D'Angelo really pushed the boundaries on music with this Long Play. This is the proverbial "Dark Energy" of the musical sphere: causing both the expansion and magnification of both the sound and brain waves. This man must have studied the effect of sound waves on the human mind, cause he's fuckin me up.

@@juru6887In a Red Bull interview, Erykah Badu was asked about D’Angelo - to which she stated “he’s studying quantum physics.”
In Music, there are sounds and tones that have a direct effect on the human body. Down to specific regions and parts.
In short: To be able to stimulate thought while arousing the body is a deep musical science.
D and the Vanguard got it right here.

How does one attempt to be
The kind of friend that you would want to keep?
I just want to say to thee
Even though it might be hard to believe
The candy-coated thoughts that drift through my sleep
Let me know it's you that holds the key
I got a craving for confection so sweet
For the taste of when our lips first meet
    [CHORUS]
Oh, in another life, I bet you wouldn't know that
Oh, in another life, I bet you were my girl
I just wanna take you with me
To secret rooms in the mansions of my mind
Shower you with all that you need
Take my hand, I swear I'll take my time
I'm not surprised to find that angels compete
For the chance to lay down at your feet
I'm gonna touch in all of the places that please
    Pull you close
    I wanna feel you breathe
    [CHORUS]
Oh, in another life, I bet you wouldn't know that
Oh, in another life, I bet you were my girl
It's another reason for the season
I don't wanna break your heart
Oh, in another life, I bet you were my girl, Oh!

If you remember what caused him to take a hiatus in the first place [the result of the "Untitled" video], I think many actually forget this. He's in the right place now, we don't have to worry about that anymore. I only hope nothing else happens to him. He became my favorite music artist from the moment I heard him yeaaaars ago. I really wonder how many people held on to hope all these years, I know good and well I did. This is just as classic as Voodoo. I don't compare his albums, because he evolves and change each album. He's like.... the Mozart of soul to me.

    R.I.P Prince... Another life.
A testament to Prince's genius that my personal fav artist of all time, a genius himself, was mainly inspired by Prince.
D'Angelo the only musician IMO that can fill, maybe not completely, but do a damn good in filling the void left behind by the GREATEST. Rare phenomenons like these two only come around once or twice a generation so while one great decides to pack up and kick it above the clouds, let's enjoy the greats still kicking under our clouds.

This music is so beautiful. It's like hearing heaven, like realising after all that it's really real. And the sun and the dark and shadows and light are all so beautiful and incredible. Have you ever cried because something was perfect? Rarely. But we shed tear upon tear from grief, failure and loss. We surrounded ourselves by so much trash and let's admit it, we are addicted to a lot of the various types of ugliness out there. But my goodness I hope that by listening to this album like me you too are moved to feel that soothing connection and glimpses of brilliance that is the warm power of deep beauty moving like this, like slow and soft shooting stars. If this music is from the earth, bless for once this gravity for keeping me (us) here to hear it. THANK YOU D'ANGELO!

When I first heard this song, I INSTANTLY knew this track was potentially special. At the first hook (around the 1:20 mark), the track switched gears and my thought was "Wow"! At the second hook (around the 3:00 mark), the track switched gears again..."are you serious"? Then came the final hook (around the 4:20 mark) and yet another gear shift..."Masterpiece"!!! 30 years from now, true music lovers will be calling this track timeless.

I can't quite put it into words, but no other song has carried me through such euphoria than this song. It's cool to see all the positive feedback on D'angelo's music. He would love to read all of these comments. After Untitled, all that the majority saw was a sexy naked Black man. They weren't into the music that he worked so hard writing and creating. This song not only brings me to tears because it's beautiful, but it also makes me sad hearing the emotion, pain and joy that he sings with. To think that people couldn't look past his good looks makes me terribly emotional.

One day I was cooking and asked, Alexa, to play D'Angelo and the first song played as Another Life. I said Aleza, repeat, it played again. I'm saying this song is the bomb!!!!! One of the best I've heard from D'Angelo, why don't I know this song? I go to TH-cam and played it to find out I have this song on the Black Massiah album that I neglected to listen to its entirety. Another Life"
How does one attempt to be
The kind of friend that you would want to keep?
I just want to say to thee
Even though it might be hard to believe
The candy-coated thoughts that drift through my sleep
Let me know it's you that holds the key
I got a craving for confection so sweet
For the taste of when our lips first meet
    [Chorus:]
    [Chorus:]
Oh, in another life, I bet you wouldn't know that
Oh, in another life, I bet you were my girl
It's another reason for the season
I don't wanna break your heart
Oh, in another life, I bet you were my girl, Oh!

For D'Angelo, it was never question as to when he would become great...
    He entered game as GREATNESS!
From the first drop of Brown Sugar, and everything that would follow...
D'Angelo has been and continues to be the GOLD STANDARD. Period.
There have been predecessors, and contemporaries of soul/R&B who's music has made us run out and write passionate, emotional love letters to past lovers, or start all new flowery love affairs...But very few like the music of D'Angelo....* He is a Genius!

I first this on TH-cam two years ago when D'Angelo performed it live on tour. I fell in love instantly. I hoped that the studio version would live up to it. It did. My sides and stomach were cramping due to my smiling so hard. It's perfect song to end the album with as well. "Black Messiah" is a good album after two listens and will get better with more I suspect, but this was perfect after 10 seconds.
