- This is Hotshot.
A 30lb fighting robot based around a jet engine. You might remember the first version of this robot: Flameout. It’s had a huge upgrade, now has armor and a full drive system.
It’s designed to blast other robots away whilst doing lots of heat damage to their internals.
In this fight it got flipped turned upside down and it liked to take a minute just sat right there, and told us how it became the Prince in a cage in Norwalk.
It still needs further upgrades but it’s an assault on all the senses in real life combat.

Sticking a jet engine on a combat robot is the most batshit insane and amazing thing I've ever heard. I love it.
This is why I love this sport! Much more engineering creativity allowed than in ie. F1. All the different designs is the best part, and it does not cost a gazillion to compete 💪😎👌

@@TheStuartstardust engineering around rules is a lot more challenging than being allowed to do whatever you want. Try working as an engineer then maybe you'd understand. Or not. Whatever
@@sepg5084 i guess you see SuperFastMatt with that ending 😁 fun fact - I'm an engineer 😝 Finding loopholes in F1 rules is fun for the engineer to find 0.001 sec advantages, but for the viewer, it's not. My point was just here it is more visible what the engineering efforts end with, for me this is the fun in the sport 🤓😄

We’ll when you take into consideration that the second it center of gravity is affected that jet is gonna throw it off even more all I could think is some kind of vacuum on the underside but that’s probably cheating as harder to flip
@@19thratytt That's all nice but it still ended up on its top from a slight push, and didn't do any damage either so... great work guys with this robot, might want to rethink a few things with your next one. Perhaps swap the jet engine for an axe.
@@leecroft7311 or add a u-shaped bracket that pivots so it can right itself. Odd thinking that it wouldn't ever be flipped over.

Couple of improvements: make the intake for the jet need to go through the bottom so the low pressure creates additional downforce on the vehicle. Throw in some high grip tires and you have an absolute juggernaut of a vehicle that can potentially ram with jet assisted force and be basically immune to being pushed around.
And of course, add a srimech.
Air feed in the bottom could suck up debris (a higher chance than above).
You'd have to figure a way to protect against that.

@@crittergonya small enough particles can still do immense damage to those miniature jet engines, then it becomes a fire/explosion hazzard but then again i dont see why thats a problem if these teams have the money for new jet engines every month. You could achieve a similar effect with a vacuum whilst having much more space to add other defenses/weapons. A jet engine is a cool idea just not feasible here 🤷.
Could also tune fuel/air mixture to make the hottest possible flame with the least amt of thrust

I would build one flat as heck robot to scoop anyone up, and with the help of some rocket powered thursters throw them to the abyss
Or anything that launches a liquid, for example glue.
Or could entrap, like ablative chain armor or nets.

Using a jet engine as a melee weapon on a moving target is the most badass stupid thing I’ve ever seen😂
It needs a self righting mechanism (come on guys the Plunderbird boys made a song about this 20 years ago!) and some way of planting itself to the floor so that it doesn't push itself away when firing.
Could you make this part of a heavyweight cluster bot set where one bot does a grabby and brings it over to the jet engine?
I feel like they could've ducted a small amount of the turbine's exhaust upwards to push the bot down harder. and in case of it flipping upside down, that thrust could've assisted in righting itself
Multibots always suck. Doesn't matter anyway. One hit from a bot with a big horizontal spinning blade on the front and its done.
At that point all you need is a giant hunk of steel that can use electro magnetics to stick to the ground and plow other robots into hazards.

If they manage to keep the other bot and themselves in place for even 10 seconds, it'll be bloody effective

That's the most overkill and stupidest thing I ever saw in these kind of contests. I like it.
Make something that could flow like 200 amps thru another battle bot, melting it and frying any electronics connected to its outer shell.
I think this is against the NHRL rules.
unfortunately, they basically added rules in such a way that only spinners and flippers can be effective weapons. i would be so happy to see electrical weapons.

@@randallsmerna384 they banned simple things like traps and snares. flames are the worst damage dealer against bots. flames are bad at damaging anything non biological in the first place. so allowing flames is not that big of a deal.

at a glance, a second weapon... i.e. a clamp (long holding times allowed, liked 30 seconds so pretty OP), and a make the clamp able to self-right the bot. Those improvements really could make this bot very interesting
I've seen some wild bots in my time but a jet engine is a whole other thing all together

The jet engine on the battle bot is amazing just like the ones that have other more unusual weapons. There was one battle bot that used two hammers and double headed axe. The hammers were on the sides while the axe was on top towards center. All of the impact weapons were strong enough to end most to other Bots in no more than three hits.

If I remember correctly, there are awards for winning the entire tournament, as well as for creativity/how cool your robot is. I would imagine that these guys were mainly going for the latter.

I was there at the fight. It vibrated your chest with how loud it was. It did indeed smell like jet fuel in the building for a while afterwards lol

Any burner based bot needs a clamp or something to hold the other bot while the burner does its damage. A burner by itself isn't too great.
Sounds dangerously fun, as the crowds adrenaline level intensifies!

This was a real vehicle. Somewhere sometime, can't remember the name of the country, they stuck I believe mig 25 engines on a t34 chassis and used it to fight fires. It was a tank with the ass of a jet for a face, and was used to put out oil fires.
Edit: correction, it was 2 mig 21 engines

@@Yourlocalhuman8 It was used to blow away mines, put out fires, de-ice railways, de-ice airstrips, de-ice aircraft... probably to heat food on more than one occasion that the command officer never found out about.

@@bigwheel9132 sticky oil, will stick to the enemy. It will make the enemy unable too get traction, unable to move properly. The key engine will heat and ignite the oil, burning the opponent.

Flamethrowers are epic as hell, but they don't do much damage very quickly. Neither does that jet engine. He'd get more mileage out of a double wedge. Bernoulli sticks you to the floor better, you can toss without a lifting arm, just goes hard.

This is the kinda stuff that has got be researching and looking to build my first bot. I’m hype for 2024
I always wanted to build one of these, even drew it out years back. Only mine had no offencive external weaponry. What it did have / would have had if i built it, was a stack of parts torn out of disposable cameras re-wired and rigged up to some beefy capacitors and 1 button on the controller.
All anyone would hear is a brief whine, then lights out on anything electronic for half a block in each direction.

Though after watching many a Battlebots episode, I do think that flamethrowers or other such related heat based weapons sadly don’t make the best of weapons… but I love the design idea!

Neat thought to overheat circuits... just takes a bit too long. They need to make their bot have a higher horse power and some form of reverse wedge to utilize it effectively though
