. Is everything fried or smothered in cheese?? And what’s with all the polystyrene containers? We phased those out years ago.
We have been traveling fulltime for almost 3 years in the U.S. Kara’s quote is so spot on: “The U.S. will be bad on my waistline, but good for my soul.” 🙌🏾🙌🏽 Glad to see you had a good time in my hometown, StL.
Reading this in 2021. I live in Lexington and the Hotbrown at Ramsey’s is exactly what you should have gotten. Next time get a piece of the upteen varieties of pie that are freshly made. Plan a trip to come back in the Spring or Fall when Keeneland is racing horses. And even if you’re not bourbon drinkers, any of the Bourbon Trail tours are so interesting (bourbon chocolates are the bomb). Make sure you go by the KY Horse Park and run up to Old Friends farm in Georgetown where they allow retired race horses to live out their golden years.
Parking tip. When parking around tractor trailers like you did at Cabela’s or a rest area, pull half way up in the spot. That way if a tractor trailer pulls in or out there’s little chance they drag their trailer across your van when they are coming or going.
When you guys are looking for your next place to visit, I highly recommend Norther Michigan. Specifically Mackinac Island, The pictured rocks in Municing, MI, The Porcupine mountains, and basically anywhere along Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, or Lake superior. Lake superior is the deepest and coldest great lake. All are beautiful. And its cool to be swimming in a body of water that looks like an ocean, but is fresh water.
you both are living a dream and when i’m older i would love to get a van and travel the world with my friends and family! thankyou for inspiring me i love you both❤️
FYI - for smelly fridges - leave a small container in your fridge with some Bicarbonate of Soda - its anti bacterial so take the smells away - actually for any smells - you can also sprinkle some in your shower- so it doesn't smell 💜
Was I in the middle of something? Yes. Yes I was. Did I stop what I was doing in order to watch this video? Yes. Yes I did. Do I pick this video over what I was doing? Yes. Yes I do. ❤️❤️❤️
The trick to cool yourself down when AC is not being used, is take a wash cloth run it under cold water and pat yourself down. It will cool your skin and make you feel more comfortable. I do it all the time with 90deg weather (I don't use AC at all in the summertime in my apartment).
Love the van life series! I went to the US for the first time right before COVID, we drove from Toronto to Myrtle Beach. Loved the road trip route, just wish we did it in a van!!
Absolutely love these guys, they have been our inspiration to start our own TH-cam channel and attempt to travel full time. To find true happiness means taking a gamble at times and that is exactly what we have done. Thank you Kara and Nate for your motivation and inspiration to live your dreams. ONE LOVE❤️
You were here in Lexington??? LOVE IT!!! Having my favorite travel TH-camrs collide with my other favorite (van life) is crazy and wonderful. I can't wait to see where all you go!
I love snuggling up in bed with my dog and watching your videos! They relax me and make me happy. I especially love your van life videos because it's so interesting and fun. I have watched most of you videos from last year and this year and I am currently digging deep to find new ones. I'm so glad I found this channel. Thank you for making this hard time happier for me and I can't wait until you start traveling again 😘
I was in the middle of doing my summer vacation homework when I got the notification of a new Kara and Nate video...I tell my self "should I continue working or watch the video?"...Then I slide the homework of the table😂😜Love you guys awesome video!!
We usually run a small ceramic heater in the winter so we don’t use up all of our propane. The power went out in the middle of the night in upstate NY in January, our batteries got drained and our furnace used up all of our propane... it was incredibly cold. We usually get full hookup sites and we don’t have solar so we woke up freezing at 3am with no power to run our ceramic heater, no lights and no propane. We never packed up and moved so quickly before... We don’t travel in the north in winter any more... It might be a good idea to avoid the south in the summer, as well...
U really should install a heater/AC unit if u want to sustain the van travel life in the long run. It a good investment all year round, A/C on hot days and especially summer and heater in the winter. Sleeping bags as insulation wont keep u warm enough. U may regret it in the long run. P.S. the mini fan really doesn't do u any justice.
Living in a van is soooo MUCH FUN!! Hope you’re enjoying it & all the teething ‘problems’ are getting ironed out! Currently planning our own little Euro ROAD TRIP...SUPER EXCITED!! Brits🔒’d ⬇️ in 🇪🇪!!
Well, the past month has been a Kara and Nate marathon. My sweetheart wife, Cammy, happened to stumble across a random travel video. She watched, and watched, and watched. Of course, eating, sleeping, and working kept Cammy from becoming a full-time virtual traveler, but there is time for that. She kept watching not only for the fun, informational videos, but because she has become a huge fan of both of you. I love spending time with my wife, so you can only guess what happened. I became a big fan too. You guys are the best, and I wanted to say thank you for sharing your journey with us, as well as igniting an immense case of wanderlust! We have learned so much from your videos, from world geography to the best travel tips, and of course, the two of you are great. We feel privileged to virtually travel with you. Congratulations on the success of your journey, and continued safe journeys. We look forward to your next video (although still catching up on the rest, we decided to start from the beginning)
When you come back east across the Mississippi River, keep in mind: 1. In Memphis, there is a walking/biking path across one of the old bridges, (used to be the first roadway across the river at Memphis), where you can get a good view of the city and have the novelty of standing over the middle of Ol' Man River. 2. The BBQ in Memphis is much, much superior to what's available in St. Louis. (Don't do the Rendezvous tourist-trap; I'm partial to the BBQ Shop; other folks have their favorite places, including some incredible 'cue in some sketchy parts of town.) I would, however, suggest waiting until the weather cools and the dewpoint drops ...maybe November, December... before stopping in Memphis, if you're going to be camping without A/C. :)
Alternatively stay away from the hell hole that us Nashvillians refer to as "Memphis" altogether! I jest, I jest. That Bass Pro is sick and the Grizz have a nice stadium.
