My husband and I recently bought "Ticket To Ride" and we love it. 😍 Beautiful quality board, cards and pieces. You can play a game in 30-60 minutes (with 2 of us it's typically 30 to 40 minutes per game). It's super fun and I'm so hooked I ended up buying the digital version too so I can play solo or online with others. It's strategic yet not super difficult and is a great stress reliever! It also has expansion packs and several other versions for countries around the world. I really appreciate your video - we've been considering several of the ones you mentioned and it was so helpful to get a better sense of what is involved - thanks for the info!😊

I enthusiastically suggest you add Wingspan to your list! It's so so so good! Super-replayable, less complex than Gloomhaven, and... BIRDS!! It's great for couples, too!! (And two expansions are out as of now!)

One of my all time favorites is "Pandemic". Very fitting to play these days. All players work together against the game itself, trying to keep its diseases at bay and finding cures.
Agreed! Additionally, Legacy is pretty cool because you shape your own version of Pandemic. You're not locked into playing that version, though. With a few slight changes, you can play the standard pandemic with the legacy board/components.
Dominion, we've been playing it for two years! And we bought 7 extensions 😂😅👌🏻 we put on 5 friends and we had dominion only evenings with so much fun 😂 we are considering buying a drawer for all the cards :-)
My husband and I play a lot of cooperative games. Pandemic is our hands-down favorite, but (in addition to a couple that you've mentioned) The Fox in the Forest Duet is a fun quick game. Chronicles of Crime, Back to the Future: Back in Time, Horrified, T.I.M.E. Stories, and Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game are a few others we enjoy playing. Happy gaming!

It is more like 10 cases that are all separate (at least the thames murder one is). You have a map of london and pick where you want to go and read a passage from the book based on where you go. It is a super neat game and one of my favorites

If you like it, you should, no must!, try the 2 Player card game Version of Catan! It works slighlty like 7 wonders but its a bit more Complex. Since i was 12 years old i played it vs my mom and we are still playing 16 years later.

Star Wars Rebellion is my favorite two player game for sure. It’s a bit of a different game than these and probably not for most couples unless they both love board games and are huge Star Wars nerds haha

I encourage you to keep at it with your channel because it starts very slow but subs will inevitably go up exponentially if you put out regular content. You got a new sub!
I would like to suggest a game called "the captain is dead". As terrible as its name sounds it is a game where captain died and the crew of a spaceship must save itself against an alien attack. It is a difficult game thay will make you think a lot. Teamwork brought to the extreme. But it is a great game.
@@TerreDiceGamesYou never did have so much fun losing a game. AI is so good you will lose the game most of times. It can be defeated, I defeated it once. But the game mechanics make its game AI to be tough. It is also in videogame presentation.

Love Letter is one of my favorites, but definitely believe it's better with more than two players. Also, Fog of Love...not a fan of the idea. My husband and I looked at it, saw some play-thrus, and were not impressed at all.
Patchwork and Azul are both solid couples games. We also have gotten a surprising amount of mileage out of Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Not an obvious choice as a two player but works really well! Honourable mention goes to Tales of the Arabian Nights as a lazy Sunday afternoon game.

9Nails - great question!! I’m so glad you asked too, we are planning in the future to have a video on all board game terms! A euro game is a board game that typically has less combat and direct player interaction and is more abstract, sort of like your games where you build routes and go up tracks and progress more abstractly in goals. It’s a broad term, but basically most games with cubes or discs to track things would probably fit 😄 A great intro example is Ticket to Ride, another classic is Hansa Teutonica.

