- OK, so you've learnt to recognize the top 13 letters... Do you want to see how much you can already read? Work through this exercise made up of words using the letters you learnt in the demonstration lesson.

To become fully literate in Thai, sign up for the full course. It will take a week or so to complete the course, or do it just one lesson (letter) 10 minutes a day over 2-3 months.
Along the way, you will learn to speak Thai correctly, and pick up a vocabulary of around 800 Thai words through the same visual story association methods, without any memorization required.
Once you can read (albeit slowly at first), you will immediately absorb Thai from your surroundings without any deliberate effort. The more you read, the easier it gets, and the more you will be able to speak and understand Thai.
Being able to communicate in Thai is a great way of making good friends and deep relationships with Thai people. Hi all foreigners,
I'm amused when I see many people struggling to learn my language. Keep trying. One day you can speak it and can talk with Thai girls, a lot of them are very cute. Just don't find girl from bad places, eg. bar or nightclub and don't trust them with your money whether how cute and seemingly innocent she is. Thai men and girls are very notorious at cheating and deception.
I don't think I can create an impeccable sentence from just these words, but real sentence would look like this.
คนแคนาดาแปดคนทานเค้กกับแม่มดแก่อยู่นานมาก
Thai don't have space between words, which can be problems for learners. Don't worry. It is not the most difficult aspect in Thai language and you will get used to it soon.
You all will have nightmare when you need to learn how to place correct intonation marks (ie. ่ ้ ๊ ๋), which is the most complex thing in Thai language.

I don't care about talking to girls . I want to be able to speak to my friends. And also because I love Thai language and Thai script.

BTW, I'm aware that my pronunciation is not native "Thai", yours is impressive and you are rightly very proud of yourself.
I'm exaggerating a point in my video: if you THINK in the right way then you can learn to speak and understand Thai fairly effortlessly. No need to study arduously for hours every day or immerse yourself in Thai full time (most of us farang don't have that luxury).

As for the words I selected, these were about the only ones I could find that are interesting yet immediately decipherable after a 10-minute course in reading. I think that's quite an achievement, don't you? In any language, the most useful words or phrases also tend to be the most complicated, such as "itadakimasu" or ..."nakerebanaranaindesu" in Japanese, so one often has to get quite deep into a course before you can understand the grammar behind these patterns.

Hello! I've seen all your videos and I am indeed amazed how fast I can read most (not all) of the alphabet, analysing each letter and symbol carefully. However, whenever I look for some practical example, they all come out with the letters all together. such as this: ผลงานนักวาดภาพประกอบที่เก่งที่สุดในโลก . So my question is: is it that hard to mentally separate them, or is there any faster method for that? Also I would like to have the link to download the ebook, or software. Thanks. You Rock!
i suggest you to remember all the vowels and its position such as...-ะ, -า, เ-ีย so you can put the alphabet in the dash(-) and you will separate words easier.
Somyquestionisisitthathardtomentallyseparatethem.....you can separate this sentence easily, right? Why? And how could you? Same as Thai, first you have to know most of the word in the sentence. There is not much shortcut. Knowledge that some vowel like ใ or โ and many others always come first in a word or at least a syllable and can help you a little.. just a little but in the end you have to know most of the word anyway.

bu how to read without spaces. where does one word end and another begin this is what confuses me the most
easy-peazy, but something I leave for later, once you can read individual words
- there are several clues that you use to demarcate each word, e.g. all the "left-hand" vowels เ แ โ ไ ใ are obviously the start of each word; and ะ ALWAYS ends a word... :)
So, in Thai, you don't need spaces, it's actually easier to read sentences without them!

Yes, you're right! It was quite difficult to find good readable words using only 13 basic letters that would make an interesting sentence. I obviously couldn't use the word เยอะ because that uses a complicated spelling, which we only deal with this towards the end of the course. I also made a slight grammar mistake - too late! It should be คน แคนาดา แปด คน (person Canada 8 people = 8 Canadians), and perhaps a better sentence might have been: คน แคนาดา แปด คน มา ทาน เค็ก กับ แม่มด แก่ นาน มาก :)

Hi fareast, I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt but it does seem you've totally missed the point, it's simply about learning to read Thai, no more :) Anyway, the boy/girl/ladyboy thing only becomes apparent when we deal with the tones in Thai. I thought I made that clear. Some people who can already read come to my course simply to "get" the tones once and for all. I used ladyboys (rather than say, boys, girls and animals as I've done for German) because it seemed appropriate and fun.
as an american can you explain "nail boots" i think its something we dont have!