I really appreciate this realistic look at #vanlife. It really isn't for everyone...I being one of them. Happy to experience it through your content as your keep it real!
So glad you swung through my hometown! Now I HAVE to try Salt & Smoke! It's only 15 minutes from my house, so I'm sure I can find an excuse to be hungry.
As long as you’re at it, why not install a small RV rooftop air conditioner? They are direct-vent so no ductwork needed. It’s not a huge project and they don’t take much more power than a dehumidifier. At least you could use it when you’re plugged in...
For when sleeping in summer you can buy a cooling mat and you just put it it on the bed and lie on it, my mum got me one and it really helped cool down so I recommend getting one.
Love watching you two but I have a little friendly advice, you two have been on a four year honeymoon, which is great, but now it’s welcome to the real world. Just remember to be kind to each other and no matter what comes your way, you will be able to get through it!
One way to make more room in your pantry is to take things out of boxes and just write the cooking directions/what have you on the plastic bags. That’s what I do whenever we go camping

Just in case you haven’t already tried it - a box of baking soda will remove most odors from your fridge. Love your vlog.
If that doesn't work, mist spray some vanilla extract in that fridge. Neutralizes most odors even baking soda won't kill.
yup tried that, and activated charcoal in an open container will do the trick as well :)
Vinegar smells while you clean with it, but kills most smells.

@@gailcraig4495 And don't forget to cut out or write down the expiration date if it's got a short shelf life.
Kara: "after driving through endless fields..."
Kansas and Nebraska: "Aww, isn't that adorable? Just wait..."
That's what I was thinking (having driven across Nebraska twice in the last two weeks!)
Yes especially Kansas!
kansas sucks ive had to drive all the way thru it for roadtrips several times to get out west
@@avanicole483 That is the problem is that you are driving through it and not seeing Kansas!
@@mlabes4564 i though lmao we stays in kc for a bit and saw a few things along the way i was just talking mainly about the driving part
Hurry, get to Yosemite and Glacier. This is a once in a lifetime to experience some of the world most beautiful and majestic places without any crowd and pristine wildlife.
Montanan here: Glacier is absolutely packed everyday. Yes please go but a lot of tourists are there right now.
2020 is self explanatory yes!! I wish everyone who’s reading this health and happiness and loads of kara and Nate!
Grab some wipers for your van when you can, they definitely need to be replaced. Also you can go to one of the RV stores and pick up a proper tool set for common issues... Expect to have to fix/tighten down at least one thing after every trip... Hope for the best, Plan for the worst! Good start gang!
0:51 -0:54 pretty much sums up a 2020 mood
totally agree with you
Thank you Kara and Nate for being so positve in these tough times, you inspire me to travel the world when i am older.
Kara, I don't think you get enough credit for your editing! Sooo good!
With those kind of humidity levels in your vehicle, watch carefully for mould. Especially under the sleeping quarters.
Cheers to anyone reading this, and no matter the color of your skin, I wish for you, and your family to have an amazing day
Same to you friendb
Awww that's cute. You too 😊
We all team early-squad 😗🤟🏻
I have 2 exams todo so...
Dev Desai u 2 :)

Kara: *sees a tomato slice* “Little bit of nutrition in there” 😂
Try cooling sheets and pillows or pillowcases.I think those will help. Also, a cooling gel pack wrapped in a kitchen towel can be placed on your sheets to help you feel cool. If you buy an a/c unit, you can plug in and take a shower at an RV park. Much more comfortable.
Why not travel north to Montana, Wisconsin to avoid baking hot summer in US south? You can do southern states when winter comes.
Yep! Even though some national parks may have closures, I know Ohio’s state parks are still open, for example.
Absolutely good idea
Since Everybody is being cancelled , Kara And Nate can become the new TH-camrs everybody watches and looks up to 🤗🤗💙 ugh I’m SO happy they decided to keep vlogging
Start the video, kids here the voices came running in... the littlest, “its nara and kate!” Lol close enough, he is working on it , “is it a new one, where are they? “ 🤗 family bonding and travel list building.
Love that! 😭💗 thanks for sharing!
a good idea is to have the windows covered also when its day time so that the sun dont heat up the van ;)
I love how he gets up early every morning and surprise her with a nice cup of coffee 🥰 melts my heart every time!
