  • Recently we have covered quite some choppers? But which knife is the best chopper purely based on it's chopping power? In this episode we do a series of test like wood cutting, rope cutting, bottle cutting and what not to find out which knife performs the best in chopping! Price was no factor in these tests. Enjoy!

    My Tereva Skrama is my goto knife for all things outdoors. For the money one of the best knives I have ever owned!

    • @Trekked1
      @Trekked1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah, it even comes in at under $100 with an excellent sheath. Plus, it has a few unique features like the 2-3 inch section of blade near the grip that has a steeper grind for finer cutting tasks like feather sticking. The huge lanyard hole allows you to hook carabiners or fit all sorts of improvised cordage, straps, or rope through it in the event you forget your paracord. The hole can also be used to strip bark or fibrous material from small branches and plants. It has a catchy name. Oh, and it looks cool. And as we know, looks are the most important aspect of a knife.

    Have you heard about the difference in sharpening to a fine grit to a course grit for different cutting purposes? If i have a knife like the Bark River Bravo that I use for both bushcraft & skinning animals (basically an allround outdoor/camp knife), is it best to sharpen to a very fine grit 5k-8k, or a course, toothy finish?

    Great video as usual and I'm again really proud of the Skrama. I own one myself and I can confirm that it is an awesome chopper and batoner. Not sure if these boys has mentioned that the Skrama comes with a secondary grind close to the handle which is steeper and allows you to do more precise tasks, like feathersticking and crafting.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I got rid of it and sharpened the knife myself to get a slight secondary convex. Now it feathersticks well all over the blade haha

    Hi guys! I really like your vids, thanks to you i knew (and bought) morakniv garberg and robust knives. I have a question to you: the fallkniven modern Bowie seems pretty identical to the cold steel trail master, do they copy it?

    Thanks!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whether fallkniven and colds steel copy each other I don't know. I guess knives will always look alike with those materials they use. Fallkniven does use higher end material for most of their products but cold steel is cheaper

  • @TheKimjoh560
    @TheKimjoh560 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Angled grips where its at because it offsets the point of impact vertically in relation to your hand, much like an axe would. The angled grip adds a slight cutting motion to the chop aswell, not unlike a kukri. It also helps if the tang is covered by the grip or you will find alot of vibration is transfered in to the skeletal structure of you palm, causing pain and fatigue.
    Neither of these would have made my top ten I think. Condor Dundee is a pretty solid chopper for the money, however. Its definatley not a looker though.
