In my experience, the heavy slash perfect against any one hit kill weapon or when on low health. Since initiating the animation is near instant, you can essentially use it as a "lockout" or safety tool especially against melee users.
Yes I believe Ace forgot to mention the "Locked in animation" time, because being shot at for 250ms with the quick slash is worse than not being shot at at all with the heavy slash if it instantly locks the enemy in
Honestly such fun weapon to use- I wish that had just switched the button layout. Quick slash should be your fire button and heavy should be aim down sight. I kind of need to rewire my brain a bit when using it
Interesting Warzone 3 stats, that I am pretty sure are true: -Heavy Swing will only execute the Finishing move from behind or the side, it will deal 150 damage to the front -If the enemy is at or below 150hp (plates broken) a Heavy swing from the front will perform the Finishing move -Note that the Finishing move KILLS the player immediately, they don't get downed even if they have a self-revive or you are playing Duos/Trios/Quads (-The Quick Swing deals 150 DMG)
Is it better to use the Light Swing or Heavy Swing in Warzone? Also, does the Light Swing lock in the enemy in Warzone with the animation like the Heavy Swing does?
Inadvertently found a counter to this. If you hold a throwing knife, when someone does the heavy slash you'll immediately throw the knife right at them and kill them.
Apart from a little problem of not being able to tac sprint for a whole second after using a throwing knife the melee is extremely fun to use, if only that bug got patched I would be using it permanently.

I like anything that counters the Riot Shield. Typically the thermite has been my go to weapon but I'll have to check this new sword out. There's gonna be a lot of sword fighting going on. Perhaps they'll put a Soulrender only map in the play list. :)
You're better off with semtex or thermite, a good sheilder will throw something at you as soon as you pull the sword out. However the sword is fun and super satisfying killing people with it

For a pure melee build, I still prefer the Karambit outside of the Soulrender's ability to counter riot shields. But if I feel like melee-ing people, usually I just throw the underbarrel chainsaw onto the SVA-545 and use a mixed build that can shoot at medium range and jab the chainsaw into people close-up.
You can run around with heavy attack button held down. This holds the sword up, ready to strike. I am curious what that does to the attack times etc...
I imagine quick slash is probably still a lot faster, but it does remove the need to react in time as long as you get close enough. That might explain how I've felt like I got the upper hand using it against other melee users, I thought there was some counter mechanic or something lol.
They gotta do something about the annoying delay after using equipment with the Soul Render. Every time I throw a knife or Shuriken, I cant swing or sprint for a good second or 2 and its extremely annoying. It feels really clunky. Even having Ordnance gloves doesn't help it.
I didnt see this mentioned anywhere, maybe I missed it. You can use the melee button for the quick slash instead of using the ADS button/trigger. I could not get the hang of pulling the left teigger for a quick attack.
Love the idea of showing creativity in the melee department. Plus very cool that it can counter a riot shield but I wish it had a specific animation when going up against a riot shield
I would have liked to see how long it takes after pressing the button for the enemy to be locked into the animation for the heavy attack If, for instance, they were locked in in 100 ms, than the heavy attack might be better in 1v1 scenarios because the enemy is forced to stop firing 150 ms earlier, which is pretty significant
we need more ways to counter shield users that are not tacticals and lethals and seeing how this sword does that it is great too many people use it as a crutch as is
@@littlebadassgaming direct impact with launcher is blocked and if player is facing you iven splash damage is blocked if the the splash comes from the front and if they have eod say goodbye to both of your shots with it also trophies exist crossbow is useless for the most part in mp. too slow to reload shotguns with most ammo types are also blocked and didnt know about the chainsaw because i dont use that attachment slot for underbarrel stuff other than angle grips

