To me this is the second best Godzilla movie ever made behind the second one. The compositions are painterly Lighting has great contrast. Plot is compelling characters are strong. V.F.X although dated are pretty great

I could see that, although I assume you mean the second best Godzilla movie behind the first one.

It looks like an oddly proportioned tyrannosaur.

For now the plan is to go in order. I'm sure we will cover it eventually.

@@reverseangle Understood. I just figured that since you'd done 1954 and 1984, Shin would be the next best choice to compare them to, since it's the only other film to feature only Godzilla as the villain, and not a direct sequel.

Makes sense. We did *The Return of Godzilla* as sort of a counterpoint to doing *Godzilla (1998),* then decided to just start at the beginning.

I think Minus One is going to be a lot like this. Very serious and somber.

Ripping off Hollywood blockbusters, only with laughably bad style and production value might be one of the trademarks of the Heisei era Godzilla films? Along with hiring random non-actors for any English speaking roles.
A scientist reading children's books to address a national emergency is arguably better than Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, where a spotty highschooler is the nation's leading Godzilla expert in his spare time? Despite the film establishing that G-Force/United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center is a thing, and Godzilla is a well known, longstanding threat. This very Japanese trope really shits me.
Looking forward to the Shin Gojira review in 2033 😉
