It's an overall improvement over the first game, fixing some complaints people had about the mission progression, length and variety in bosses and objectives. On top of that it's some of the nicest looking ps2 games ever created, with masterful use of various filters and effects it makes it look like something one would expect to get on the xbox and not on toaster station 2. However, at least in my opinion, the game is less fair to the player often poorly explaining it's mechanics and relying on gimmicky boss design which punishes you heavily for not understanding what you have to do right away. Thankfully the checkpoins are generous however i wish i didn't have to listen the tutorial each time i reset the fight... Going back to the graphics while they are nice the game has a bad habit of dropping frames and slowing down, not as much as the pre patch hd collection but it's less than optimal especially compared to the rock solid performance of ZOE1. Both games run at 60 fps hoever the sequel doesn't hold it as steadily. I believe this game's stability would have actually benefitted greatly from a locked 30 frames which would make quite a few sections feel much less like an unresponsive mess.
Great upload - this might be the highest quality version of the original PS2 trailer/intro movie (the one with Beyond the Bounds) out there. I've been obsessed with that intro as the hypest thing on earth since I first saw it in 2002 and the HD and MARS versions don't ever get it quite right redoing it. I remember being in high school watching it over and over and over until ZOE2 actually came out 😊
Thanks, i had to force the game ti run at a non standard resolution to get it to look as sharp. Ps2 is a nightmare when it comes to it's output resolution which causes them to look distorted on modern sharp displays and capture equipment. We're also lucky the FMV sequences were all saved in progressive scan and not interlaced like many dvd movies and animated scenes in games. If they were interladed they would look weird with horizontal lines in motion or be in lower resolution.
Although I liked the first one more, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner was an awesome and fun game. The gameplay was awesome and rad and the animated cutscenes were outstandingly amazing
Uh where was I when this game came out. I cant believe a game that Hideo Cojima produced flew under the radar for me. Thanks for opening my eyes to this one.
He also made Boktai power of the sun on the gba and ds. If you want to experience ZOE fully, i'd totally recommend checking out the OVA which happens before events of ZOE 1 and the anime that takes place roughly at the same time as ZOE1 but before ZOE2. Both were directed by Kojima and the anime especially holds a special place for me for having the most adorkable gigant robot in anything.
it is possbile to play zoe2 special edition because of the language? i dont care about the story... I just dont wanna get stuck on a puzzle or someting... pal is 50hz only so dont even mention it
Thankfully the Special Edition made it to the PS3 in the collection. I played it on the PS2 as well since I live in Europe and I gotta tell you it SUUUUX. The special edition is much harder and possibly because of some dodgy optimization it runs like absolute garbage on the PS2. I did not have fun tho I also didn't really notice any difference between the 2 version (base and special edition that is)

thanks for telling ... may the force be with you
Pro tip : you can watch series at instaflixxer. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Coleman Augustine yea, I've been using instaflixxer for months myself :D

@Coleman Augustine definitely, been using instaflixxer for years myself :D
The bit where you destroy warships is one of the coolest things I've done on a PS2 videogame
The way they use in-game graphics and 2D animation hybrid in cutscenes is genius.
Best intro song ever to a mech game and so many references to other games in the Konami franchise Ren is waifu

Scratches the nostalgia itch just right... Got my Revoltec Anubis and Jehuty Vector Cannon figures on the shelf right over there --->
I really don't understand why this game isn't mentioned more
very nice game never first played when I was 14
What in the world?!
Oh, Kojima... I should have known.
Although I liked the first one more, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner was an awesome and fun game. The gameplay was awesome and rad and the animated cutscenes were outstandingly amazing
This looks sick

Kojima's masterpiece.