It's good to see the videos coming in such restricted times still. Good for the soul as Kara said in the video. Stay safe, much respect to you both from Kent England.
“I do not think that the US will be good for my waist line” ... mood
“I do not think that The U.S is going to be good for my waistline” - 😂🤣😅🤣😂👍🏻😱
As an Australian I have to say I’m kind of horrified by the food that seems to be available for take away in the US, it looks so unhealthy. Is everything fried or smothered in cheese?? And what’s with all the polystyrene containers? We phased those out years ago.
As food containers that is
Jane not everything, but certain parts do have some unhealthy meals. If you come to California we don’t have as much of that here.
@@janethomas482 , yeah the American South is pretty fatty and unhealty, but the coasts aren't as bad -- more vegetables.
@@janethomas482 they're choosing those food options. There are plenty of places where things aren't that terrible
We have been traveling fulltime for almost 3 years in the U.S. Kara’s quote is so spot on: “The U.S. will be bad on my waistline, but good for my soul.” 🙌🏾🙌🏽 Glad to see you had a good time in my hometown, StL.
*Casually holds fridge will thanking someone* Lol 😂
😂😂
XD
While*
Charlotte P thanks!
I love how Kara sleeps in while Nate makes coffee for them and I love how he wakes her up and brings it to her
Reading this in 2021.
Stinky fridge solution: one box of Arm and Hammer baking soda. Remove top. Leave in fridge. 👍
Just finished watching Eamon & Bec’s new video, now onto Kara & Nates! Sunday is such a good day🥰
Parking tip. When parking around tractor trailers like you did at Cabela’s or a rest area, pull half way up in the spot. That way if a tractor trailer pulls in or out there’s little chance they drag their trailer across your van when they are coming or going.
A minute in and i already love your editing, your visual humour is absolutely top notch
Put a charcoal inside the refrigerator it will remove the smell!! That’s what we do!
like grill charcoal?
@@glenda9331 yep.
I can't believe how fast I clicked on the video, they just posted two minutes ago 😂😂
Love from Malaysia ❤️❤️
you both are living a dream and when i’m older i would love to get a van and travel the world with my friends and family! thankyou for inspiring me i love you both❤️
FYI - for smelly fridges - leave a small container in your fridge with some Bicarbonate of Soda - its anti bacterial so take the smells away - actually for any smells - you can also sprinkle some in your shower- so it doesn't smell 💜
Use this as a ‘i love kara and nate’ button x👇👇
Its pointing to the dislike button...
No need for that we will just like the video. Stop thirsting for clout.
Sukant Panigrahi im not i just want them to see how much we love them and there videos.
We are new to the TH-cam game and would love your feedback on our Channel at Travel Global! Have a blessed Sunday😃💯🙏

Was I in the middle of something? Yes. Yes I was. Did I stop what I was doing in order to watch this video? Yes. Yes I did. Do I pick this video over what I was doing? Yes. Yes I do. ❤️❤️❤️
Me too 👍🏼😀
You are not alone with that.... LOL
We wish you many safe and happy miles! Looking so forward to this series😀Hopefully nothing else goes wrong!
This is the absolute fastest I have seen one of these videos. You guys are keeping me sane during quarantine. 😂
I’m from Kentucky and I’m so glad you all said Louisville correctly! 😂 Love you guys and I hope you’re having safe travels
When you come back east across the Mississippi River, keep in mind:
Louis. (Don't do the Rendezvous tourist-trap; I'm partial to the BBQ Shop; other folks have their favorite places, including some incredible 'cue in some sketchy parts of town.)
I would, however, suggest waiting until the weather cools and the dewpoint drops ...maybe November, December... before stopping in Memphis, if you're going to be camping without A/C. :)
Alternatively stay away from the hell hole that us Nashvillians refer to as "Memphis" altogether! I jest, I jest. That Bass Pro is sick and the Grizz have a nice stadium.
Your more productive in a van than I am in my house ❤️😩
I really appreciate this realistic look at #vanlife. It really isn't for everyone...I being one of them. Happy to experience it through your content as your keep it real!
So glad you swung through my hometown! Now I HAVE to try Salt & Smoke! It's only 15 minutes from my house, so I'm sure I can find an excuse to be hungry.
You guys should buy a dehumidifier it helps a whole lot!! :)
Yes. They can be pretty small (6"x4"x4" approx. Actually got mine @ Ace hardware)...can tuck away easily. Just empty water receptacle daily.
Honestly....the intro is just cracking me up so much!!! Loved the editing on it❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for keeping the bloopers at the end! 😂
Pro Tip! Leave one space next to trucks when you park up. It's hard for them to maneuver out in the morning if you're too close.
Another great video. I can just smell those coffee beans over here. Have fun on the trip
If my future relationship dont look like yours in just head out 😂😂💙
Ahahaha
They are a sweet couple, but not everything is shown on camera. People usually get angry with each other over petty things all the time.
One way to make more room in your pantry is to take things out of boxes and just write the cooking directions/what have you on the plastic bags. That’s what I do whenever we go camping
I just got out of hospital after spending time in there for a week and your videos have really been helping me through a tough time!
