Ben, this is one of the funniest booktube videos that I have ever seen!! You guys are pure comedy 😂 There was something very cosy and soothing about watching you fold all that washing...lol.. love how you left half for Matt 😅 And yes, Pillars of the Earth is a masterpiece . My autumn recommendation would be Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Despite being a children's book, it is one of the spookiest things I have ever read. Plus, its really short so you can read it in an afternoon.( when youve finished your share of the laundry of course 😂😂😂)

I've just started The Empusium by Olga Tokarczuk. Based on the subtitle, A Health Resort Horror Story, and with a picture of a skull on the cover, it could be a spooky season read. And by page 3, autumnal: "the summer is already long over and the first fallen leaves are lying on the ground." 🍂🎃🍂 P.S. I read Follett when Pillars of Earth was a trilogy, and only this year found out he'd done a prequel and a sequel. There's something cozy about knowing there's more if you want it. And I love that he was so extra!

I'm tempted to go with the obvious and say Ali Smith's Autumn, but not even I have finished that one. So I'll stick with some Ray Bradbury: The October Country (short stories) or Something Wicked This Way Comes (novel). "Ill winds mark it's fearsome flight, And autumn branches creak with fright. The landscape turns to ashen crumbs, When something wicked this way comes..." [Off to do some laundry. Thank God I have a clothes dryer.]
I was tempted by the Ali Smith (and the Knausgaard) but they were too easy pickings 😅 We have a combo washer-dryer, but it doesn’t leave t-shirts with the nicest feel. So usually we use the dryer just to get rid of the excess moisture, then air-dry the rest of the way. (What a highly boring nugget of information, my apologies.)
Headshot compared people to food a lot, I know that put people off, but I recognized how obsessed I was with food while involved in extreme sport. If you have to weigh daily and calorie restrict it warps reality. I'm glad such a niche book has gotten notice. If you want to try more essay collections Margaret Renkl writes nature essays with great fall vibes and art.
