How's the Aviary coming along? I haven't seen anything about that in a while. Also you can save that chicken manure that you're getting out of the omelette and let it accumulate in something and use it in your garden.
Good idea but it has to mature otherwise it is too hot for most plants. But otherwise it is some of the best natural fertilizer you can possibly get. Oh, I just recalled, when I worked for a nursery we cooked the chicken manure with dirt to make a very fertile mixture.
@@Silverdawnable I had no idea that was a thing, they always seem/are portrayed so calm. but I don't know a thing about animals lol I just love watching!
The video has been great to watch! I found it's super easy to clean if you put old newspapers in the dropping tray because wood shavings sometimes blow away. My chickens don't like the ladder that comes with the cube so I built them a "normal" chicken ladder out of an old plank
that is exactly what i did and i love it!! got all the goodies plus the large run ...put a permanent tarp for a roof and my chickens have enjoyed it for yrs so far!
@@SanderBauwens I have a wooden coop for my flock of 15 banties, similar in size and after 5 years it's still in good condition. I paid around $200 for it. It's 2 story and complete with slide out poop tray, lol!
Sander Bauwens I’m not disputing whether they are made well or not, they clearly are and that’s what makes them the price they are, but personally I would not pay that price for their products that are too small for my liking. I would much rather pay for something wooden that is twice the size and may have to be touched up here and there every couple of years. If they were a bit bigger, then I would 100% justify the price because clearly a lot more thought and effort goes into them than your general coop or hutch! ☺️ (a rabbit hutch by them is nearly £500 for me and it is barely enough room for the rabbit to even move round in. A rabbit should have no less than three hopping distance for the length of their cage, there’s looks like it could only fit one. For that price you could buy a very well made two-story custom hutch with a 7ft metal run... just some perspective on omlet’s prices..)
I've always felt like it is much more practical to make something yourself anyway. We have a 8 by 8 by 8 coop and it was mostly wood we already had plus a few extra 2 by 4s and plywood, maybe 50 dollars tops and big enough for dozens of free ranging chickens. It is very sturdy too, all wood but it should last at least 10 years. I have looked at omlet's guinea pig cages too, and it looks as though they could chew on the plastic. Our guinea pigs will eat anything and everything plastic, so we really have no option other than a metal and wood cage. Definitely overpriced compared to other options, and not the most realistic either.
I saw this video 3 years ago and 3 days ago I got my first chickens and tonight I’m ordering my omelette door and light system for my new coop. 🎉thanks for being an inspiration for the last 3 years.

Hello from Australia. The emus in the wild I have seen are in the outback and country areas which can be in drought many years at a time. It could be it is not instinctive for them to be in large amounts of water. Lots of birds use dirt as dust baths and water is just for drinking. Love your work by the way. Love and best wishes to your beautiful family.
Love my Eglu! I have 4 Barred Rocks and they do very well in a set up similar to yours, big walk in run with Eglu attached. Only it is very hot here in Texas, so the entire walk in run is covered with a tarp.
I think you should put paving stones in the emu pool, right where they step in, the whole length of the pool in two rows so they can be like steps in the water. They might feel more secure and not slip around and scare themselves half to death!! God Bless.
Did you really hang your silver play button in the chicken coup? HAHA that's hilarious!!!! God bless your family and have a great summer. Please don't forget to film the wonderful things you're growing this year.
There doesn't seem to be much ventilation in the Omlet coup. I live in the South & we have extremely hot days & nights...my coups have to have a lot of ventilation to help keep the chickens cool. The coup does seem to be the perfect size for bantams :)
What an awesome little chicken house for your little chickens! I hope you all enjoyed putting it together as a family. Stay safe and healthy y'all. 💚🐣🐔🐖🐂🐓🐝🦃🦆☺
That's really nice chicken coop I really like the way it's set up where they could sleep and then where they can use the bathroom and then when they come out they could eat it's really nice and neat

Absolutely love this channel! You and your family have inspired to start a small flock of my own!! Each video has something new and exciting!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
That is a seriously cool little setup. My wife and I are planning on buying our first chickens this spring (we're in Australia, so in a couple months) and this looks like exactly the kind of thing we're looking for!
Just a suggestion, but you might put some non-skid black tape on the rungs of the ladder. That metal looks too slippery! With their 5 toes, silkies would have a tougher time with that, plus mine never flew well enough to get up that high easily. They always roosted on the lower wider boards I put up for them.
That coop looks cute! It looks like your chickens are landing on the moon in a playskool moon lander. It does look rather small for the amount of chickens, but I've never really owned chickens before, so I guess it's probably fine. Wish I could own chickens.
I considered the Eglu, believing there's some good design features in it but feel they're simply too small in the actual coop area. I also believe those wheels are too small to successfully navigate uneven terrain.
@@SanderBauwens According to Murray McMurray, a very respected hatchery, this is their recommendation for bantams: "Bantams, being smaller, don’t need as much space per bird. This is one reason they are popular in backyard flocks. 2 square feet per bird is adequate if they are allowed daytime forage, so a 4′ by 8′ coop could house 16 bantams. " "We recommend a minimum of 5 square feet per bantam if they are kept confined, so a 5′ by 10′ coop could contain 10 bantams. " The dimensions of the Omlet coop is 3'3"L x 3'1"W x 2'2"H. I could not find any information on bantam headroom. Bantams average 9"-12" which means they have about 14"-17" headroom in the Omlet.

Can I ask what kind of repairs you've had to make?
That coop area seems rather small, the chickens are probably wanting to go to the laying area just for space even if they aren't laying.
They were just exploring the new coop... once they figure out the layout, they'll roost in the correct space.