@@thomasdick6797really? The meter seems to move at different speeds depending on what you're holding. If you're holding a heavier weapon and then change to a lighter weapon while the meter is refilling, it even moves backwards as if to say you get more tac sprint with the lighter weapon.
As a main zombies player the tonfa is my favorite because it crits on the 3rd sequential hit and that makes it stand out from the others. As for multiplayer, the melee weapons all feel really similar so it really comes down to style as the defining factor, and the soulrender having a built in finisher definitely takes the style points
Just want to add, the heavy slash is actually very viable Yes the riot shield counter is great BUT what it also does is lock your opponent in place and cancels their inputs. Against a tonfa or a melee with really short range or slow speed, you're at a major advantage because you can usually put them in the execution animation, canceling their actions. It's also insanely good for warzone because it completely ignores the downed state and instantly kills them (you have to 2 plates or less to get the execution animation)
I can't get over how hard the riot shield nerfs hurt melee. I get wanting to punish riot shield speed but I feel like those speed nerfs should only be applied when using multiple primary weapons. It's hard enough to use a knife or a pistol compared to primary weapons especially on the big maps in this game. Just feels completely overkill to hurt the secondary gameplay when those players are already choosing a disadvantage with their loadout.
I think it's already pretty easy to counter the riot shield with the semtex, thermite and drill lethals. Then there's the drill underbarrel GL. Also, you can somewhat do the same when the enemy has the shield on his back by using one of the quick executions.
I still say that the Icepick and Kamas should have some of the lunge reduction reverted since they’ve largely just been outclassed now plus the slow swing speed
I am really liking the soulrender with ability to get at riot shields. I did not know the front attack works but I did know the back and when they lay down worked. I have been using at a secondary when there seems to be that annoying riot shield player or two.
I'm curious if the Heavy Slash finishing animation has priority over a normal slash. In other words, who wins in the event of melee vs melee if both are within each other's lunge range? Also, Jak Ripper went through shields while revving, if that hasn't changed. It doesn't have the lunge, so Soulrender is the better option.
Theres apparently a bug with the soul render, Theseknivesonly realised, after throwing a throwing knife, or switching weapons, it doesnt let the player melee immediately, lost many fights because missing a throwing knife or switching weapons messes up the timing and doesnt do anything when trying to slash

With the heavy hits on Warzone, after like one or two hits, the enemy not only is locked in with the animation, but is dead immediately. Is it the same for the light hit?
If the animation lock actually happens immediately after pressing the button, it seems it could very well be optimal in situations besides riot shielders. 250ms could easily be the difference between living and dying against a guy shooting back.
I actually picture shield users using this more often than other players but many players having a load out with it specifically for when they get irritated by a shield user

Teammates likely wouldn't react fast enough unless they are already watching, as saying "Help" is with human reaction times is over the ttk. Shotguns might work, but they have to stand out of the 2 meter range. A lot of points allow you to circumvent this. Shotty isn't a great solution for this, range is.
One question that you didn't answer here that I believe to be very important. How long does it take for an enemy to be "locked in" to the Heavy attack animation? Like from the press of the button, to when the enemy can no longer do anything. If it's less than 250ms then I'd think it would be the better option in those encounters where covering the distance to cut them, while they fire bullets into your chest, would leave you dead first. Whereas, if you used the heavy attack, you would prevent them from shooting while you killed them.
A secondary weapon that hard counters primary weapon to the point where it is now near impossible to complete some Riot Shield challenges is probably a major issue. A certain chainsaw does it better. I see this becoming a popular weapon since most people don't use secondaries.
I really like SHGames' focus on delivering content the community likes. I'm still enjoying MWIII quite a lot despite SBMM at times. However, they really need the longbow. I'm having OG MW2 PTSD x 2 from it. It is so ridiculous I got 112 kills with it on Das Haus, had a 19 gunstreak with it and got killed on Karachi on a 25 gunstreak by the most ridiculous quickscope. It is unbalanced with a high TTK

