In Dragon Age Origins there's a necklace you can get that originates from Par Vollen, the description says it was made from volcanic material. The island might have volcanoes in the uncharted parts.
I think I remember there being a time before the elves when dwarves lived on the surface; perhaps the ruins are from that period & thus the Deep Roads would not extend to Par Vollen. If the Deep Roads do extend to Par Vollen, I'm seriously impressed by the dwarves's ability to tunnel under the ocean floor, & the Qunari could have issues with darkspawn.
Nick White Stem said that "this should be corrected" in DAO, and since he's the arashok now, he might have had the qunari bakers start making cookies by now.
NButler1993 Technically that’s not his department,he’s strictly military.Thats not to say that he can’t send out a ration request which states quite clearly that his troops absolutely need “Small pieces of circular bread that has been baked with sugar and eggs and dotted with small pieces of chocolate” in order to better serve the Qun.
James.T .Adams That would have to be the best request ever written in qun history. "I am requesting of the Arigena to instruct the bakers of the Qun to bake small circular pieces of bread, sweetened with excess amounts of sugar and topped with small droplets of chocolate(and possibly chopped nuts), to serve as supplements to the existing rations given to barresad troops. In addition I am also requesting milk in witch to dip them.(the sweetened breads, not the troops)"
I find it appropriate that the Qunari are very conventional with their food to the point where you're not allowed to even add some sugar to a loaf of bread or at the very least have the action be perceived as rebellion.
Love your in-depth overview of all the mysterious cultures in DA. You keep information fresh in the minds of long-time fans, and you invigorate newcomers to the series. Keep it up! You're my favorite channel ❤
"The Qun isn't really a religion it's a belief system" I can't remember the source unfortunately, but I believe it has been said that the Qun does involve some kind of true theological belief.... but that the Qunari just won't tell anyone what it is. Which, you know, is characteristic of them.
I hope that they are preparing for the coming of a messiah, or something. Keeping their body and mind free from wickedness and demons, so that they are a pure vessel when ( a ) God returns. ...Probably not : /
All we know so far is they call the fade the land of the dead but that’s all we get as they keep secrets from everyone outside of their country and even from their own people who aren’t priests
@@shanedixon5845 except the world of Thedas is in what we would call the "southern hemisphere", so you would (or should) be getting warmer the more north you go. Only reason we know this is appearently its a frozen wastland south of the Kocari Wilds
The Qunari conception of romance has some parallels to the red troll romances from Homestuck - in both societies, there is a separation between sexual interest and emotional support. The sexual partners of the Qunari are analogous to troll matesprits, while the platonic lifepartners ("Kadans") of the Qunari are analogous to morrails.
Awesome video! I've never heard of the Fex, so that makes me curious as to if they've been written out of the DA universe or not. I would love to hear more about the Pyramids and the known locations of where I can take a look at the paintings you were speaking of.
On the cookie thing: it's indicative of a super spartan and efficient food culture, as things like cookies only spring up in cultures where there is an excess of things like butter. No excess of food means less "luxury" cuisine.
it could have been a scam! or the cheese in question came from the milk of an animal non-native to Thedas! ...Gamlen getting scammed is probably what happened.
I thought that the scaled ones were qunari that pre dated the qun but what if they are the fex and they are the horned creatures that early humans on par vollen served. There is a dwarven ruin there and that maybe how they got to the deep roads that the journal in the descent dlc mentioned.
I don't know where I read/heard this so it might not be correct but I seem to remember that Qunari are given names but it's solely for keeping record of the family trees and they are never told their names.
Ok so if par vollen is really warm wouldn't that mean that it would have to be close to that planet's equator and that all of thedas is south of that equator.... thoughts anyone? Also does anyone know if southern theadas is warm?
Yup , Thedas is infact a southern hemisphere nation, or continent, island ... To the far south it's actually Called the Sunless-land. You should Check out Ghil Dirthalen's vid called Beyond Thedas. th-cam.com/video/ou8qrIRerS8/w-d-xo.html
...orrrrrr, as in IRL, the maps we see are made from the POV of the cartographer: soooo Thedas COULD be north of Par Vollen just as easily as it could be south. srsly. you should check out how different "standard" maps look depending on where they are made: many maps show europe to look MUCH, MUCH LARGER than it really is (which is ABSOLUTELY TINY), likewise with Greenland, and then squashing Africa into an itsy bitsy baby just so you can read all the names of all these tiny european nations that broke away from the Soviet Union/Ottoman Empire/larger tiny european nations.

I believe the horned people worshipped on Par Vollen were the Kossith, which are a people that were obviously part of the same group that eventually followed the Qun, predating the introduction of the it. Koslun (who wrote the Qun) was a Kossith, and they were ousted when the Qun took over, with priests and such being re-educated, killed or exiled. A group of these made their way to the Korcari Wilds area (-410 Ancient), darkspawn captured them and corrupted them and scholars think some were even made into broodmothers, which is where those giant horned darkspawn ogres come from.
Early on the Qunari were based on early islamic Arabs and the Seljuk Turks with Plato's republic thrown in. Which was part of the reason why they quarreled with Tevinter who in the current age were based off the Byzantine empire. Now the Qunari are fucking progressive hippies.

Can't wait till the day when we can see this place too
I wish we had more about the dwarven ruins and Deep Roads in Par Vollen.
Surely there wouldn't be any?EDIT: Nevermind, hadn't watched the video yet.
Right? So interesting. That means the Deep Roads extend across the Boeric Ocean? I wonder how far else they go.
I think I remember there being a time before the elves when dwarves lived on the surface; perhaps the ruins are from that period & thus the Deep Roads would not extend to Par Vollen.

Well it sounds like they plan on introducing them in a future game so they will be important at some point
Par Volen has a terrible lack of cookies...the horror.🤣