Patchwork, Jaipur and Fox and the Forest are our favorite dedicated two player games. Castles of Burgundy, Obsession and Tiny Epic Galaxies are our favorite 2+ player games that play really well with two players.
I am surprised that you didn' show Mr. Jack, this is great detectivistic game for only 2 players :) If someone like carcassonne, Isle of Skye is absolutely must have, I reccomend it with Druids expansion as well. Another cool game that is deckbuilder is Star realms/Hero realms.
Definitely agree with Hero Realms. It's a great game competitively or with the addition of the cooperative version. Not a fan of Mr. Jack or Isle of Sky. Love Carcassonne, but my husband doesn't care much for tile-placement games.
Great list - we’ve played around half of the ones you recommend. To add to the list though: Jaipur is outstanding Memoir 44 is bigger but utterly amazing if you enjoy strategy or WWII

I had heard good things about Hive & the Tiny Epic line - I've bumped the versions you recommend up in my 'want to play' queue on your say-so. A few other comments: - My wife and I enjoy 7WDuel. Despite those Brits having a point in saying: "It's like toast from a really good restaurant. It's well-made. It's tasty. It's *fine*. But it's still toast." - Carcassonne is a game even non-gamers will enjoy. A plus you did not emphasize is, it's quite pretty. - Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, OTOH, is not for everyone. Me and my previous playgroup found it, um, wasn't our cup of tea. Too much like guessing what the designers' were thinking rather than solving a puzzle. We ended games feeling tense and frustrated. - Villainous. I haven't played it, but from what I've read I suspect that, like Hogwarts Battle & Firefly:The Game, Villainous is a less-than-stellar game that is much more enjoyable if you are a huge fan of the material. Eclipse 2nd dawn and star wars rebellion, together with undaunted are the three we play, organ attack and exploding kittens are fun I the pub, and cards against humanity in a large group.

Glad to hear you liked it! Everdell is really interesting (my favorite game), it is more complex than Catan but certainly learnable, not too many actions, just some reading on the cards. What makes Everdell interesting is it has a higher mastery level - meaning as you get better at it, your games get a lot longer and you get to do more actions. I'm still getting better at Everdell today. But certainly think you could learn it and pick it up, the theme helps a lot too because its just so darn cute!
Five Tribes is a great game that can accommodate four players, but it's possibly better with two. Bidding for two actions per round really increases the strategy and allows greater use of the different tribes and djinns.
Check out MULTI, a new 2 player board game with tic tic toe style gameplay, where you use the beautiful mathematical structure of numbers to defeat hour opponent. Check out more info here joyfulmathematics.com/multi

@@TerreDiceGames We’ve been playing Codenames. Also Mysterium. With Mysterium, it only works if a couple/roommates host together because one person plays as the “ghost”. But with phones/mobile devices set up overlooking the game board and the details of the cards photographed and texted , it came be fun to play distanced. We’ve had a lot of success!

haha I hate villainous mainly because each villain is so different which is good but that also means that some are way easy to win and others aren't and also your entire game is pretty much based on the shuffle of the deck. Like for Jafar, your entire game is ruined if the lamp is at the bottom. Everyone else will get so far ahead and you cant even start your game because of how your deck is shuffled.
I wouldnt suggest Villainous, the game isnt balanced very well and if you pick one of the easier characters to win with you can be finishing your objective while your partner is still trying to figure out how to even complete theirs

The binding of Isaac four souls got us into table top games. It’s great and not very expensive $30 for the base game $15 for expansion. It’s great for two players very RNG and luck based just like the video game so it has great replayability. I want to ask though I saw you had Catan I’ve never played it before but I recently got it I didn’t know the game was designed for 3-4 players though how does it feel playing with just 2 people?
Hadn't heard of the Binding of Isaac game - nice! We haven't gotten a chance to play Catan with 2 since it is meant for 3-4. We save that for the family :) there are definitely better games for 2 players, though I believe there is a Rivals for Catan that is meant for 2 players!

I didn't have a good time playing villainous. It took 5 hours to finish with 5 players and it seemed to drag on and on. Maybe better with 2... but some of the villans have less difficult missions which make the competition unbalanced. The unfair advantage some players got made the 5 hours I played feel like a mean trick. I came in to it with no expectations, but love of Disney villans. But I don't think I'd play it again unless playing just one other person using the SAME villan (would need two copies of the game).
5 hours! My goodness, that’s a long game! 5 is probably a bit high of a player count for this most of the time, I’d do 2-4. The fate cards do a good job at keeping it even as some villains can win much quicker than others. It’s a matter of knowing the villains and when to counter them vs. move forward with your plot. I hope you get a chance to try again!
Exactly the video we were looking for. Yes we try to play some games with just two people but, it's not the same. Like something like Catan or Clue...well just doesn't work for two people. I mean no one is blocking you in Catan really, a lot of board space. Best with 3 or 4 people. And something like Clue is useless. Your opponent doesn't need any deduction. Just dumb with two people. So this was a great list. Thanks! We are going to get two off your list in fact!

