    I saw many videos that said you should get them used to their hen house first.
    Not the run. Anyway,,,love your chickens.

      Thanks for the comment! Yes, we heard that too but the chickens love to run around the run and forage for bugs :)

    I'm hoping to have a few chickens and an Eglu cube within the next year. Thank you for your videos, your set up is just lovely as are your girls, Anna, Princess and Elsa! 😊 I can't wait to receive my copy of Fresh Eggs Daily, which I ordered this evening at your recommendation. Keep the updates coming! 🐔🐔🐔

    Currently building a dust bath after following your guys’ setup!How has the dust bath bin worked out for your chickens? Is the box height too high or not high enough, and can they get in when the bin is under the eglu?

      It works great when the chickens learn to hop inside! We don’t put it under the coop because we are afraid they won’t have enough space to get it in though. But you can try and let us know!

    Very good video. What breed are your chickens? I understand that the smaller breeds are perfect for the eglu coops. Thanks

      We have a buff Orpington, silver lace Wyandotte, and a barred rock. Pretty common breeds and the buff Orpington is probably close to 8 pounds!

    Do you have a method for cleaning your run to prevent smells? (Ie scooping it out as you see it, deep litter composting system, etc)

    • @practicalorganicliving
      @practicalorganicliving  ปีที่แล้ว

      The omlet eglu doesn’t have a deep tray so we can’t do deep litter method. But we do fill the tray with shredded paper (used to use pine shavings) and there is absolutely no smell!

      Got it! Do you ever have to rake out the wood chips underneath the coop or add more carbon on top? The run space seems so small for someone to be able to comfortably get inside to clean.

      The wood chips decompose quickly underneath. I think the chickens taking dirt baths underneath contributes to that. We do go into the run from time yo time to scoop up the top layer and dump it into our garden beds to avoid buying bagged soil :)

    how did you teach the chickens to return to the coop at night?

    • @practicalorganicliving
      @practicalorganicliving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We lured them in with grubblies treats and then closed the doors. They learned quickly after that!

    What do you have on the floor of your run?
