    Soooo I’ve been a carrier for about 5 months jobs cool, but the thing that sucks is that most people get up at 6am to get ready and get to the office by 730-8am then you work your 12 hours get back to station at 8 but really leave the station to go home around 830pm go home shower eat sleep and repeat for 6-7 days a week. You don’t really get any free time to enjoy life.

      100% correct. A few years ago, the pay was good enough so that you could barely tolerate it. Now, other jobs that are not nearly as stressful have competitive pay. New workers who get treated like garbage simply won't take it and tell managers to pound sand.

      Please don’t be mean, I’m sure everyone is trying to do what they can. You would think it’s an easy job, at least that’s what I thought till I actually had to carry mail myself. I was shook to my core the first few months. Learning the names, routes, dealing with disgusting attitudes, literally walking miles a day. It’s not easy. Current mail employee, you people need to understand that there’s new hires and majority of these routes are HARD to learn at first it takes months sometimes to get them down. You encounter rain, heat, dogs, mean customers. Sometimes y’all make our days so hard. Be kind and patient. we don’t delay the mail on purpose. Yes there are bad apples in the bunch but not all carriers are bad. There’s only so much we can handle.

    • @JLG35X
      @JLG35X ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ex mail carrier here, hope you don't mind answering some questions.
      1. Are new hires still considered part time employees until someone retires, even if they work 40+ hours?
      2. Are they still bouncing new hires from rout to rout constantly instead of letting them case and do the route for at least a week so they can learn it faster?
      3. What is the current situation if the mail for a route will cause the carriers to be late, is overtime allowed outside peak seasons?

    • @rixygutierrez
      @rixygutierrez ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JLG35X hey!! 1. Yes they come in as “Part time” although if you have a big office you don’t work part time hours. It’s funny cause in my office after peak season like Jan- April I literally was part time. I was only working 20-25 hours a week. That’s pretty unheard of for other places but in my office they run shiz pretty smooth, the carriers aren’t hurt or sick or out. So there was a time I was fighting for hours. But to answer the question Yes you come in as a Part time.
      2. So I guess in bigger offices where there’s for example 20 city routes they try to keep you on one specific route so you can learn but in those offices carriers go on leave or call out so it’s on the cca to get on a new route. In my case there was 12 city routes I knew 10 of those. They bounced me around so much it took me a while. (I’m just a slow learner haha)
      3. If that office has a enough people like mines did then you help that regular by taking 1-2 hours of mail off of them. And as a cca you do that for about 2 carriers so that gives you about 5 hours of work since you don’t have an assigned route.

      Its very circumstantial but it can happen.
      1. He might be being cheeky and actually refer to when you first hit your post office for the first few days and are still in training. Technically not wrong but shouldn't count.
      2. He might also mean sending another (or several, even more rare) to help with a rout. I mean, no you are not going to walk together to deliver to the same houses or individual apartments, but you can for example split the mail at an intersection, or even have one person drop regular mail while another does packages.
      3. Similar to number 2, if you have a large apartment complex and you are running late you might have more than one carrier deliver. I've both seen and been a part of this happening with more than two carriers, kind of joked about making it a party. Keep in mind that with elections and holidays, the mail gets insane.

    The postal service does have a hiring shortage but they have an even bigger new employee retention issue. New employees right out of Academy training being severely over worked, with little to no time off for weeks at at a time, on hands training is insufficient do in part to understaffed postal facilities, many new hires quit within the first few days or weeks on the job, some hang in for a few months, but more often than not many get fired within the 90 day probation period where the postmaster can fire them just for calling out sick or doing a route a little to slow or having to work unscheduled or unapproved overtime just to get the mail for that day delivered. If they want to retain the new employees, they need to change the 90 day probation period from a time that you can get fired for being to slow do to insufficient training or needing a mental health day off to 90 days training program.
