This looks like I'd have absolutely loved it, if it came to the UK, back then. There were so many great Japanese only games, back in the late 80's and early 90's that really deserved a translation.
There was a U.S. version of this in the local arcade many years ago. It had no documentation on how to play the game. The volume was so low, you couldn't hear the sound effects. I didn't even know this game had music. The music played here certainly isn't from the movie. It disappeared after two weeks.
This game was in the corner store in my grandparents neighborhood and it deserves top 10 best arcade games of all-time. RPG elements like a store and different upgrade paths, two different characters to play as and top-notch graphics and sound.

The player also seems to be performing a trick; when he has only one life left in reserve and runs out the clock, he earned a million points at that instant! Seems like if he timed it just right and struck the boss just as time ran out he would get the points for killing her yet also get a timer over. Thus another chance to kill the final boss and get the bonus points for killing her again. He only managed to pull the trick off once on his last to final life, so his first couple of attempts were indeed just a waste of time.

The soundtrack is beautiful... especially the Ending/Credits music. (Did anybody cry with the latter? Because I did. Don't judge me, it's sounds sad at the beginning but gets totally upbeat at almost the end. =-=)

It was released in USA first, the last words at the ending are voiced in English (which may give you a hint.), though the words are in Japanese.