I would like to suggest a game called "the captain is dead". As terrible as its name sounds it is a game where captain died and the crew of a spaceship must save itself against an alien attack. It is a difficult game thay will make you think a lot. Teamwork brought to the extreme. But it is a great game.

@@TerreDiceGamesYou never did have so much fun losing a game. AI is so good you will lose the game most of times. It can be defeated, I defeated it once. But the game mechanics make its game AI to be tough.
It is also in videogame presentation.

Love Letter is one of my favorites, but definitely believe it's better with more than two players. Also, Fog of Love...not a fan of the idea. My husband and I looked at it, saw some play-thrus, and were not impressed at all.

Patchwork and Azul are both solid couples games.
We also have gotten a surprising amount of mileage out of Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Not an obvious choice as a two player but works really well!
Honourable mention goes to Tales of the Arabian Nights as a lazy Sunday afternoon game.

My wife and I do a weekly stream of Gloomhaven and it's GREAT. Absolutely would recommend to couples who are both into euro-style games or dungeon crawlers!

This is probably a dumb question, but for someone who's new to board games, what exactly are euro-style games?
9Nails - great question!! I’m so glad you asked too, we are planning in the future to have a video on all board game terms! A euro game is a board game that typically has less combat and direct player interaction and is more abstract, sort of like your games where you build routes and go up tracks and progress more abstractly in goals. It’s a broad term, but basically most games with cubes or discs to track things would probably fit 😄
A great intro example is Ticket to Ride, another classic is Hansa Teutonica.

Patchwork, Jaipur and Fox and the Forest are our favorite dedicated two player games.
Castles of Burgundy, Obsession and Tiny Epic Galaxies are our favorite 2+ player games that play really well with two players.

I am surprised that you didn' show Mr. Jack, this is great detectivistic game for only 2 players :) If someone like carcassonne, Isle of Skye is absolutely must have, I reccomend it with Druids expansion as well. Another cool game that is deckbuilder is Star realms/Hero realms.

Definitely agree with Hero Realms. It's a great game competitively or with the addition of the cooperative version. Not a fan of Mr. Jack or Isle of Sky. Love Carcassonne, but my husband doesn't care much for tile-placement games.

The games here are quite an eclectic mix. I had heard good things about Hive & the Tiny Epic line - I've bumped the versions you recommend up in my 'want to play' queue on your say-so. A few other comments:
- My wife and I enjoy 7WDuel. Despite those Brits having a point in saying: "It's like toast from a really good restaurant. It's well-made. It's tasty. It's *fine*. But it's still toast."
- Carcassonne is a game even non-gamers will enjoy. A plus you did not emphasize is, it's quite pretty.
- Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, OTOH, is not for everyone. Me and my previous playgroup found it, um, wasn't our cup of tea. Too much like guessing what the designers' were thinking rather than solving a puzzle. We ended games feeling tense and frustrated.
- Villainous. I haven't played it, but from what I've read I suspect that, like Hogwarts Battle & Firefly:The Game, Villainous is a less-than-stellar game that is much more enjoyable if you are a huge fan of the material. Reference: www.meeplelikeus.co.uk/villainous-2018/
You asked for suggestions: we've enjoyed Jaipur, Patchwork, and Lost Cities (the original one). Also, many co-ops (the Pandemic line, the Forbidden line) play well with two.

Eclipse 2nd dawn and star wars rebellion, together with undaunted are the three we play, organ attack and exploding kittens are fun I the pub, and cards against humanity in a large group.

