My 2008 base coupe with 60K miles started sticking in Park. Had to push the lever forward until the switches would click and release the lock.
Ordered your kit that included the grommets and gear indicator parts.
Watched the video several times before I got the nerve to do it.
The video was great! Best on the Internet for this installation. Your tech did make it look much easier than it actually is. Comes with practice probably.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the electrical connections was the hardest part. I had an extra electrical connector for the mag ride. OMG! Small hands and lots of patience are needed. I ended upside down to see how to work on them.
Changed the shifter grommet while I had it apart. That took smaller hands and more patience! Got it apart and the original looked like new. Figured I should change to your newer and better grommet. It took over an hour to dig out the original. A very small needle nose pliers, hook tools from Harbor Freight, and an ice pick to finally dig it out.
Everything went back together fine and worked smoothly.
    Suggestions:
Remove the top and hang two bright lights directly above the car to brightly illuminate the work area. Have a good flashlight and a work light at the ready.
Hook up a battery tender of at least 4.5 or 5 amps before you start. Having it In accessory mode will kill the battery in short order. If you watch sections of the video repeatedly while doing the work, the battery will soon be dead.
Have some tools handy for removing the grommet. Unless it is already failing, it is tough to remove.
Enjoy a drink to celebrate when you are done.

It does take some time if you are like me and rewatch each step multiple times as you are doing the job.
You just have to follow the video and you will be happy that you did and understand how the shifter functions.
Don’t know what someone will charge you but only a few privately owned shops will have done this before. Most will have just replaced the whole shifter.
One shop thought something around $2400 but that included a new shifter.
I was comfortable with doing it myself. The video is excellent.

Thank you for this comprehensive walkthrough. I did the replacement work today. It took five hours but I was taking my time and rewatching this video along the way to make sure I was on the right track. Removing the shifter knob was tedious and I was able to make the quarter turn using a pair of extended needle nose pliers. Once I heard the click from the lock ring I was in business. I also took it as an opportunity to install the new leather shift boot that I purchased 12 years ago. Everything works quite nicely and I have peace of mind with the upgraded switches. Thanks again.

Great video! Just bought the harness because mine is in the garage not driving due to this very issue because it is all the way gone and will not come go into Park and is stick in drive it neutral. So glad this came out because I was going to put on a button switch bypass connected to the orange wire and put the switch right by the cigarette lighter 12v plug which is better than cutting the pawl. But now, it's going to be fixed right the first time with a quality part!

Lyle - love your channel (subscribed) and appreciate all of your content.
I had to leave a review - my 2008 C6 shifter was beginning to show the signs of "sticking" - happened a few times when I was out, but I was (thankfully) able to get it to go into gear and get home - so I decided to take the preemptive move and replace the micro-switches.
Doc - The video was perfect and made doing this job easy, though the one area that was difficult (a PITA) was trying to disconnect the cigarette lighters (mine has 2, one in the console and one inside the console rest) which I had to research on a couple of of forums to figure out.
The time between ordering and having the part shipped was also very quick - the only drawback was USPS, which took 4 days to get the part from Sarasota to Central FL (just a few hundred miles).
The new switch works great and I am confident I will not have to worry about being stranded in the future. Thanks!

This is an amazing fix. Make sure you watch the video at least three times as you will pickup something new every time. I also changed the shift linkage bushing since it was all torn apart. Two learnings, disconnecting the switches is not as easy as it looks. Finding and pressing the keepers was tough. Second my shift bushing was intact and looked good but I decided to change it, not easy!!! Removing the bushing took longer than the whole wire harness replacement and I needed a heat gun, multiple picks and some dental tools to facilitate the replacement. All in all the repair was well worth it and everything works great. If you are thinking of just cutting off the pawl don’t. Buy this product and do the job right and keep your safety feature intact

@@csvetteLyle, witch question that just occurred to me. Like I said I bought the cable already, but Is there any chance that the little wheels could distort or melt for to the heat from the exhaust and the torque tube coming up through that hole in the floor below it? If so is there something we could do or pot on top mitigate that from happening? I'm putting on the 3/8" ceramic coated aluminum plate on and the stick on DEI tunnel insulation pretty soon as well. Why is that hole in the body just for the shifter cable and what maybe a couple other wires to go out so big?

$155 is a bit much since you have about $20 max worth of parts in the whole thing. I'm sure it'll be a great service for Corvette owners who are not technically savvy and would rather buy a plug-in play pre-made harness then spend $4 on two micro switches and a couple hours of their time. Best of luck. 💰🤑🫰

I'm happy that you have the technical know-how and less-than-wholesale parts availability to not need it! Hopefully, you won't ever have the problem in the first place. Lyle :)

@@csvette yes I am blessed to have 55+ years of experience in electronics and automotive repair. At a quantity of 100 the price of the micro switches is $1.67 from a local distributor. The 194 bulb socket and other connectors would definitely be a bit more pricey. Even though my 08 Z51 C6 is low mileage 14K, you know it's only a matter of time before the shifter switches will fail. Luckily I've replaced both bushings, at the transmission and at the shifter so those are good for now. You do offer great products and great informative videos. :-)

@@davidnclearlaketx You are definitely the right guy for the job! I'm happy that you haven't had the stuck-in-park issue yet, but at the very least our video was able to provide the info needed to repair it yourself when the time comes. thank you for watching! Lyle :)

Using the cheapest microswitches you can find is what GM did that caused the whole problem in the first place
      Just buy the kit
