  • After buying a 1977 Pinto Cruising Wagon, I knew I had to reunite it with its big brother - the Ford Cruising Van! So, I enlisted Dave Shuten at Galpin Speed Shop, a division of Galpin Auto Sports, to join in the fun. Check it out!

      I actually had a lemon yellow Pinto station wagon. And what made it very special was it had a constant sent of gasoline. This made for adrenaline filled travel. I'm pleased to say things have changed and I now get my adrenaline from Hemi engines.

    This is a bad ass video documenting a part of Jeff's life long desire! Dave is one hell of a builder and has one hell of a shop. There are a couple vehicles in the background I would love to see more of. Congrats Jeff on having 2 vehicles in your collection that were not only fun to find but fun to build!

    • @ronwilken5219
      @ronwilken5219 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @mrbratt69 I'm with you. There's a red something parked in the row by the wall seen over Jeff's left shoulder at about 18:40 in the video, that means nothing to my recollection but I'd sure like to know what it is.
      Jeff needs to take that van to someone who can sort the underbody, road gear and motor. It doesn't sound bad but it needs "tarting" to go with the rest of the "shagwagon" look.
      I get the feeling that Jeff's mother's anxieties about a 14 year old wanting a shagwagon were well founded.
      Nice paint job Dave though it somehow went a little flat when you removed the blue layout tape. Maybe a blue pinstripe would pop the colours again. Just MHI though.
      Regards from Canada's banana belt.

    WOW the paint work is a lotta lotta work and IS FABTASTIC the way he made the window was some awesome ingenuity ( the hood prop is the most important thing at any point of being under the hood ) the luggage rack is great new carpet was the right idea a spare tire cover is also a good idea will keep the UV from the sun from killing your spare FYI your pinto needs the cam cleaned out it is not oiling properly (rattle) the attention to detail on the van was superb if you live on the road out of a suitcase you should have something nice and a touch of nostalgia never hurts the other great things are no computer to go bad and emissions are able to be grandfathered but restoring something older is always an easter egg hunt thanks for sharing .

After we got married our first three cars were a tan 1964 Impala, a turquoise 1962 Impala, and a two tone turquoise and white 1962 Bel-air, all in the late 1970s. Man I wish we still had those cars!

    You missed it Jeff! When you were talking about the van and the tag, "Gas, Grass or..." you should have shown a cut from "Up In Smoke". You know, the scene where the girl and Tommy are in the van and he gets a cramp in his leg and the van starts rocking up and down, and when they come out, the crowd in the alley applauds.

      that scene was so funny!

      @@daltonmann4916 Yeah. I laugh so hard every time I watch it. Everybody applauding when Tommy gets out and Cheech saying, "Make way for the new king."
      The funniest thing to me about that movie is that so many starched shirt types seem to think it's pro-drug use when in reality it shows what losers dopers are.

    Thanks for sharing Jeff, this was fun. I remember right where one of those Pintos lived nearby where I grew up. Never liked the Ford van shape compared to the Chevy and Dodge but by now, this all is just cool!

      my grandfather used to have a conversion van, was a much later one, a '98 Econoline halfback if i remember right. the company is still kicking around these days, albeit just reselling vehicles, I don't think they've done anything yet with the new Ram Promaster and Ford Transit vans yet
