    I do own this watch (2002 14060M) and the more I learn about the submariner the more I appreciate the size, no date, 2 lines of text, etc. It was a gift on my 50th birthday, I have owned it for 20 years. Thanks for the video.

    I've never worn the sub or any other "tool" or "tool" like watch with a suit. I have, however seen many guys do so and it's not too bad, gives one a James Bond kind of vibe. my watch of choice on those rare occasions when I wear a suit is a Patek Philippe 3923 which I will review sometime in the near future. Its a very simple, classic watch on a black alligator strap. thank you for watching :)

    Great review. I love mine, I’ll keep it forever. Bought mine retail, in 2006 for £2225, which was a lot of money for me, now Rolex prices are insane!

      not only are prices getting high there's no inventory at any AD, and if you go grey market you have to pay way above msrp

    this was very very informative and extensive thanks a lot! Which submariner would you prefer a 5513, a 14060M or the new 114060. looking to buy my first submariner and would like some advice thanks!

    • @369168
      @369168  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Danny Tran wow, that's a tough choice. For me I would stay away from the 5513 even though it's very nice, I'm just worried about the potential lack of parts for a vintage piece. for me it's a toss up between the 14060M and the 114060 with a slight bias towards the latter because I think the movement is slightly better. I don't care about a ceramic bezel one way or the other. thanks for watching !

    I love this model, what year is it? I see that apart from a scratch on the crystal it looks mint condition. This is NOT the maxi case is it, I prefer this size to the new ones.

    love how clean the dial looks. i have the chronometer version, but definitely prefer this one :)

  • @369168
    @369168  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is my understanding that the terminus of the coil has to be bent to a certain type of shape or curve to qualify it as a Breguet overcoil, and this is supposedly a process that requires a certain amount of expertise. in answer to your question, I have always thought that most wristwatches had flat hairsprings. the bottom line is that I believed that the overcoil was something a bit more special.

  • @L8bro
    @L8bro 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another nice vid. I thought only the center row of links were hollow and that all of the end links running the length of the bracelet were solid.

  • @robinheiz
    @robinheiz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you recommend 14060/14060M as a first Rolex?
    I can’t decide... the ceramic version I do also like very much, but I like the more simple dial on the 14060.

    • @369168
      @369168  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      both versions are pretty nice, but the numerals on the ceramic sometimes look cartoonishly big to me.

  • @369168
    @369168  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I opted for the non date because I really didn't want the date on this particular Rolex. As far as my budget was concerned getting the one with the date wouldn't have cost too much more relative to what I was going to spend. Thanks for watching.

  • @369168
    @369168  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    On my model I think all the links are hollow. on some of the newer versions the endlinks are solid. (I think) thanks for watching

    I have had my 41060 since 1998. It never misses a beat and is slow to the tune of 3 sec a week!. Never off my wrist, my daily wearer. Had it serviced by Rolex once in all these year's . It is my view that if your watch is running well don't take any notice of the Rolex servicing period of 3-5 years...its bollocks. Have it serviced when it goes wrong or loses too much time Rolex servicing is, at these intervals, purely a money making exercise.

    • @369168
      @369168  8 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @ACoustaDC
    @ACoustaDC 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    1st. I like your perspective, which comes from the fantastic collection you have. 2nd, do you think a sub goes well with a suit? I know a sub is a black and white "tuxedo" of watches. I just don't prefer it with a suit. I mean you can't go wrong with it no matter what you wear, but just wondered your opinion, and what watch your prefer with a suit.

  • @369168
    @369168  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    you're welcome. the design is indeed a classic. thanks for watching :)

  • @369168
    @369168  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know that the overcoil is not unique to Rolex, but it seemed to be a nice thing to have in "mass" produced watch. So is it safe to say that perhaps the shaping of that terminus is not as "difficult" as it is made out to be? I remember seeing some reference to the shaping of the overcoil in some IWC literature awhile back, and once again the implication is only a very experienced watchmaker/"hairspring specialist" could do it. I enjoyed this discussion. thanks so much for all your imput.

    what is the M ref no . is it any different than any other refferences. thanks

    • @369168
      @369168  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the difference is in the movement. 14060 = caliber 3000, whereas 14060M has caliber 3130. the differences between the former and the latter are:
      1. cal 3000 has a balance cock , cal 3130 has a balance bridge
      2. cal 3130 has a slightly larger balance wheel
      3. cal 3000 has a flat overcoil , cal 3130 has a Breguet overcoil
      good question, and thanks for watching !

    Great review. But I have to disagree on one point. Rolex do change for the sake of change, it's a smart move on their part....it keeps their resale high.

  • @369168

    "stamped" is probably inaccurate, but I wanted to point out that the links were hollow and in spite of this the bracelet is sturdy and comfortable.

  • @MyChannelTracks
    @MyChannelTracks 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Correct me if Im wrong, but what is perpetual on watch with no date?

    • @369168
      @369168  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MyChannelTracks The "Perpetual" is in reference to the fact that the watch is automatic and if as long as you're wearing it most of the time it will run "forever" or "Perpetually". Thanks for watching.

    • @MyChannelTracks
      @MyChannelTracks 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS Thanks for reply. Its a little bit confusing with perpetual date.

    • @369168
      @369168  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MyChannelTracks I can understand your confusion. You are associating "Perpetual" with a Perpetual calender, which would be strange if there wasn't a date function on such a watch.( As with this Rolex 14060M)

  • @Steve-fx6ej
    @Steve-fx6ej 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like a permanent link is removed at 6 o clock, is that the only way to center the clasp?

    • @369168
      @369168  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stephen Murphy I HAD to have the permanent link removed, otherwise it would have been too loose on my slender wrist. This is definitely not the preferred or only way to center the clasp.

    • @Steve-fx6ej
      @Steve-fx6ej 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense, those older bracelets had fewer removable links

  • @369168
    @369168  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    i'm implying that Rolex generally doesn't jump react to fades or trends overly quickly, but they do indeed change to keep pace with current watch trends as evidenced by the slightly larger than 40mm sports watches such as the deepsea and the new explorers.
    thanks so much for watching.

    I have the older sub model and find the new ceramic model disproportionate size of the lug to the bracelet? Just seems the bracelet is to narrow to the lug ! The older design is more smother and balanced! In saying that it still is a more bling masculine looking watch to the previous model

    Nicely done. Another thing Rolex invented was the Oyster case w/ screw-down back. I think they were the first to do this I believe, and if not, they certainly perfected it. It is also worth mentioning that Rolex DOES come out with a totally new watch from time to time. Maybe every 20-30 years? The Sky-Dweller is a prime example, and before that, the all-new Daytona. I believe for this year, they're bringing back the no-date Sub as well. The new ones have really clunky crown guards though.

    • @bryz5232

      Jeremy D 90% sure borrowed the screw down crown design idea from another brand or watchmaker, seen the info in an old watchmskers repair book.
