I wish Miles could have been around to hear this. Music like this is what he was all about and he loved Sly, Prince, and Stevie. This is a protest for the ages.
This song right here, is ethereal to my ears and my soul. It had been such a long time, since I had heard a song that really touched my soul in such a manner, that I actually shed a tear. With such haunting lyrics, we gotta ask ourselves - why we are fed crap daily, when real musicians like D'angelo have to be conditioned to fit a mold, when in reality, they should let artists like this be free. Where do we come from? Where do we belong? Beautifully said, in times of darkness when brothers and sisters are still being discriminated and killed innocently. Thanks D'angelo for making the album, my 90s generation so needed! We are lost sometimes, but you've started a revolution.
Lyrics In a world where we all circle the fiery sun With a need for love What have we become? Tragedy flows unbound and there's no place to run Till it's done Questions that call to us, we all reflect upon: Where do we belong? Where do we come from? Questions that call to us, we all reflect upon Till it's done Till it's done Carbon pollution is heating up the air Do we really know? Do we even care? Acid rain dripping on our trees and in our hair Are you there? Clock ticking backwards on things we've already built Sons and fathers die, soldiers, daughters killed Question ain't "do we have resources to rebuild?" It's "do we have the will?" Perilous dissidence evening up the score Do we even know what we're fighting for? Destinies crippled and thrown about on the floor When we're waging war Questions that call to us, we all reflect upon: Where do we belong? Where do we come from? Questions that call to us, we all reflect upon Till it's done
I had my doubts about the quality of music D'Angelo would drop after such a long break but I was wrong this is an amazing body of work from start to finish. Please don't make us wait so long next time!!!!
when music/lyrics make u cry(not necessarily in a sad way) then thats TRUE SOUL MUSIC.....this whole album is incrdible, but this song is my clear favorite...Salaam
Gary Goode I'm glad you said that. I can def hear GAM inspiration in this song. It's good to know that producers/artists are starting to recognize and give credit to an excellent artist.
Gary Goode That's so funny that you should say that, because it reminds me of something on Erykah Badu's New Amerykah. I think the reason why is because it reminds me of the quirkiness of "Master Teacher".
This is 2014's "what's going on" but it almost comes off as more relevant and timely while transcending any trends within musical genres. Shit, he could of recorded this in 2005 and just been mastering it for nine years. Could anyone make this song while coming across so fucking authentic and casual?
Heard this album for the first time today and I'm absolutely blown away. The intricate production is seriously next level stuff. This album will age beautifully without a doubt. The grooves feel eternal.
If this does not move you, then I don't know what the hell will. When we say "Make music good again", this is what we should use as the benchmark. Artistic delivery.
After careful consideration, this is my favorite from the album. Granted, there were a good five different tracks in consideration for 'best,' album is that killer. It's so contemplative, in the chords, sound, groove, vocals, makes me feel that D'angelo would have gone on his whole life without releasing music, but the tragedy in the news, the struggle, pushed his hand, made him feel like he had to make and release music as a part of something bigger than him. In the end, it wasn't selfishness that convinced him to release music, it was his desire to be a part of the struggle again.
Must have listen to this cut about 100 times already, I am obsessed with this damn song..See myself singing background on this one. can't believe a slept on this whole album for a whole month, was trippin D'Angelo a genius right up there with my boy Stevie, Donny, and Prince
GREAT SONG, MY FAVORITE ON THE ALBUM! I listen to this back to back constantly since i got the album. D aint never go nowhere, but he's back with a soulful collection.

the way is panned and has that glistening sound actually reminds me of pink floyd. You can hear a watering keyboard in the back which is very early floyd like. Brilliant song. Everything is tight
Thank you so much D for these jewels of soulful music. This what we been missing. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say we are glad you back brother. Your core base never gave up on you. One thing they can't stop is pure good music. #salute
Real music ...(!!!!) .... someone with a heart and mind made this ... not a robot full of the usual pap ... Sly Stone, Prince, George Clinton ...loose and free ...THANKS!!
Huge D'angelo fan, wish the entire album was as good/polished as this song. Mostly felt unfinished despite critics fawning over it. Still good to hear new music from the dude.
This is like listening to Pink Floyd, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Prince all rolled into one...OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! :)
All These Musical Genuses Rolled Up In 1? I Couldn't Take It! I'd 'Groove' Clean Outta' My Freakin' Mind!