Thank you guys, very informative. We play Catan together - how does Everdell's complexity stack up against Catan's? Is Everdell substantially more complex in your opinion?
Glad to hear you liked it! Everdell is really interesting (my favorite game), it is more complex than Catan but certainly learnable, not too many actions, just some reading on the cards. What makes Everdell interesting is it has a higher mastery level - meaning as you get better at it, your games get a lot longer and you get to do more actions. I'm still getting better at Everdell today. But certainly think you could learn it and pick it up, the theme helps a lot too because its just so darn cute!

Five Tribes is a great game that can accommodate four players, but it's possibly better with two. Bidding for two actions per round really increases the strategy and allows greater use of the different tribes and djinns.

@@TerreDiceGames We’ve been playing Codenames. Also Mysterium. With Mysterium, it only works if a couple/roommates host together because one person plays as the “ghost”. But with phones/mobile devices set up overlooking the game board and the details of the cards photographed and texted , it came be fun to play distanced. We’ve had a lot of success!
Checkout Forteller Games, that has done a full audio narration for both Gloomhaven and Jaws of the Lion story, with professional voice actors and musically scored audio dramas!
That’s great! We love acting these out, but I can certainly see the draw - might consider this if we add more people to our party some day! :)

My wife and I love splendor and splendor expansion. And 7 wonders dual. Highly recommended
haha I hate villainous mainly because each villain is so different which is good but that also means that some are way easy to win and others aren't and also your entire game is pretty much based on the shuffle of the deck. Like for Jafar, your entire game is ruined if the lamp is at the bottom. Everyone else will get so far ahead and you cant even start your game because of how your deck is shuffled.
I wouldnt suggest Villainous, the game isnt balanced very well and if you pick one of the easier characters to win with you can be finishing your objective while your partner is still trying to figure out how to even complete theirs

I recommend Jaipur. Excellent 2-player/couples game. Dominion, Pandemic, Azul and Hardback are great 2-player games as well.

The binding of Isaac four souls got us into table top games. It’s great and not very expensive $30 for the base game $15 for expansion. It’s great for two players very RNG and luck based just like the video game so it has great replayability. I want to ask though I saw you had Catan I’ve never played it before but I recently got it I didn’t know the game was designed for 3-4 players though how does it feel playing with just 2 people?
Hadn't heard of the Binding of Isaac game - nice! We haven't gotten a chance to play Catan with 2 since it is meant for 3-4. We save that for the family :) there are definitely better games for 2 players, though I believe there is a Rivals for Catan that is meant for 2 players!
We borrowed a game called Targi that's designed for just two players. It's really a card game, but I loved it. Very replayable

Awesome. I’m new to the board game hobby and started with 60 second city and pandemic. It’s just me and my wife playing. I think I’ll try splendor next, although I think cooperative games may be better for my situation

I didn't have a good time playing villainous. It took 5 hours to finish with 5 players and it seemed to drag on and on. Maybe better with 2... but some of the villans have less difficult missions which make the competition unbalanced. The unfair advantage some players got made the 5 hours I played feel like a mean trick.
I came in to it with no expectations, but love of Disney villans. But I don't think I'd play it again unless playing just one other person using the SAME villan (would need two copies of the game).
5 hours! My goodness, that’s a long game! 5 is probably a bit high of a player count for this most of the time, I’d do 2-4. The fate cards do a good job at keeping it even as some villains can win much quicker than others. It’s a matter of knowing the villains and when to counter them vs. move forward with your plot. I hope you get a chance to try again!

Exactly the video we were looking for. Yes we try to play some games with just two people but, it's not the same. Like something like Catan or Clue...well just doesn't work for two people. I mean no one is blocking you in Catan really, a lot of board space. Best with 3 or 4 people. And something like Clue is useless. Your opponent doesn't need any deduction. Just dumb with two people. So this was a great list. Thanks! We are going to get two off your list in fact!

You like the gems in Splendor? Try out Century - Golem Edition. Same mechanics sort of. But you’re actually using (plastic) gems and not poker chips with pictures of gems on them. Plus the artwork is super reminding of The Iron Giant ☺️
