The "Baba" title is most-likely a reference to the tale of Baba-Yaga witch would fit with the houses on stilts and witches thing

I always felt that the Chasind and Avvar were supposed to play a bigger part in Dragon Age: Origins. All the things we did in the Korcari Wilds learning about the Chasind, the encounter with the Ash Warriors in Ostagar and the Chasind in Lothering seemed like they were meant to lead somewhere. Then I watched an interview with David Gaider where he mentioned that there was supposed to be a human barbarian origin. After that I wanted to be a Chasind or Avvar so bad. If Dragon Age: Origins is ever remastered I wish that the human barbarian story would be written back in. I would pay full price of a new game for that. I can only dream I guess.

@@nickwhite6249 I know this comment is three years old but Mark Darrah just recently released a video about his part in the development of DA:O and he talks about the Avvar origin and the "Human Commoner" origin as being the same. It wasn't that it was specifically a Commoner origin, but that is was an analogue to city elf/dwarf commoner for the other races.
Not that important but just thought I should point out only one origin got cut, not two

Wow, this is a short video but so, so thorough! I did not know the depth of Chasind mysticism and lore, thank you!
On the topic of Orlais and the Chasind, I wonder how common (or uncommon) it is for lords to have Chasind as part of their staff or forces, like Cahir in Mark of the Assassin (your fave, I know ;) ) working for Duke Prosper.

I love the lands beyond Thedas and this has to be one of the more fleshed out cultures there is. You did a great job brining their history and culture to life!

It might just be coincidental, but man, what little we have of Chasind society seems *really* similar to the Dalish Elves. Additionally, Flemeth's origins are deeply tied to the Chasind and Mythal came to her, and they still lived in the Korcari Wilds as long as until the Fifth Blight.
So, crack theory: after the Veil came up and humans started entering Thedas, the Chasind were originally converts to the relatively new religion of Creators, as the former rulers of elvhen society became mythologized as gods, but early enough that the connection between elves and spirits hadn't been lost, resulting in more animistic beliefs than the current Dalish hold onto. Their structure is identical to the Dalish as far as we've seen, with a wise mage leading the disparate clans and presumably taking apprentices to keep the knowledge alive, and I suspect their face paint too is derived from the vallaslin. I suspect that the reason the elves separated from the Chasind after initially welcoming them would relate to the genetic override effect that we see with elves in Thedas - perhaps the Chasind originally joined elvhen society as lovers and spouses and converted for that reason, but were driven out when the elves realized all the hybrid children seemed entirely human and feared that elves as a species would be bred out of existence. These connections in their culture deteriorated with the centuries of separation, but maybe Mythal held on to a soft spot for them.

Why didn't the darkspawn get lost in the fog like the arl's army? It would be pretty funny that the Blight was stopped by fog because they couldn't find their way north. But it would also be an example of how tragedy can also be born from comedy because the Wilds would turn into a desert from all the taint. Wait, maybe they did get lost but one darkspawn found a way by chance and knowledge transmits through the group mind so they all knew it.

    > Describe them as barbarians and violent
    > Normal features are darker skin and hair
    > Everyone mistrusts or hates them despite them usually mind their own business and still being raided by templars