Angela Matthews I agree
My favourites are "Really Love" and "Sugah Daddy". The first really describes how I'm feeling right now hahaha
There's not one album of D'angelo's that i like better than the other. They're all on the same level. PURE DOPENESSSS!!!
Eargasmic... …D'Angelo is his own genre!
I wish Miles could have been around to hear this. Music like this is what he was all about and he loved Sly, Prince, and Stevie. This is a protest for the ages.
D'Angelo's music, no matter which album, makes me feel like a natural woman.
I may not be a woman but I completely agree 👍
Sly stone , funkadelic, Prince wrapped in one
King Vic I hear some Erykah Badu too :)
And Jimi Hendrix. Agreed.
The last 1:30 minutes of this track is phenomenal
But am i the only person who can't wait for that jam session at the end???
Nope!
yes dear the last minute of this masterpiece is so fulfilling.

Sort of like "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. Brilliance
his 10 year gap between this and the album before was worth the wait/time. he has matured so much from the previous album
What an anthem. What lyrics. What musicianship. As close to perfect as you are going to get
how music should be, with love from South Africa
Yes.
Give Georgia Anne Muldrow a verse on this...It would blast this track into the cosmos..right now its cruisin.put it on a rocket ship wit Georgia.
Gary Goode
I'm glad you said that. I can def hear GAM inspiration in this song. It's good to know that producers/artists are starting to recognize and give credit to an excellent artist.
Gary Goode Michelle Mitchell O_o Anyone who says Georgia Anne Muldrow and D'Angelo in the same sentence is a tribe I belong to!! Straight up!
Gary Goode That's so funny that you should say that, because it reminds me of something on Erykah Badu's New Amerykah. I think the reason why is because it reminds me of the quirkiness of "Master Teacher".
Fav song on the album. This album will go back 30 years from now as a blue print master piece.
Favourite song on the album.

Phat! Fat! Phatt! When Sly Stone came out with "Riot Going On!" It sounded like music from another planet! Finally some new exciting music!
If this does not move you, then I don't know what the hell will. When we say "Make music good again", this is what we should use as the benchmark. Artistic delivery.
The last few notes at 3:31 just make the whole song complete. Satisfying
The lyrics to this song, the lyrics to all of these songs are incredibly deep, beautiful, dope. Quality music right here. Album is another classic.
The G.O.A.T 💯
D'Angelo is a genius but Pino Palladino's bass drives this album.

OMG the LYRICS make this song so much more powerful and easier to appreciate
Its admittedly difficult to actually hear and understand everything he's saying here, so here are the lyrics:
[Verse 1]
In a world where we all circle the fiery sun
With a need for love
What have we become?
Tragedy flows unbound and there's no place to run
Till it's done
Questions that call to us, we all reflect upon:

[Verse 2]
Carbon pollution is heating up the air
Do we really know? Do we even care?
Acid rain dripping on our trees and in our hair
Are you there?
Clock ticking backwards on things we've already built
Sons and fathers die, soldiers, daughters killed
Question ain't "do we have resources to rebuild?"
It's "do we have the will?"
[Verse 3]
Perilous dissidence evening up the score
Do we even know what we're fighting for?
Destinies crippled and thrown about on the floor
When we're waging war
Questions that call to us, we all reflect upon:
Where do we belong? Where do we come from?
Questions that call to us, we all reflect upon
Till it's done
Till it's done

If I had 3 wishes, one of them would be to hang out with D'Angelo and the Vanguard during their jam sessions.
Wow! Its a song you feel within your soul. I had to step outside left my company just to take it in.
these grooves are sick!!!! the vocals are so emotive.
the way is panned and has that glistening sound actually reminds me of pink floyd. You can hear a watering keyboard in the back which is very early floyd like. Brilliant song. Everything is tight
FOR REAL!
I thought I was the only one who made that connection and felt the similarity between Floyd and D. Shit man, you nailed it.
This is an exceptional album! Genius!
If the next album is half as good as this one..it'll be worth the wait! God bless you and everyone involved in this masterpiece!
.. timeless
Listen to this song with loud volume then with soft volume and you experience two different moods
Still our world, a decade later. We can do better but do we want to?
It felt like SLY & THE FAMILY STONE.... breathed on this!
THIS WILL FOREVER BE RELEVANT
Was sitting in my barbershop chair when I heard this and I wasnt a hard core followerer of D' Angelo but this tune hit me like a freight chain.👍
I dare any freestyle emcee not to start spontaneously spitting at the 3:19 mark. Pure fire!!!