If you see two consonant letters with no vowel then there is an "invisible" or "default" vowel in-between. It is always the short "o" sound (rhymes with "short" but much shorter, or like the "augh" sound in "naught"). So คน becomes ค + o + น. I don't understand the rest of your question. Sure, not everybody gets it, so be free to change the associative images for yourself. I thought of a sadistic ladyboy wearing football boots with nasty spikes (which had been replaced with Nails). The letter also looks like 96. Straight people like 69, but ladyboys love to be deviant, so they prefer the 96 position better LOL!

Sorry, to understand the explanations and mnemonics you need to know English quite well. You could adapt the course to have Russian mnemonics if you like! :)

This is wrong:
1. That’s not how you write thai all the words are ment to be together there are only spaces between sentences and that makes gramma v wrong and if you learn like this you will never to actually learn to read thai because you won’t get use to having all words together and it would will be hard to tell words apart
2. Your pronounce old wrong correct writing wrong tone Just by alittle it sounds off
In some ways you are right. This video was produced 10 years ago when I had just started developing my Rapid Method. I'm not an expert in the Thai language itself, but I develop ways of learning languages that are the quickest and easiest for foreigners. Of course, I've been learning Thai as I go along at the same time and I've improved dramatically since then.
Secondly, this was just a "teaser" video to demonstrate how you can already start to read simple words in a simple sentence after only watching a 10-minute lesson. It was difficult to find words that only used the 13 letters that were introduced. And I realized afterwards that the sentence order is wrong, but TH-cam doesn't allow you to update/edit a video. It becomes a completely new video. It's no big deal coz the principle is still correct.
Since this video was made, I have developed a mechanism to learn how to read sentences without spaces. There are many clues built into the spellings of Thai words that tell you where a word starts or ends. As you work through the latest version of the course (now version 4), you will learn these clues and be able to read whole sentences immediately after completing the course.
Are you Thai? You probably didn't understand half of what I covered in the introductory lesson or the explanations. But then the Rapid Method is designed primarily for English speakers, or speakers of mostly European/Romance languages. It works very effectively for Hebrew speakers too. Speakers of Asian and Indian languages usually don't benefit from the Rapid Method it seems...

Kind of idiotic. The ladyboy mnemonics just get in the way. And if you're going to teach, why not teach something a person might actually need to say? I know it's to try and make it stand out so it's easier to remember, but you can do that with sentences that aren't a waste of time.

It's a happy accident, I needed three categories (red, black, green / neutral, live, ground / communist, capitalist, socialist, etc.) I was about to use something like the German system of male/female/neuter nouns and then I thought, "hey, it's Thailand - ladyboys are the third sex!" And the rest is history.

Yes, it's Thailand and it's Thai language but you can use English pronounces or names of people or animals instead of the word 'ladyboy' to show the example of English sentences. Nothing wrong or bad being ladyboys but lots of foreigners, especially men don't think of Thai ladyboys in a good way when they heard about them and Thailand as we know and I'm sure that you also know about it. I've heard enough that lots of foreign men firstly think of prostitutes when they heard about thailand. Every country has prostitutes not only in Thailand. So, just avoid using this word often when you teach Thai if possible. Thank you.

What's up with this guy and "lady boys"? The man is obsessed with them. Can you imagine an English tutorial that kept mentioning transvestites?!
no big deal - Thai is like German, which has three genders for its nouns (masculine, feminine and neuter). French or Spanish have two genders, male & female. I started to use the same concept for Thai and then realised that, hey, the third sex in Thailand happens to be ladyboys - and so went down the rabbit hole with that! :)
It turns out to be a super effective way to understand and simplify the concept of tones. The conventional approach is confusing, unnecessarily complicated and actually wrong in a way. For instance there is NO one-to-one correspondence between a "high-class" letter and a "high" tone.
With the Rapid Method, I use state-of-the-art mnemonics to associate the "personality" of the letter's sex/gender with the "emotional" state of the tone... we use tones in English primarily to express emotion, so we already have a natural way of saying the tones correctly.
Try it, Sam-I-Am. It just works. (Oh, as a British guy you probably won't know what I'm talking about. Look it up...)