I’ve been using it non stop it’s so much fun one of my favorites already, but I think it’s glitched rn if you use a throwing knife you can’t run or do any actuons for a solid minute and I’m curious I heard that if you hold R2 or the fire button and go into that stance mode you get more lunge can you confirm or deny this thank you!
While it's 800ms to finish off someone with the heavy attack, how long is it to START the animation so at least that enemy can't do anything about it? And if you hold to charge, how long after you release until animation start?
what are the times for starting the animation from button push and what is the time to start the animation from "pre-charging" the heavy slash? I've used the animation lock to stop people from killing me to a good degree of success, depending on if I can break their tracking on me or if they just miss their shots.
It makes the riot shield useless it would be tine with quick slash only riot shield is the only counter i have to snipers there are already thermites semtex and a flamethrower why does there need to be an easy way to take out riot shields
@@trystanfrank9206 we do that to but we derank from our current skill group in the sbmm then when we use the shields we are fighting potatoes and it’s great. However anyone with skill uses all the different counters and shields are useless.
Been using the soul render in loaded resurgence, I find that execution on RT to be very inconsistent and the quick slash is nothing compared to the tonfa TTK
The only thing i dont like about these gun guides, is that they dont ever really include having fun as part of the review. the soulender heavy slash is so much fun to use and is very satisfying even though it’s objectively bad. wish there were more fun builds or interesting ways to play shown off both in the gun guides and the reviews. (go for more finishing moves! They’re fun to watch!)
I'd rather have my enemy be completely unable to do anything to me while I deal 300 damage than do 2 swipes to do the same damage and let the enemy fire bullets all the while. For warzone that's just OP.

Flamethrower underbarrel is underrated for shields not the best against players in general but so good against shields

The riot shield can counter the heavy slash if you are higher in elevation. Like ontop of a box.

Like an animation that stabs right through the shield into the stomach or chest or a stab in the spine if on the back

I can’t test but it is faster than 250 If you pre-aim it (hold it and wait for someone to chase you around a corner).

Kinda wish they at least acknowledged the shield in the animation. First slash knocking the shield out of the way, second slash a finisher.

I’ve been using it non stop it’s so much fun one of my favorites already, but I think it’s glitched rn if you use a throwing knife you can’t run or do any actuons for a solid minute and I’m curious I heard that if you hold R2 or the fire button and go into that stance mode you get more lunge can you confirm or deny this thank you!
While it's 800ms to finish off someone with the heavy attack, how long is it to START the animation so at least that enemy can't do anything about it? And if you hold to charge, how long after you release until animation start?

what are the times for starting the animation from button push and what is the time to start the animation from "pre-charging" the heavy slash? I've used the animation lock to stop people from killing me to a good degree of success, depending on if I can break their tracking on me or if they just miss their shots.
Soulrender is cool and all, but when are we getting a balisong?
IMHO the quick slash should map to the fire button and the heavy slash should map to the ADS button.
Why wasn't the JAK limb ripper part of the comparison?
It makes the riot shield useless it would be tine with quick slash only riot shield is the only counter i have to snipers there are already thermites semtex and a flamethrower why does there need to be an easy way to take out riot shields
Karambit is my fav followed closely by Soulrender. Karambit is just so fast.
Can they attack you with the riot shield during the heavy attack animation? Will the shield have any affect on the heavy attack, like interrupt it?
Nope. Once the animation begins, the shield essentially disappears and the enemy is locked into the animation
The reason to use the heavy slash is that they can't shoot you while you're doing it, obviously.
Playing Das House 24/7 has made ke hate the Karambit so much.
Riot shield has now been render useless at the higher skill send. It’s a real shame
No they haven't. I have a team of 6+ people who all play search with shields. We are all named turtle. It's a great time
@@trystanfrank9206 we do that to but we derank from our current skill group in the sbmm then when we use the shields we are fighting potatoes and it’s great. However anyone with skill uses all the different counters and shields are useless.

Been using the soul render in loaded resurgence, I find that execution on RT to be very inconsistent and the quick slash is nothing compared to the tonfa TTK
I hate taking my thumb off the right thumb stick to use the quick slash
Then the challenges to unlock it are fun.
The only thing i dont like about these gun guides, is that they dont ever really include having fun as part of the review. the soulender heavy slash is so much fun to use and is very satisfying even though it’s objectively bad. wish there were more fun builds or interesting ways to play shown off both in the gun guides and the reviews. (go for more finishing moves! They’re fun to watch!)
I'd rather have my enemy be completely unable to do anything to me while I deal 300 damage than do 2 swipes to do the same damage and let the enemy fire bullets all the while. For warzone that's just OP.
