  • In "Introducing Thunderbirds", Lady Penelope and Parker visit Jeff on Tracy Island as part of their induction into the International Rescue organisation. 'Thunderbirds: The Anniversary Episodes' was produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's iconic Supermarionation television series - and made use of all the original puppeteering and practical effects techniques to bring the show back to life, with the help of authentic 1960s voice recordings.
Now available on ITV X and Britbox in the UK and on DVD and Blu-Ray in Japan.

The dvd/blu-ray of the three new episodes were exclusive to the kickstarter backers who made the making of them possible of which I am proud to say I was one. You may be able to nab a copy on ebay if a backer is selling theirs but they dont come cheap. I would never sell mine, my name is on the list of the backers in the special features section of the dvd.

In 2010 I gave my little godsons the complete Thunderbirds boxset. In the first few minutes of the pilot episode they were mocking the special effects. Three weeks later they'd devoured the lot.

I will tell you this - as a 5 year old, this show was THE BOMB! What I would give to still have my "working" Thunderbird 2 model. As was typical of British television, it never talked down to kids and, in fact, educated through the simple explanations it provided around the many scientific principles involved. Just enough to intrigue a young mind without overwhelming them. Hats off to Gerry and Sylvia Anderson AND director Derek Meddings. I hope they knew, and took pride in, the number of children they inspired.

Next best thing would be doing adaptations the stories recorded exclusively for LPs of other Gerry Anderson shows, like Captain Scarlet.
But even then, they'd have to get an okay to do them like they had to do with Thunderbirds to make these, plus, I don't know if the likes of Stingray and Fireball XL5 got that treatment too, or if it was just Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet that had them.

Technically it was never shown. But it was explained how: basically Gordon reverses TB4 back into the pod via the launch ramp, which he lowers into and it clamps into him, then shuts the door. TB2 then lands into the pod, clamps it into the main ship and does a vertical takeoff from the water’s surface

Something that always gnawed at the back of my mind for years until it struck me was those telescopic struts that extend and retract from beneath the wing and seeming disappear up into the engine nacelles.
Apart from the obvious that the length of the topmost of the strut sections could not possibly fit in the space between the bottom of the wing and top of the nacelle, these collapsed struts actually go _through_ the engine itself.
It can be argued that there are no mechanical components there, they extend from just behind the opening and as part of the air intake, it would be empty space. But there cannot be that much empty ducting to supply air to the engine. There has to be part of the engine behind that grille. Even if you contend that it is empty space, then that strut certainly blocks a great deal of airflow at that point given its diameter, not to mention the space taken up by where the actuators would be located to operate the struts.
Sure, it's a TV show, kids show, fiction, but there are small plot holes and then there are big ones and this plot point has a huge over sized strut going right through it.

Not to mention the fact that Jeff states that it needs the ramp to take off due to it being so heavy, and yet not only does it take off vertically using it's jets from the Danger Zone, it uses them when coming in to land, (usually cutting off before actually touching down) and, as seen here, when losing height prior to launching Thunderbird 4... but then just hangs motionless in mid-air!!! What's holding it up??? (apart from fine fishing line 😁) And I am saying this as a HUGE fan who loves the show, but this has bugged me for ages. (I have the same issue with the Falcon in the Star Wars sequel trilogy where they seem to forget it can hover, yet crash lands in 2 of the films.) At the end of the day... who cares, we all love it!

They buried them in a huge pit during the completion party. Torpedoed their boat as they took them back to shore, bricked them up in the walls. Kyrano, Tin Tin and Granny made some nice meals from them. Put them in a special T2 pod and sunk them at sea?
Like what they do with old tunnel boring machines. They drive them past the end point and concrete them in. Even the super rich who buy small blocks in expensive parts of London, for example, to dig down and build 4-6 levels underground get excavators to dig down and after they have finished, it's cheaper and easier to dig an extra 'excavator' sized hole and place it in there, entombing it forever under the bottom floor.

I'm less certain about my biofuel theory now. Thinking about it, watching them blast off, they certainly don't have emission controls on those birds.
And their ground vehicles belch so much toxic looking black smoke... makes me wonder! It's a wonder those model makers and cameramen didn't end up with miner's lung.🤔😆
      But one more thing.
I always get a laugh when they talk about being a 'secret' organisation and how Scott, in particular, got especially bothered about cameras, yet they all went around calling themselves by their real names. Who wouldn't know about the famous astronaut Jeff Tracy, who walked on the moon, became the richest man in the world and philanthropist or about his sons and what they looked like?

As for the black smoke, that's what you got for running on diesel (once called the "clean fuel of the future" if memeory serves). On the theme of fuel, how long did it take to refuel Thunderbird 2 at the nearest petrol station. A bit pricey these days.
