Leave it to the British to make the best documentary about a Beach Boy.

I grew up listening to The Beach Boys. My mom was a huge fan and I became an even bigger one than she. I was only 10 when I watched the news with her that night when they announced that Dennis was dead. I cried, desperately asking my mom how could they ever be The Beach Boys without him. To this day, his story pains me, as do some of the songs on Pacific Ocean Blue. You can hear the pain he felt, that he poured out into his music and it breaks your heart. The world lost something amazing that day, but he will forever be a Beach Boy.

I absolutely DO have someone in my life like this. It is a horrible and sometimes terrifying thing to watch someone you love deliberately self-destruct and you are powerless to stop it. Thank you for opening people's eyes.

I agree. I have a friend age 58 who is a functioning alcoholic and admits he can't control his drinking. He is doing nothing about it. He will crash on the sofa and watch TV, not wanting anyone to bother him. He looks over 70 and can't remember a lot of things. How he does it I don't know.

I don't know anyone who has a heart and soul who doesn't love and admire Dennis Wilson. I can only hope that he is at peace now. We don't always know why some people are taken before their time. Maybe Dennis was put here on earth for a short time on purpose. All of us are really just on "loan" anyways, this(earth) is our temporary home. Brian said he thought music was love and from God and boy was he right. Brian and his brothers have given us all a lot of love sent from God with beautiful music

I saw Dennis on the Strand in Manhattan Beach the last summer of his life. He rasped, “Hey, babe,” the way he always used to. I first met him when I was nine, back in the ‘60s. The neighborhood kids ran errands for the surfers. If you bought Dennis a burger at The Buccaneer, he’d insist on paying on one for you, too. No press. Just Dennis.

I like to remember the Dennis Wilson I was introduced to at a very young age... the Middle Brother & drummer of the The Beach Boys... in the beginning he was so fresh & promising and also a force to be reckoned with, just like his talent... sadly as he grew his demons, pain and torment grew also and I think he just tried to self-medicate to numb the pain from his childhood, young adulthood that he just could not shake nor forget... so many of us know loved ones who struggle and suffer just as Dennis did, but I just wish he could have realized he had so much going for him, but then again UNLESS you've walked in someone's shoes who have gone through similar things, you cannot judge them, you cannot say "they should have shaped up, they should have done this, they should have done that..." We all have fragile hearts regardless if anybody wants to believe and accept that and when that heart finally can't take anymore... people end up taking a different path in life and sadly that path leads to death and in some cases finally the ultimate peace they've been searching for so long... Love you Dennis... so sorry for your pain, but been there & understand it and only hope you are finally at peace...

I met DENNIS WILSON of the Beach Boys in 1979 when I was a doorman at the Troubadour night club in West Hollywood , California - He said "I USED TO WEAR MY HAIR LIKE THAT " Which at the time was my 1950s pompadour hairdo ala Elvis - He had such a raspy coarse voice BUT was nice and friendly ,I can say that I spent one magic moment with a great guy - "Hollywood" Joe Nania

I LOVE Dennis Wilson, Pacific Ocean Blue is a genius album. One of the best Wilson solo albums, save maybe for Brian Wilson's (2004) SMiLE LP. They were all great dudes through and through. Between the struggles and the triumphs, the peaks of their success and the valleys of their personal battles with mental illness, drugs, women, throughout it all they made brilliant music for generations upon generations of music lovers to share and cherish, basking in the sunshine of the aural paradise that their blood harmonies were always able to embody. I was lucky enough to see (with my father) Brian Wilson and Al Jardine (and Band) perform the magnum opus 1966 album 'Pet Sounds' in all its almighty entirety, as well as other songs sandwiched between that eternally divine collection of tunes sent from on high. Carl Wilson was a brilliant soul, and was the glue that kept the band together, the backbone, forever captured in sound with his glorious lead vocals on 'God Only Knows'. We are so lucky to have their art and their music that they made for all of humanity, and they are American Treasures in the purest sense.

Physical and emotional abuse at a young age can manifest itself as substance abuse as a teen and/or adult! Over 90% of people with addictions (alcohol or drugs specifically) aren't masking a physical pain, they're self-medicating to fix emotional pains, I am a recovering opioid addict, trust me I know exactly how Dennis, Carl, and Brian all got to where they got to! He was in Hawaii and begged me to rent one of my three wheelers. I didn’t recognize him and his handler told me he was Dennis Wilson. He looked like Charles Manson! I reluctantly let him take out one of the three wheelers. He smashed it on the reef destroying it. I went up to the Hyatt Kulima bunglo to get him to pay me for my ride. Surprised to see Christy Macvie in tears. I hated to do it but I demanded my money for the three wheeler he destroyed. Few months later he drowned. Sad situation all the way around.

