Fantastic achievement and great video 😊 You’ve inspired us to stop over thinking things and head straight across Biscay in late July instead of coast hopping. You guys are awesome 👍🏻😊😎

We’ve only just moved our (motor 😳) cruiser to the Solent so are learning the ways of the sea. Good on you for your passage to Falmouth. Great experience and seeing dolphins never gets old. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That's awesome! We definitely feel like we're still learning every day 😅 thank you, it felt like a big milestone 😊 hoping for many more dolphin encounters 😍
Sailed from Salcombe in 2000 for the med. But we cruised the coast all the way exploring some fantastic places and some grim ones. Can recommend it rather than a diagonal Biscay rush. Glad we dawdled cos the western Mediterranean is pretty awful and couldn't get out fast enough via the french canal system. Didn't sail west as we had a 27ft Gibsea lift keel and rudder, too fragile and lightweight. Good luck to yous.
Thats an amazing adventure 😁, were hoping to do some diving in some spots in the western Mediterranean. We would liked to have done the inside of biscay but the new visa rules mean we don't have much time and we want some warmer waters 😅. Were hoping to do some diving and exploring of the Balerics before heading to the Eastern Mediterranean next year and the Ionian and Adriatic. 😁
Well done guys !!! that was amazing... you are gaining experience with every trip... loved the dolphins too, magical ! Stay safe look forward to the next episode xx
Thanks so much 😊 we definitely are, learning so much by being out there! Aren't they just beautiful 🥰 can't wait to see them again one day!! Thankss you too 😊 xx
Loved this video!! We’ve just bought our first boat and can only get down on weekends so your videos get us all fired up for a weekend of boat work 🥰 thank you!
Aww thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed 😊 how exciting for you!! Wasn't long ago at all we were doing the same thing as you, it's all gonna be worth it when you can get down more often 😍 good luck with boat work!
The problem would be overfishing, not the method. Bottom dragging at a sustainable rate actually stirs up nutrients and is quite beneficial to the ecosystem. Fishing is one of the most regulated industries in the world and I'm sure it's managed properly in your area. If not, then that's where I would start if I wanted to make a change.
😂😂 absolutely. If we can do it anyone can 🤪 didn't know that's what they were getting. So we should dive for scallops then and sell them then 👀 a good earner for us 😂
Great journey, looked amazing, I have been to Falmouth numerous times and the pasty's are excellent btw. Ill be down in the Solent in two weeks to do my day skipper, never been before but watching your videos it looks great, sailing from Hamble Le Rice Marina. All the best on your journeys.

@@ChasingCurrents it's the first time I've ever seen one used well in context and combination. Loved it. Most envious too, my baby is 300 miles away, she's an engine short of a bloody good sail!
Absolutely amazing, looks perfect weather! Your video editing is also amazing, looks really professional! Great dolphin footage! There always seems to be a lot of dolphins in the bay around Falmouth! Have you any plans to visit the Isles of Scilly before heading off for the Med? It is definitely worth a trip if you have the time 😆
Thank you! It was soo perfect, couldn't of asked for better conditions 😊 wow that's awesome thanks so much for saying! We're still learning and glad to know we're improving 😬 yeahh we've heard that, they were a very welcome sight 🥰 we're keen to get to the Isles of Scilly before we head off, we've had a few friends sail over there and it just looks perfect. Hopefully we'll at least get a few days there if the timings/weather works out 😊
Ah thanks Dennis, so happy to finally be doing it 😁 we updated all the electronics, re did the plumbing, bought a new headsail and some bits of rigging among other things. In the next but one video, we're gonna show all of the upgrades we did before setting sail, Hopefully you find it interesting 😊 thanks again for watching!
So halpy for you both! Looks like it was a blast! Hey Jade, does this mean I have to throw a lock of my hair to the Ocean once we set off? Tell me more about this as I've not heard of that before. Love the Ukulele by the way!
Aww thanks so much 😊😊 haha yes, that's the only way to get the dolphins I believe 🙊 the more hair the more dolphins 😂 the sea will also accept offerings of alcohol and ukulele songs 🎵✂️🍹
Been enjoying your sharing of the performance B&G instruments on deck. I was wondering about the visibility during the day. What's your thoughts on daylight screen performance, so far? So glad your first long crossing went so well and with such great weather, treasure the memory of that trip, because some, unfortunately aren't that perfect...
