    This man is underatted and one day I hope he will be remembered not only the drummer of The Beach Boys but also a Piano Virtuoso and Beautiful Songwriter. Dennis wrote some very beautiful ballads and I hope one day people will reconize him for his talent and not always think about his dark addictions. I will never forget his talents etc and i wish to god i could of met him as i met Brian and Carl and MIke but maybe ill meet him in the next world RIP Brother.

    By 1969, Dennis was already showing his amazing progress as a terrific songwriter. By 1977, he had joined Brian in the "genius" category, but was always overshadowed by his brother. I still believe that had Bambu (even in its so-called "incomplete" form) had been released in 1979 or 1980, it would have been just as successful as Pacific Ocean Blue. There were 12-14 tracks that could have easily made a complete album.

      Now convince me that Dennis didn’t “use” some of the Manson recordings that were locked up in Brother Studios. Yea, that truth.

      Maye McDonald Dennis refused the ugly thing of kicking Brian out of his group. Even Carl was kicking Bri out!! Of course Mike who got money from Brian’s gifts. I guess he didn’t understand anything of Brian’s progress. Good Vibrations is something else he imagined Now he collects money by Brian’s songs Disgusting.

    Dennis was not only a wonderful music talent, but 1:40 shows he had tons of sex appeal. My goodness, he was gorgeous, wasn't he? He was truly blessed with everything a man could have in this world, but it's sad how self-destructive he was. If he had lived, I think he would've gone on to produce more wonderful music. All the Wilson brothers were amazing talents & Brian still is.

      Listened to Dennis’ interview on Brian for a 2nd time attentively. And i was again amazed. D. talks of his big brother so beatifully and with such loving understanding, that i haven’t heard such talk before from anybody ever (including) all kinds of people everywhere. He left all, his main concern was Brian’s health and welfare.
      And understands mental illness better than many pros. And says that he and perphaps others in the band wanted Brian getting better only because he loved his music. Dennis speaks with such serenity and kindness as he were
      a really good, caring psychiatrist. And of course praises his intelligence. Like a different man. So genuine, as if the wild, rocker, the beach boy, the charmer etc. were all absent hidden somewhere. Here is talking a humanist,
      a caring and loving, wise man. -i am going to listen it again several times. It is worth it. If i start to cry, i cry. I guess he really knew what love is in practice.
      And what did we do, when he was in great pain and misery?

    • @mayemcdonald9111
      @mayemcdonald9111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Olli Paavilainen Nice comment. I feel Dennis may have had his own mental health issues and as such he was an empath. He genuinely loved both of his brothers. Dennis is honest and that is why I admire him.

    Very sad. I grew up first really close to Hawthorne longggggggggg ago, though just a tad younger than 'the boys'. It was very cool (after parents moved us to the beach when the State was going to build the 105 right past our little house) to hear our new hometown's name mentioned in one of the BB's songs...When I was flying home after Christmas 1983 back to HB, back in those days they gave you string earphones to listen to the radio through the armrests, I found a station playing "In My Room" - just as we were flying over Marina Del Rey, and I thought of Dennis. When we landed at OC Airport, turned on my car radio, I heard that Dennis's body had been found next to his boat in MDR. I calculated that the exact time 'In My Room' had been playing, he had been dying. Very sad. Very sad life. Sad for his children, sad for him. Sad waste. When I hear their music, I'm 16 again south side of HB pier.....homesick...…..

    I swear, it always seems like the best artists move straight on from what they're doing before they even finish it, like what Gregg Jakobson describes here. It seems lucky somehow when somebody pushes a person like that into actually finishing their stuff and putting it out. I've worked with people who are a bit like that.

    • @lookmil107
      @lookmil107 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gregg Jakobson was attributed to writing certain songs so that he would receive a stream of royalties as payment for his testifying, instead of Dennis, at the Manson trial. Manson and the girls never got to present a “defense” at the trial, but Manson alway said one of the first people he would have called to the witness stand was Dennis Wilson…..fact.

    I was around during this period. The song "holy man" was not in 1974, when recorded was not named "holy man." Gregg appears to want to create something that Denny did not think about. Song was called Moog Riff, along with three other taped riffs. Gregg just wanted to get something going where nothing was for 40 years.

      Wait a second. You don't know the Wilsons nor Mike Love and you have no idea what their relationships were like other than what you are told by other people. The Wilson brothers are did a lot of drugs and booze which can be a turn off to anyone who is trying to work and earn a living. Has Mike done some things that make him look like an ass - yes. But I also know I really don't know the truth behind the scenes.

