And you can set it to always be off until you want it on and then you can just press the button on the controller. You can also hokd the button for a few seconds and it will mute all sound even the sound coming from the tv so you can hear everything around you. Its like a mute button on the tv remote except instead of reaching for that remote you can just hold the button on the controller and make it easier and faster

If no one knows yet, there is a small white line under the PS button. You can simply press it and it will light up orange and that means your microphone on the controller is off👍🏻
To fix it just hold the mute button till it says on your screen that the mic and headphones are muted,now you won’t hear any sound from the controller but you could also switch voice channels depending on which game you are playing

1st, there is a mute button on the controller 2nd you can turn it off by default for every account individually, so you don't have to press it every time you log on 3rd if you hold the mute button on the controller you will mute all audio. 4th. There is a light indicator on the controller that will show you wether the mic is muted or not.

What's worse is the light turns on when you press the microphone button which indicates your mic is muted. It should be the other way around, the light is on when the mic is unmuted. No wonder people forget their mic is on when playing games because of reverse conditioning errors.

The problem is that the default is set to on and you have to turn it off before this happens.
In the configuration menu of the PS5 you can select that the mic it's muted by default... Problem solved.
I ended up doing that, should have been this way out of the box.