Thanks Ed, we're actually going to do an entire B&G review after Christmas which you may find useful. So far the daylight performance has been perfect, we've never struggled to see it. It does occasionally get quite hot to touch in the sun though. Yes we definitely got very lucky! To this date it's still the best sail we've had so far, it was a perfect (though possibly misleading!) introduction to overnight passages
@@ChasingCurrents Looking forward to your B&G Review. I enjoy your fresh approach towards describing technical things is a kinda' non-technical, technical way... I also get a kick out of your battles inside the "voids"...Jade is a real "keeper", Brynn ,for all the things she does (Mast climbing and drilling and mounting stuff up there...a lot of men shy away from that!) :) and stuffing herself into nasty innerds of the boat...Don't lose her!!!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed 😊 we're planning to stay in Falmouth (with some short sails around Cornwall, and possibly the Scilly Isles) and leaving to cross Biscay the outside route between 16th -19th depending on weather. Then we'll likely spend the 3 months exploring Spain before the Schengen visa runs out after 90 days. Then it's flying back to the UK for winter, and fly back in Summer, head for Albania/Croatia/Greece 😁😁
@@ChasingCurrents Nice! I guess we'll see you along the way. We're planning to go in 1 go to Brest around 20-25 july with some Northerly's and then time a good moment for Biscay, and from then on slow sailing around Spain. But you live on the boat right? To bad you need to go back to UK for the cold winter.. Greets Vin & Kim
@@sailingheron393 sounds like a good plan! Yeah unfortunately with Brexit it's made it a little trickier :( but there are places to reset it for the year after ( we'll use Albania as the Visa reset point so we can spend longer traveling around Greece/Croatia etc. Thankfully we have parents we can stay with, not happy to be in UK winter though 😅
What kind of drone are you using? Do you have problems recovering it at sea? Loved the photos. Slowly catching up with your adventure. Thanks for sharing!
We have the DJI Phantom 4. Unfortunately we're pretty nervous flying it in general, and haven't flew it whilst at sea! Only at anchor or from land/marina. We've had a few times now where for no reason it's decided to attempt to land in the water and we've had to dive for it or put it on full speed back to the boat, we're slowly building our confidence back up in it 😂 have a lot of respect for people that fly it whilst sailing! The drone shots in this video we're actually taken by our friend who was nearby on land. Thanks so much for watching! All our best, Jade & Brynn
@@ChasingCurrents Ha ha! That’s great! My son and I share a drone, but he says I’m not allowed to fly it from a yacht because he thinks it will end up in the drink! He’s taken some (rather jerky) footage of me on a (charter) yacht, but whilst he was on land! I’m trying to make a few vids, but I’m not very experienced. Yours are great! I’m really enjoying following the story. Good luck to you both!
Definitely try get on a sailboat with someone to see if you like it, it can be so incredible 😍. Also there are lots of sailors that can't swim but are amazing sailors 😉. Thank you for commenting 😊
Hello:) great vid can’t wait for your journey am thinking of doing something similar! Google says ideal cruising length is 35-45ft, what made you go for a 28ft boat? Certainly is a lot cheaper! Are there any limitations to this size that you have to face in your journey?
Thanks so much! We may be biased but we'd say absolutely go for it 😬 it's already brought us so much happiness 😊 it was a few reasons to be honest. Cost was the number one factor, not only cost of the boat, but cost of maintenance/repairs cost of storing in marinas. But also we liked the simplicity of it. We'd never sailed before, and wanted a boat that we weren't scared to learn and practice in. It was nice to just have all the systems straightforward (i.e. manual, not everything on electric etc) so that we could see 'if we pull this, this happens' whereas on some of the boats it wasn't as obvious. We also like that it forces us to live more minimally, we have everything we need onboard - and infact we actually still have empty cupboards we haven't even used 😂 the limitations that we've found so far is how much food and water we can store onboard, would be hard doing something like an atlantic crossing to get enough onboard to last us (doable just not as easy!). And also just the sea state will effect us a lot more. We have to be a bit more careful about what conditions we go out in compared to people with bigger boats. But equally, we've been out in conditions that bigger boats we know have refused to go out in and been fine 😅. I'd say the key if you were to go smaller is to get the right keel type for your journey, a sturdy heavier boat, and what was none negotiable for us was standing head room and a bigger than average (for 28ft boats) galley space as to live in it - this makes it a lot more comfortable to us personally. We may end up upgrading to a slightly larger boat one day, as we do want to sail around the world. But if we don't find ourselves limited on these travels by our boat - we'd love the idea of sailing a 28ft around the world 😬
@@ChasingCurrents thanks so much for your insight!! Really interesting and gives me a lot of hope:) have just finished uni and deciding what to do next with my life… your channel is very inspiring!:) will be watching your journey, good luck!!
