  • Should the government stop subsidising MPs meals in Parliament and instead use the money to support food banks?
    A petition launched by Westminster's largest food bank has received over 80,000 signatures to support its mission to end subsidised meals for MPs.
    They say that more than three million people in the UK relied on food banks last year - while Parliament's 17 bars and eateries made a loss of £7 million - which was paid for instead by taxpayers.
    The North Paddingtion Food Bank would like to see that money used for essential community services, like food banks, which could significantly reduce hunger and poverty.

    MPs should not have anything subsidised. They are well paid and it is obcene that in this day and age they have these perks when people are struggling

    Yes we should stop subsiding their meals and bar bills. We should also stop glorifying foodbanks as an alternative to food poverty. Food and enough food to eat should be a human right

      We should also stop glorifying foodbanks as an alternative to food poverty. well said! the fact we have people having to step in and do this makes it clear how greedy our leaders are. how broken our system is. and how big the divide. the quality of a society is measured against how it treats its poor. the opportunities for growth. and general quality of life.

      If the in-House meals were not subsidised then MPs would simply go out to a restaurant (expensive) in London and claim it in expenses. Cheaper to subsidise.

      We should all stop doing as we are told & that's what's happening with these riots. The British public have had enough of these illegal immigrants coming here & getting everything handed to them on a plate. This isn't great Britain this is broken Britain!

    It's not like they eat egg and chips. They have 3 course meals cooked by a professional chef. They can afford to pay for their own, or they could take a packed lunch, like we have to!

    How many other employers would allow their staff to drink alcohol during working hours, subsidised or not. The Palace of Westminster is a workplace even if many MPs think otherwise

    firstly, they earn enough to pay for their meals, secondly subsidazing booze at workplace is just another level of absurdity.
    ask every british worker, booze is forbiden at work, especially if you are responsible for making key decissions affecting peoples lives, you are supposed to be 100% sober, arent you?

    Bill from Wirral states that MPs have been getting away with pay rises above inflation for 'the past 300 years', conveniently ignoring the fact that MPs were unpaid until 1911.
    With that being said, the subsidising of MPs food and drink should stop.

    to be fair what they spend on 1 meal would feed me for a month. i dont get free meals. working construction i spend 4 hours a day unpaid just to get to work and build the uk. all the food to fuel that activity comes out my own wages. i cant afford to piss it away with alcohol. and im certainly not happy to pay for their addictions. when you as a company provide meals that is out of your profits. but they dont make their own money. instead of creating their own income sources they just take ours with no plan to ever stop or create other revenue streams. with all the laws set out to deprive citizens of their resources. i think they take way more than the inch agreed to. the pricing on the fish n chips is a bit low around 7 to 8 pounds upwards these days but you can get like a burger n chips for a 5er.. this is a treat ,, takeaway. ill do it 1 time a month. around pay day as a treat. you dont eat takeaway every day. about 6 to 12 pounds a time. for 1 person to sit in a cafe n eat a burger n chips/ full English breakfast. it costs more than a 5 to get coffee and a burger from mc donolds.

      Yeah some people done look at wages like this I do..look at the price of items including what your talking about...eg nmw 11 63 an hour or these abouts go for fish and chips on break if got the time and money it would cost around 8 pound so that's around working time of 45 mins just for the food

    Unfortunately its probably a old addition to the job, hence - part of their salary, if its stopped, their wages will go up to replace the loss. Do you really think they are going to lose out?

  • @floydatwork
    @floydatwork 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The majority of MPs have at least one other outside job, which in many cases is a very well paid job for what little they do for that job. I think the MPs should be on the minimum wage and if they don't like it they can raise it so everyone on it benefits from it.

    They earn enough so maybe they should pay what it costs. However, this does not just affect them. It also affects those who are on low wages, such as all the staff who work in Parliament.
    It could have a knock-on effect on those who make and serve the food. Their jobs may suffer,

  • @lizevans8043
    @lizevans8043 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    absolutely the money could be spent on those who need it most thats not MPS years ago i worked as a nurse and our meals were subsided but that stopped a long time ago and certainly not alcohol could be said this could lead to addiction bit like smoking which they want to ban

    What I would like to see is more community owned allotments. I’d also like to see less large supermarkets selling things in equal packs of 2 or 4 because they don’t believe odd number families exist. I’d also like to see large supermarkets more price regulated. Why do I have to pay extra for an item in a large supermarket when I can buy it cheaper from a local high street shop in a low income area. Example a can of coke near me is £1. If I travel a few miles on the bus I can buy two cans for £1.50. Why?

    If that’s the kind of food they get offered in Parliament I kind of feel sorry for them now. It looks rank. I used to work in a City firm and our meals were subsidised by the company and they were so much nicer than what they show on here. Our meals looked like Michélin quality compared to that sorry display! 😂
    I’m not surprised the meals are getting wasted if that’s what is on offer! 🤢
