I LOVE jajamen! My parents often call me over to their house for my help with lifting up heavy items or other hard work tasks they can't handle any longer. As thanks, they often give me a bag of vegetables they've grown in their garden - cucumbers among them, which I always use to make jajamen. I'm always happy to try a new recipe and can't wait to try!

As a foreigner living in Japan (FOR A VERY LONG TIME!), I am VERY happy to see you continue making your traditional/basic (real) Japanese dishes. ~~~~~~~ I grew up in my own country, and had NO (zero) training on how to ACTUALLY make Japanese dishes (Just foreign TH-camrs only teaching their versions, often with many changes - to make their versions "stand out" from the "normal" recipe.) ~~~~~~~ I now have lived in Japan, and have been married for MANY years. I WANT my food to impress my spouse ("Wow! this is even better than my mother makes!") (This is the GREATEST compliment I hope to receive from time to time!) But I don't have anyone I trust to teach me the "proper way" (that is not a relative, someone with very strong personal opinions "their version is the 'best/right' way!") ((AND I do NOT want to ask my mother-in-low -- [she is not actually a very good cook, she was a working mother who just made things "quickly/easily" -- not with any tradition of "good recipes passed down to her from her mother...' ..... [despite "hiru-dramas", NOT every mother stayed at home, while the husband was the "salaryman" and the wife was a "senmon-shufu". Many women/mothers were out there working hard for their money and did not have the time or energy that ideal "dramas" portray -- life is harder than TV shows pretend to be.] ☆[and honestly, many wives did NOT get along with their mothers/mother-in-laws to patiently teach the "right" way to cook things!!! - It is a GREAT image, but it is not the reality o life!] So, I am Soooo HAPPY to find your channel - You carefully explain EACH step very carefully and clearly!!! I feel like you are the 'mother I WISH I had growing up to teach me these things! I was VERY SAD when FRANCIS passed away (I am sure you were very sad too). I was sad for Francis -- (and I was VERY sad for you too) -- I was worried that you would not continue to make these videos... But I HOPE YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH THESE VIDEOS HELP SOOOO MANY PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF THAT ONLY HAVE YOU EXPLAINING THE "Right Way" to do things (with English subtitles). I ate Amaou strawberries at Sweets Paradise here in Osaka a few weeks back. Such delicious and sweet strawberries. That parfait looks delicious as well so I might have to go try it myself.

@@d_xnii You've never lived here, have you??? Unless if you're a buddhist or a radical vegan orthodox, you'll have a very hard time looking for strictly vegan dishes. Shojin ryori is almost exclusive to Buddhist temples. This means that it is not a viable option for the entire period of your trip to Japan, unless you always stay in a shukubo. Of course there are many TRADITIONAL dishes exclusively cooked with vegetables and tofu, but don't delude yourself thinking there are lots of vegan restaurants or Western vegan dishes here. Maybe in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya or Osaka you'll find some tourist restaurants offering those dishes. But do not delude yourself: they are very little tiny shy businesses, not easy to find.

Ducky Duckは学生の頃全盛でした。活動圏の池袋では旧東武プラザ館(現ルミネ)にも店があり利用していたので、懐かしい感じです。
今はあまおうのこんな立派なパフェがあるんですね‼今でもサンシャインには店舗があるので、また行ってみたくなりました。
学生時代よく利用されていたのですね😀書いてくださる情報、知らないことが多くて興味深く拝見しています。いちごのパフェは疲れていたこともあり一人でぺろりと食べてしまいました😅🍓

Unless if you're a buddhist or a radical vegan orthodox, you'll have a very hard time looking for strictly vegan dishes.
Shojin ryori is almost exclusive to Buddhist temples. This means that it is not a viable option for the entire period of your trip to Japan, unless you always stay in a shukubo.
Of course there are many TRADITIONAL dishes exclusively cooked with vegetables and tofu, but don't delude yourself thinking there are lots of vegan restaurants or Western vegan dishes here. Maybe in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya or Osaka you'll find some tourist restaurants offering those dishes. But do not delude yourself: they are very little tiny shy businesses, not easy to find.
