This bologna brought back good memories and bad memories when I was first married at 16 we didn’t have much money because my husband was making $.75 an hour as a baker and I was making $.50 an hour as a nurse aide we would buy a roll of that bologna and a case of vegetable soup and we called that we are eating healthy. We got our vegetables and meat that’s all we could afford, but it taught me to get through tough times and know I am blessed

Bologna isn’t cheap where I live anymore in western NC in the smokies! A right expensive!

We must be about the same age. After high school, I moved to the big city and lived in the YWCA. All the girls bought cases of canned goods and we traded around. Some of the girls could cook and we all chipped in for good meals on the weekend. Some of my happiest memories.
They taught me how to sew too. I later on went to college and became a teacher but I never learned as much as I did being poor and living at the Y.

Bologna isn't cheap these days. We love fried bologna sandwiches. Sorry many in your family were sick for Thanksgiving and not able to share it with you Ms Lori and Mr. Brown. I pray that they are doing much better. God's speed.

YEARS ago, a bunch of us were sitting out on the back deck in the summer and a "discussion" came up on the best BBQ sauce. I happened to have around 5 different sauces in the fridge. So I did a blind taste test for the people on the deck. Guess which sauce won? Yep, Sweet Baby Rays!!! Thank you Mr. Brown!

I am a baloney lover since childhood. I went through my entire time in elementary school with a bologna sandwich every single day! I refused to eat anything else. I was always made fun of for my fondness of it, (in school & home) and still love it. This is on my shopping list now as it looks like a fun way to spice it up! Thanks Mr. Brown 💙

My dad used to make fried bologna sandwiches but only if my mom was out of the house. I supposed they were a lot like hot dogs . When my mom would get home she could still smell the burnt smell and fume about it. She is still a perfectionist at 92.
My dad too ,and he would throw it on the electric burner ,she would get So mad when she got home and saw the burner !

That looks so delicious!! My dad used to get the whole bologna and covered it with grape jelly and put it on the rotisserie grill. I like your way of cutting it into steaks. Will have to try that! Thank you for sharing!

About 20 years ago an elderly neighbor (now passed) made SOS with bologna (instead of chipped beef)...you wouldn't think it, but, it was one of the best meals I've ever had...

It stands for shit on a shingle lol. I grew up eating this as a kid. Would make it with dried chipped beef (extremely salty) in a milk gravy then served on toast. Or if ground beef was on sale mom would make it with cooked up ground hamburger in a peppered milk gravy. Helped stretch meals during tough times or when pinching pennies. Both of my parents grew up in military families and grew up eating these meals as well. Another fave summer meal is fried tomatoes on toast covered in milk gravy with steamed corn on the cob. We would eat that after a day out in the garden and doing our yard work.

back. Being the oldest of 14 we grew up fast, thank God for my children, 2 live here in NC where I live... Some days are still hard, especially the holidays, and I go visit him quite often at the cemetery...but you 2 have helped me so much...thank you.

Love this since a West Virginia friend made this on a grilled bun with coleslaw, at our Summer place, years ago I have always loved fried bologna, but grilling makes it even better.🙋
I was in Charleston in the 70s. There was a little take out shop that made bbq balogna on big biscuits. The bars closed and he opened. The lines lasted until he sold out. I haven't had it since.

Grew up on bologna and cheese. It was quite the treat on the farm. I made BBQ bologna a lot for our kids.

What?! Get some thick cut bologna and fry it nice and brown. I usually cut the piece in half before frying, so that it doesn't bubble up in the middle. I like it on white bread with mayo.

Had a good laugh, my brother in law used to call it Seminary round steak. If you make again try putting a pat of Cowboy butter on it. The recipe is all over the internet and you can customize the spices to what you like. Glad yall had a nice family gathering.

Love Bologna steaks my mom and dad would charcoal them, then take boil eggs and toast up the bread and then mayonnaise place meat sliced boil eggs and it was delicious!!!!!! Some cherry pellets mixed in with the hickory would give it a sweet flavor! LOVE fried bologna with a thick sliced onion with some tomatoes and lettuce! Perfect sandwich! Might just put this on the menu for this week! Haven't had one in a long time!

I have never heard of smoked bologna before but it looks really good. My husband and I were both down with the "flu" for Thanksgiving. I lost my smell and taste and I missed that good ole Thanksgiving food. My son promised to make some turkey and dressing when my taste comes back. It's starting to and I can't wait. You all have take care and hopefully Christmas sees us all a lot healthier.