I only met Dennis one time and it was after a show in Rhode Island or Carl's sitting in the backseat with me and Dennis was in the passenger seat up front. 1978. Brian and Mike were in a police car. Carl and Dennis were in another limo Alan and I think a very young met where in the backseat of their own limo. My then girlfriend was secretary for Don Kirschner and manage to get us backstage. All the guys were cordial including the great Ed Carter, but Dennis, aside from being interested in my girlfriend LOL, wanted to talk. Other than telling them how much I enjoyed the show of course, we talked about things like dogs. Dennis was very accessible and real. In 1971, a company in Miami Florida released to 45 of mine which was the worlds worst cover version of the great song by Dennis from the sunflower album, "slip on through". I think he was just being kind, but Dennis said he heard it and liked it. Carl was quiet but I will never forget the experience

In 1980 I started a Beach Boys band at Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland in California. We're still playing today. Our guitarist's uncle pulled Dennis out of the water and called us at our rehearsal studio. I had no knowledge of these chords he wrote or the completion of, "Holy Man". I'm moving to Orlando, working for Disney World Entertainment, and continuing with a new Beach Boys band. "Holy Man" just made the set list.

Took many hospital visits, rehabs, suicide attempts, sanitariums etc. to finally find a solution. For most though, they aren't able to find it. You can't imagine how many people i've seen die of this thing. Dennis was one of them. Shine on you diamond Dennis Wilson.

WOW... Just got done watching the whole biography on Denis Wilson, just so sad it is a shame what drugs and alcohol can do to a body(anyone). I think the awesomeness of the ocean maybe got him started on looking for GOD?? Holy Man, the song they put together, sounds like he was singing to or about God... Rest In Peace Denis Wilson.

Dennis was almost too far gone for detox help at this point. He reportedly would have seizures triggered by periods of withdrawal so he had become so dependent on alcohol that it would threaten his health NOT to be drinking. Sad sad case.

I never knew this much about Dennis Wilson before. All the band members are overshadowed by Brian. It was good to see that he had talent as a singer and song writer. And I never knew that he had so much creative drive, not unlike his brother Brian.
One thing that was glossed over here was the fact that Brian used studio musicians for some of the band's best work. It's well known now that the "Wrecking Crew" was instrumental in some of their best work. It has been said that Dennis wasn't interesting in studio work and was hanging out at the beach while Hal Blaine filled in. I wonder if that was the truth or maybe Brian thought that Hal Blaine was just a better drummer and wanted him doing the session work and, I also wonder how Dennis felt about it.
We're all familiar with Brian's story of unhappiness and degeneration, it appears the Dennis had some of the same demons to fight. Probably, their father's upbringing of them being the main source of their problems.

Does that make his talent any less amazing? His songs less valuable? His death less tragic? No. It really doesn't. For me, it actually makes it more sad, to see someone who could've had such an amazing life and future ahead just waste away in life.

He had his chances and blew it, but don't we all. Im hoping he and Carl are in heaven waiting for us...One thing that does puzzle me is at the end why didn't Brian and Carl buy him a house to live in, maybe not a mansion in Beverly Hills but some house somewhere? Maybe Dennis didn't want help..RIP DW

justmadeit2 When I was a girl, Dennis surfed near my house. I was one of the kids he asked to go buy him a hamburger-and he’d insist on paying for a burger for me, too. That kind of generosity was characteristic of Dennis.

He was a gentle soul. And very caring. About the 4th time I met him, I had traveled, alone to another state. He was very concerned for my safety especially. going home. Imagine my surprise when a few days later I pick up my phone- and It's Dennis! He wanted to make sure I got home o.k. I had never given any of them my phone# or address. Still don't know how he tracked me down. But he did- that's the kind of guy he was. I still miss him

Jim Morrison was the same way as Dennis or vice verse. 20/20 hindsight this all you want. It was his destiny to be a cautionary tale. It sounds like, when they found his body in the fetal position in the water, that he just let go..gave up...the burden was just too much. I dunno, but that part was a bit strange and deeply sad