      Cass Elliot, Steve McQueen and Bruce Lee were all silenced for the exact same reason Dennis Wilson and John Lennon were……and many more who the public was unaware of. I'm not saying that Dennis' songwriting talent is because of DNA. I'm saying that he developed as a songwriter because of the environment he was in. Brian and others encouraged and helped him develop his craft. That's what most of us don't have, to be in the midst of so many creative people who also happen to be encouraging and helpful. I'm saying that without that environment it's unlikely Dennis would have been in the music business at all, let alone the songwriter he developed into.

      Brian was present when POB was done. He refused to interfere. He said Dennis is a genius...Brian probably can’t listen the album, too painful i guess. How brutally the other guys kicked him out. Even Carl who was envy. They needed him, Capitol needed, we missed. See how he is confident in the studio with The Wrecking Crew. They respected a producer who knew exactly what he wanted.

      @@cazgerald9471 Being around creative and talented people does not always make you better. What Dennis did was already inside him - it couldn't be taught although yes he certainly could have learned from watching Brian. What he could not learn from Brian is what Brian heard in his head. The VISION. That is something you either have or you don't and you do not normally get to learn that. I agree that he might not have been in the music business without Brian but that's totally getting off the subject. Many artists got lucky breaks or happened to be in the right place at the right time.

