This is what people forget. The original British skinhead culture was not the Neo-Nazi football hooligans that are always portrayed today. Being a skinhead was a fashion and cultural statement, following on from the 1960s mods. There was even a sub -genre of gay skinheads. Good times and great gear! A look that was much better than the scruffy beardy weirdy hipsters of today

The Skinhead Culture is Not' a fashion statement or a Whimsical fad..It is an inner Personal identity Culture and Lifestyle.
@@briandyers8981 I agree. My point was that the media categorises all skinheads as violent thugs. I was attempting to put the record straight from my own experience of skinhead mates I had when I was younger. None of them were football hooligans or paki bashers but friendly guys who happened to liked to dress in a particular way.

You just know none of them were there in the late seventies.
None of them remember seeing a band with black and white musicians for the first time.
None of them realise two tone wasn't a racing flag, it was anti racist.
And anyone could drive a scooter, the highway code didn't say you needed to wear a parker to drive one!
So happy I was there, so happy I was heavily influenced.
I am having a rant so I will shut up but before I go, the new Specials Album seems to have all the DNA in tact from the early releases.
Political, radical, thought provoking.
Hopefully it will wake up some young bands to what you should be singing about.

Bring back? You can get Dr. Martens on their website that are MADE IN ENGLAND all day long. The Asian made ones are for people that don't want to spend $200 for a pair of boots. But the genuine ones are totally available.

My first pair of Docs were great. Bought my second pair many years later.....something was totally off in the fit....discovered the second pair was made in China............never again.
Solovair is the way to go brother!

I think you can still get made in England Doc Martens. However they are about twice the price of the Indian or Chinese made ones.

First pair of Docs in 1977, black pair, no yellow stitching. Second pair ox blood, yellow stitching. Third pair black, maximum eyelets (can't remember how many), bought in Timpsons 1984 for thirty quid! Well worth the money back then.

I #STANDFORTHING. I 80s I came Mod, what I stand for dancing only like SKA music, shouldn't beat up people for there pair of Dr. Martens. In 80s it was very bog Mod fashion here in Ontario Canada, some place in Ontario Canada still big fashion for Mods. I did have Mods friends, Rude Boys, Rude Girls, Skinheads listen to SKA, I knew Punks too. I am still Mod, Dr. Martens is very comfortable foot wear after when you break in you're Dr. Martens.
Mate before Dr Martins and skins it were steel toe cap pit boots and the lads were " Boot Boys".... 60's were the best! 😎✊

I don't get this Skinhead Mod love in you see today, back in the early eighties they really hated each other.As soon as the Mods rolled into a seaside town on their scooters the Skinheads would be coming off the trains all ready for a weekend of punch ups.
The old days are over. Tribal wars are pointless.
scootering and northern soul started them to realize they had a lot in common (which had always existed anyway).
Also a lot of right wing skinheads in the 70's & 80's made it difficult for them to get on with mods (loving motown/60's soul/ska/bluebeat/jazz - produced by black artists).
Now the two cults appreciate each others music and clothing.........so more in common than differences.
In the early 80's i ran a scooter club......we had mods, skinheads, punks, rudeboys, just lovers of scooters and any patriot was welcome - but no rascist's.

If China would do just a great job as before it wouldn't be an issue, I have the same problem with Vans, skateboard shoes, they feel great but the glue doesn't hold up. Come up with the cute commercials all you want, but picking up the pace with quality, wuld be a good move .