@@charlie_robin there's definitely hope 😁 we'd never considered sailing before because we knew nobody that sailed, lived in the middle of England, and figured you had to be rich. We haven't found this the case at all, it's a steep learning curve sometimes - but so achievable for anyone in the right mindset. Hope you do go through with it all and keep us posted 😊 funnily enough, our next video is a finance video! About how much everything cost us and how we plan to finance it all. It doesn't contain all the information yet, but theres a blog if you go to our website www.chasing-currents.com with some of the remote work I do. I'll be updating it soon as well. What did you study at Uni? Is it something you can work on remotely?
Hey! Thanks a lot for the suggestion. We have a 'buy me a coffee' which is a similar concept, but people can just give one off small amounts to support the production :) the link for that is in our descriptions. Thanks for the comment and watching our vids! 👍
We had no sailing lessons before buying the boat, after we'd bought it we decided to do courses - Brynn did his Day skipper and I did my competent crew, both which were 5 day practical courses ☺️
Not sure if you were wearing harnesses. Please do so at all times, especially when on watch (shift!) alone, or at night, or stronger winds. I know someone who came from their off watch snooze, to find his partner was no longer on board. Both very experienced sailors.
…your tether should either be so short you can not go over the side, or long enough to allow you to drift to the stern. On a small boat, that means the long one. If you are pulled alongside at any speed you will be in big trouble, especially with a chest harness, apparently your head gets pulled under, at climbers harness is probably better. When singlehanded I rig a line that is attached to the tether so if it goes tight, it lifts the autopilot off its pin.
We do wear harnesses some of the time, mainly at night, strong winds or when moving on deck. That is a very good point though, we will make sure we're clipped in I think all times when alone on watch going forward- thanks for bringing it up. Our lines are very short to stop us from going over the edge, the last thing we want is to get dragged. Thank you so much for the comment.
I know, I knooow... sails and dolphins and BIG achievements, of cooouurse! ☺️🤷♀️ BUT: Jade with the ukulele!! It's just the loveliest thing! 😄💕

What a nice vid guys, and well done on your trip! What's your plan/route this year?
I’ve always wanted to do this. Looks amazing 👌 I’m so terrified of drowning
@@ChasingCurrents also how are you funding your trip? Am trying to work out how to remote work etc.
Is your Chart Plotter water proof? Would it be worth recessing it into the bulkhead and make clear acrylic cover
Good idea, but it is waterproof 😊
Make a waterproof cover for your autohelm as well.
@@markthomasson5077 that's a really good idea!
Do you have a PATREON page yet? You should get one so people can support your adventure and so you can upgrade your camera gear etc.
Hey! Thanks a lot for the suggestion. We have a 'buy me a coffee' which is a similar concept, but people can just give one off small amounts to support the production :) the link for that is in our descriptions. Thanks for the comment and watching our vids! 👍
@@ChasingCurrents Coffee has been ordered :-)
Ahh thank you so much!! Really appreciate that :)
Nice sea leg..
It was such a lovely journey 😁
Did you have any sailing lessons before or after getting the boat ??
We had no sailing lessons before buying the boat, after we'd bought it we decided to do courses - Brynn did his Day skipper and I did my competent crew, both which were 5 day practical courses ☺️
@@ChasingCurrents OK cheers
Sweet sail! I agree folk should find a sustainable way of life instead of death fishing, doesn't make sense, they'll screw themselves in the end!
It was awesome! Exactly, so many seas are just empty and there's no need for it if fishing was done sustainably - which is totally possible.
We do actually have a climbers harness, so may consider this in the future too. Thats a useful idea about rigging the line attached to the tether 👍
:)
Is your Dad a Bluenose lol ?
Yep 😂
British teeth ...
Funny that, considering we are British it makes sense we have British teeth 🤔
