FAMAE SG542 .308 Semi-Auto Chilean Rifle Hands On aka "Sig SG 540"

- I spent some time shooting the "biggest brother" of the FAMAE family of guns: the .308 542 model imported by ERE Systems.
It's surprisingly light for a .308 gun. While the Swiss Arms may have been the "tank" of the .223 world, the FAMAE is definitely the "scout" of the .308 semi's I've handled. Compared to things like XCR-M's, SR-25's and MR308's its a much lighter overall gun.
Optics mounting is interesting on these. They have a bracket for a pic-rail that essentially expands between two parts of the upper receiver to lock it down. It's certainly not QD, but you definitely don't have to be a gun-smith to install it.
I'm definitely considering one of these as a personal rifle and am hoping to do some accuracy tests on one in the future. This is non-restricted and would make a great big-game rifle.

En Chile esos fusiles son automaticos, aunque los usamos en semi-auto debido al poder de fuego del calibre (disparo continuo en automatico no permite tener muy buena punteria)

SG 540 and SG 542 are Swiss and are only manufactured in Chile, under Swiss license to FAMAE for the Chilean Forces.
red36825924 and taurus of brasil is making chilean fire weapons by license.. but with very but quality, never near of famae's manufaturings quality!

recuerdo que cuando lo dispare en mi servicio por primera vez , me dejo un pitido en el oído por algunos segundos , si no lo posicionas bien golpea bastante fuerte pero aparte de eso un buen arma .
The safety is ambidextrous! The bolt release is on the left hand side though, so I'd be racking the charging handle with your right hand as part of a reload. Brass kicks out similar to a swiss arms!

I hear that! I'm not an M14 guy personally, but it seems to dominate most Canadian .308 conversations.

Why didn't you shoot some targets, all you proved is that the rifle will fire. Even a hint of the accuracy potential would have been more interesting.

Was that the smaller brother in .223 next to you at the range?
How did the build quality feel? You said it's light, any idea if the barrel is chrome lined or not?

25 yards accuracy tests for a .308 aren't going to say much I'm afraid. I've been promised a chance to take them out into the wilderness for some real distance work, but I'm still waiting on that! Sorry!

Nope! Swiss design made under licence by FAMAE of Chile for Chilean armed forces. Manurhin did the same in France for a short time.
