    Funny thing about 3000GTs and coilovers, I had a 95’ manual with a dohc motor, dailyed it for like 4 and a half years. But for 3 and a half of those years were on a set of Maxxpeeding rods, then bad boys lasted me through junior year of highschool until i was 20. Best part is I spent 250$ on them and they never gave me a headache, knew guys with 3KGTs on race lands and teins and they were blowing theirs up once a year. I put my name on Maxxpeeding rods now because of that car
    I just wanted to let people know they’re not as bad as they seem, it’s just people who don’t know how to maintain and appreciate cars that make these things seem cheap and unreliable

  • @XiseTK
    @XiseTK 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is actually a very much overlooked third option that gets overlooked a lot. Ground control makes a coilover conversion for aftermarket struts that give you a somewhat in-between coilover and strut/spring combo. Allows for an adjustable spring perch for ride height and you can use it with adjustable dampening struts or not. Allows you to use more road compliant dampers with the adjustability of a coilover. Coilovers are terrible on a daily where I live so I go this route for most street cars I have owned.

    • @arcanevoid9199
      @arcanevoid9199 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the issue with that is when you lower a car you need to up the spring rate to keep it off the bumpstops, factory struts are not valved for increases in spring rates. there is nothing about a coilover that makes it stiff or bad on a daily, it is simply a shock and spring with an adjustable spring perch. if they have terrible ride quality its an issue with the valving and overall design. you can setup coilovers to ride however you like

    • @XiseTK
      @XiseTK 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arcanevoid9199 ground control includes an appopriately rated spring to accompany the perch and you would have to use an aftermarket strut like koni of bilstein b8 if you wanted to lower the ride height.
      Some coilovers come out of the box with spring rates that are way too stiff for a daily driver and others come with more compliant ones, almost no coilovers give ride quality like an oem strut does. You would need to custom order and possibly request special valving for it where my solution provides everything with no special parts and they perform well at the track and give a compliant ride on the street too.
      I have literally setup hundreds of suspensions on both dedicated race cars and street machines/weekend warrior cars.
      Some coilovers are still too stiff for some people even on the softest dampening setting. I always give our customers a little quiz when they are shopping for suspension and depending on what they tell me I will advise them accordingly. I can tell just by what they say if they are going to not like coilovers or not.

  • @Maxst33le

    I think performance lowering springs and upgraded shocks is the way to go unless you plan to constantly adjust suspension. Ive had $600 truhart coilovers before and they rode great looked good and handled well, however over time woth pothiles and other things, the metal spring seat was bending uncomfortably. Ive only adjusted them while setting the car up btw, i wouldve been fine with just lower springs and upgraded shocks for the same price. Also less to worry about since you dont have to measure and allign every corner of the car.

  • @thatslegit
    @thatslegit 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    remember to actually check yourself if lowering a car is a good thing. there is a point where its feels a bit better vs beating on the bumpstops. also invest in roll bars, always makes a much bigger difference

  • @eXclurel
    @eXclurel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I rode my car on bags or 1.5 years and my suggestion would be to just don't. The ride quality becomes so horrible it feels like you have installed bricks instead of a functioning suspension. Just get coilovers. Do not cut your springs, do not get shorter springs, do not get your springs pressed. Get coilovers.

  • @l00tur
    @l00tur 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Best option in my opinion is a cup kit. Get a nice 1.5/2 inch drop, stuff but still compliant for daily usage, won’t blow out like the spring upgrade on the stock strut. A touch less than coilover kit.
    Truth is, so many people running coilovers never get them setup correctly…ever and I’ve seen 100s of setups.

    Sort of. I just got bilstein b8's, which are slightly shorter than my stock shocks, and paired them with lowering springs. It cost around the same as coilovers, but without the mantinence that comes with them.
    I've never had coilovers since i was never interested in suspension, but I have heard people say that you probably don't want them on a daily driver.

      What sort of maintenance do you have to do to a coil over?

    • @UGFluffyTurtle
      @UGFluffyTurtle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @isaiahwilliams5988 From what I've heard and read, it depends on the materials they're made with and how you drive. High-quality coilovers are generally rebuildable and have service intervals. If you track them, you'll have to have them rebuilt more often. Cheaper ones aren't, but they're cheap for a reason. Regular struts are the better choice in that case.
      Fortune Auto has a kit for my car and recommends a rebuild every 60k miles.
      And what this guy didn't mention is that you need an alignment whenever you adjust your coilovers. This is why I never like messing with suspension stuff. I still need an alignment after I swapped my swaybar. 😑

      @@UGFluffyTurtleCorrect me if I'm wrong, there are two types of coilover that i know, one comes with adjustable soft/hard dampening, one is without which is not for daily drive because of the stiffness, I have friends that use coilover with damper adjustment on their car, and they said it is comfortable for daily drive.

    • @UGFluffyTurtle
      @UGFluffyTurtle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @xelkg.j3425 I think I looked into those, but, to me, non-adjustable=oem replacements or "affordable" replacements. Unless you wanna have a drop-in and drive strut.
      I think, when it comes to street, it comes down to spring rates and overall adjustability. I really don't know too much about the specifics of coilovers, only enough to get where i want. A good number of people in my cars community preferred lowering springs, and a lot of people recommended avoiding coilovers on street cars. A lot of people did say air suspension, when done right, is worth it, though.

    Buy H&R springs and pair with bilstien b8 series shock absorbers. Retains nearly factory ride quality and is still cheaper than junk bc coilovers. If you really want coilovers buy once cry once and get the good ones like bilstien pss9 series

    Just buy struts that are either adjustable or made for shorter springs if you want a decent ride for your daily and/or your local infrastructure (roads) are shit.

    Coil overs are cool for like a month, after driving cross country on coils I'm way over it.
    It's the most uncomfortable stiff have to literally watch out for everything.
    Can't even go up a driveway.
    Just use lowering springs you'll thank me

      the issue you are having is with badly setup coilovers, not coilovers as a whole. they still consist of the same shock and spring, they arent special
