A wonderful tutorial - thank you so much Jane!
Now I know how I want to use my Inktense blocks...great presentation! Can't wait to watch more on the thermofax it's new to me.
Glad you enjoyed it and were inspired!
Wow! Love that heart design and such a cool technique with the Inktense. You are the queen of thinking outside of the box.
Thanks for the kind compliment!! I never have been one who could be :"boxed in..." :)
Another wonderful tutorial. This process lends itself well to blending colors - love that!
Thenks Jane! I can't wait to try this technique!!
So much fun.
I just discovered you today! What a treat! I have a question on lightfastness. I have only used some of the Inktense pencils and know that you have to watch to make sure the ones you use are lightfast. I heard that the sticks are more lightfast. Do you know? I adore your videos! I love experimenting!
Thanks, Kathleen! Welcome! I don't know that about comparing lightfastness for Inktense pencils versus blocks but would guess it is the same since the pigment is the same, just in a different form.
@@JaneDunnewold I have looked at the current charts and there are a lot more with higher lightfast ratings now, although those pinks and purples are still the ones to look out for. I agree that they should be the same materials, although I think they raised the lightfastness on the blocks before the pencils... from what someone who had bought some a few years ago said. I seem to remember the idea of lightfastness becoming important in the 90s. It takes a while for some manufacturers to catch up!
Love it! Thanks Jane.
Thank you Jane....very exciting...I felt like I was printing it myself! If you were using this for something you would later wash (teatowel, teeshirt), would the paint come off in the wash?
As long as the gel medium is permanent the color should be fine. If the two don't mix completely during printing the color may fade a little in washing.
These crayons and the binder will work well on paper as well? And I use a 100 grade mesh for my thermofax…is that okay for use on paper?
Yes, to both questions, Alexa!
Hi Jane! Can one use textile medium instead of gel medium?
Maybe a mix of textile medium and gel medium?
And I should probably heat set also?
I'm printing on T-shirts. I will do some practice first.
Hey K! Yes a mixture should work but it should work with plain textile medium also.
;Hi Jane, Great video. I want to purchase some water soulable crayons, what was your fiavorite brand?
Hi Jason,
I like Inktense Crayons! I linked to them in the video description. Give them a try!
Hi Jane, I wanted to try this technique, but I have a question. How do you care for the fabric after it has been printed? Can the printed fabric be washed or does it need to be dry cleaned. I want to use the technique is a wearable art piece and need to know about the care instructions. Thanks again for creating such useful and informative videos.
Thanks for asking, Jason. After the fabric is steamed - which sets the dye (that was mixed into the crayon) it
s "set" so it can be washed - no need for dry cleaning. Just be clear that steaming is required to set the color. If you washed the fabric before you steamed it the dye would wash out.
Hi Jane. I have done this technique before just by drawing on a screen but I love your twist using your thermofax screens. Thank you for all of your wonderful videos. You are helping me stay sane through my covid-19 self isolation ;o)
Susan
Hi - your link for the thermofax screens is not working. Just an FYI
Thank you for letting me know, Lyssa! Fixing them now!
