- Tottenham Hotspur F.C. goalie Hugo Lloris suffered an elbow dislocation and is going to be out for the remainder of 2019. Thankfully he won't require surgery, but this scary elbow dislocation resulted in ligament damage that will take some time to heal. In this video we'll review the relevant elbow anatomy and mechanism of dislocation combined with a review of the footage of the injury to Hugo Lloris.

Hi doctor.
I had a anterior elbow dislocation as a child. It never healed propertly. When I shoot the basketball it has the weirdest trajectory. Its not as ugly as Lonzo's, but its up there.

As a spurs fan it was tough to see, but as a physical therapist seeing a FOOSH injury it made me even more worried about the timeline of his recovery. I dislocated my elbow a number of years ago, and it was absolutely excruciating. I have had multiple joints dislocated and this was by far the worst pain, for weeks after it was reduced, and tremendous amounts of bruising and swelling. I definitely feel for this player and hope his recovery is smooth. Thanks for the interesting video, they are always great!

This one might be the closest to what happened to me. Except I needed surgery, since in addition to dislocation, I also tore my ligaments and tendons and they also had to take a little piece of my bone out, put a gilded screw in if I recall well and some months later have another surgery to take the screw out. After years of rehabilitation, I'm stuck with not being to fully extend (around 20 degrees short) my arm or carry any weight heavier than 5kg with it. My surgeon told me that in his career it was the 2nd "worst" injury he had to deal with and my rehab doc actually did her master thesis on it. So at least something good came out of it. Ha
I don't care a fig about sports but you just helped me greatly with a biomechanics course! Thank you!

I dislocated my elbow playing basketball after getting flipped upside down on a dunk back in 2015. I also broke my olecrenon completely off of my Ulna.. I fortunately relocated my elbow on my own after I woke from the 10ish second black out. I needed surgery, I’m very fortunate that I lived in Houston which has some of the best sports injury surgeons in the world.. my elbow still pops daily and I had to have a pin put in replacement of my olecrenon. But I can still work, play basketball on occasion etc.
I dislocated my right elbow in a motorcycle accident, it was a posterior dislocation with medial displacement of the ulna, since i was in the field i couldn't reduce it immediately and it remain dislocated for a day, it was reduced in the OR but was a closed reduction, it took me almost a year to regain complete ROM, and now my elbow is stronger than ever, i go to the gym and train calisthenics at home.
Thank fuck there’s one successful recovery I’ve read.

Jon jones was locked in an armbar but refuse to tap. Could you evaluate the potential injury he sustained during that moment. He describes not being able to fully extend his arm ever since. I dislocated and fractured my right elbow in May 2018. X-Rays look near identical except a chip of my bone went into the joint, and he injured his left elbow. I had to have a screw put in and surgery, the screw stays.

I dislocated my elbow and tore both ligaments and my flexor tendons. My doctors only took an x Ray and explained nothing was broken and sent me home. So two months later I finally had an MRI and they were like "wow! You need surgery" I'm now in a rom elbow brace and in therapy!
Coul you move you fingers and lift your arm wile in the splint the first week ?
@@hugo_vega_1 I was in a 90° splint all the way up to the 2nd knuckles of my fingers. So I could move my shoulder, but not much below that

From your explanation, I'm going to assume torn ligament doesn't mean completely parted. Because if it is parted it would definitely require surgery right. And you say it's definitely torn
I had the same elbow dislocation way back 2014 when i was playing basketball in school
It hurt so bad i thought i was going to pass out back then.
I'm a goalie, i dived down with an outstretched arm in a match and smashed it to bits, broken radias and dislocated elbow, it was the most painful thing.
This happened to me while playing basketball. No surgery required, the doctor just pull it back into place.