      @@elizabethmcleod246 Yeah, it's too complicated of a scenario to blame Dennis. He has been blamed for Manson being introduced to Terry Melcher which is not altogether true and a myth perpetuated by armchair experts on the Tate-La Bianca murders. Before he met Manson, Tex Watson had lived with Terry Melcher for a couple of months at the Cielo Drive house where Sharon Tate and five others were murdered. Tex was a wig stylist and salesman in a posh wig shop in Beverly Hills where he often encountered famous folks in Hollywood and rubbed shoulders with celebrity types from all branches of the media establishment from music and film to sports heroes. He knew Jay Sebring the man who premiered men's hair salons that catered to the stars. He moved out of the spare bedroom Melcher let him stay in after he rented a nice apartment where he moved in in a popular model who became his live in girlfriend. He drove a fancy high dollar Porsche sports car, wore stylish threads, sold pot, cocaine and hash on the side, and he partied with the stars including Sebring and his former fiancé Sharon Tate and her fiancé Roman Polanski before they were married over a year before they moved to the Cielo Drive house. Film footage of a party held at the house while Melcher lived there shows all of these people including Greg Jacobson and Dean Martin's daughter who was later briefly caught up in the Manson Family scene at Spahn's Ranch. At that same party the film footage reveals the presence of future murder victims coffee heiress Abigail Folger and her off-and-on again, ne'er-do-well drug dealer boyfriend and fledgling scriptwriter Voytek Frycowski (who was a childhood friend of Polanski in Poland where they both were Holocaust survivors as mere tots) who were killed along with 8 &1/2 months pregnant Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring on the orders of Charlie Manson by members of his so-called Family led by Tex Watson who not only had been to the house, many times, he knew everyone there that died that night (having partied with them and had often bought drugs from Voytek) and knew them all very well - except for teenage Steven Parent who had visited the caretaker at the Cielo Drive property William Garrettson briefly that evening in hopes of selling him a clock radio and was murdered simply because he was on the property per the orders of Manson, "Kill everyone there!" Dennis had nothing to do with that.
      Some claim Dennis introduced Tex to Charlie and others claim Dennis introduced Charlie to Terry Melcher. Both may be true and both may also be a myth. The truth is Melcher and Dennis both knew Tex Watson and all of those people were all rubbing shoulders at other parties around the same time at parties in Laurel Canyon at the homes of Cass Elliott and John Phillips of the Mama's and Papa's where Charlie was often seen and heard singing his songs and playing his guitar around the pool with rock greats like Neil Young and others who were impressed by his music. Dennis picking up two of Charlie's girls hitch-hiking (Susan Atkins and a girl called 'Yeller') got him involved with Manson right away. Dennis partied with the girls that night and then left them at his house to go to the Beach Boys recording session at Brother Records studios where the band was working on a new album. When he returned home he found Charlie and his girls had moved in. Ironically, along with Tex Watson who had a few weeks prior lost his job at the wig shop, as well as his fancy sports car which he could no longer afford - which had been repossessed. He had also been evicted out of his apartment and his live in girl friend had left him. He had basically lost everything he had including his stylish threads and his fancy celebrity friends. He was homeless for all practical purposes - then he met Manson and Charlie saw him as putty in his hands. Charlie sent him to buy drugs (MDA) from Voytek who sold him some bad dope.
      Dennis took a song that Charlie wrote and changed the title of it and changed the words some and then put his name on it as if he had written it. Melcher had half-heartedly promised Charlie a record contract pending the turn out of demo recordings Charlie made and then Terry had blown Manson off telling him he didn't have any music that he considered worthy of his time to produce. Dennis had also taken Manson to Brother Records (located at Brian Wilson's home!) and introduced him to Wilson brothers Brian and Carl and the rest of the band. They allowed Charlie to cut some demos there as well (which were not part of Melcher's prospective Manson recordings) which nothing ever came of. Brian's wife Marilyn was so furious at Dennis for bringing Manson to their studio, their home, and their property that she threw Dennis and Manson both out and told Brian if Manson ever came back she would divorce him and take their children where he would never see them again. Manson was pissed off at a lot of people he was looking to as a vehicle to make him famous and rich as a recording star. But he didn't go after Brian or Marilyn for being ejected from their home nor did he even go after Dennis for ripping off his lousy song which Dennis put his name on. He didn't go after those people or even Terry Melcher who reneged on his deal to sign Charlie to a record contract - he KNEW Terry had moved out of Cielo Drive and was living in a house in Malibu his mother Doris Day had given him as a wedding present after he announced his engagement to Candace Bergen. Manson had stolen a small telescope off the rear deck of the back patio which he later showed Greg Jacobson and told him to ask Terry how his telescope was working.
      No, Manson went after Voytek who was staying at the Cielo Drive residence with his estranged girlfriend Abi Folger after he had burned Charlie on a drug deal he had sent Tex Watson to buy some MDA which turned out to be no good. Manson had been to the Cielo Drive house on several occasions. The first time with Melcher and Tex Watson who drove him home and he allowed Tex to borrow his car to take Manson back to Spahn's Ranch where Tex lived as well. Manson had shown up later looking for Terry and the home owner Rudy Altobelli informed Manson that Terry had moved - which he already knew! He showed up at least once more and knocked on the front door which was answered by Sharon Tate's photographer Hatami (last name escapes me at the moment) who talked to Charlie as Sharon several months pregnant looked on from the hallway as he told Charlie that Melcher had moved. To Manson that house had come to represent success and wealth along with fame and the power that comes with those things. Manson was seething with anger and vowed to get revenge. But he did not lash out at Terry whom he knew exactly where he lived. He also knew where Dennis lived and had even sent him a bullet with his name written on it to scare him. What drove him over the edge was a dope deal gone wrong with a guy named Voytek who wasn't even an American citizen. Enraged he sent Tex to murder everyone at the house as an example in order to start his race war he called Helter Skelter which he preached to his followers claiming an ethnic cleansing had to happen with the back race rising up against whites. In truth the murders that night at the Tate residence was most likely a copycat crime aimed at freeing Bobby Beausoleil who had murdered musician Gary Hinman only a few days earlier after claiming he had also burned them on a dope deal. Manson cut Gary's ear off and Bobby and some of the girls tortured him to death because he would not or could not give them any money. Bobby was caught driving Gary's VW and had a knife in the car with Gary's blood on it as well as on his clothing.
      Incidentally Tate house murder victim Abi Folger had also crossed paths with Manson and his girls as early as 1967 in Haight Ashbury where he lived in an apartment with several girls including Susan Atkins who were all pimped out by Manson as street walking prostitutes in order to pay the rent - all of whom were treated at the Free Clinic only a few doors from the apartment. One of the volunteers at the clinic was one Abigail Folger who treated Manson and all of his girls including Susan Atkins for VD several times. The Dr. at the clinic would prescribe the medicine and Folger who had training as a medical assistant in the Peace Corp administered the antibiotics to treat their repeated cases of Syphilis and Gonorrhea. Paper work from the clinic reveals Folger signed off on their treatments over two dozen times before Manson and his girls would flee to Los Angeles where Susan Atkins would later stab Abigail over two dozen times on the poolside lawn in the back yard at the Cielo Drive residence. Dennis had little if anything to do with any of that. He was just another cog in the wheel.
