Very talented group. I remember hearing this song in the cold Chicago winter of January 1984. Wow, what a smooth song. Why didn't this group make more hits? Outstanding. Bulls fan, but I liked it when the Sixers won in 1983!
I’m hearing this song in the cold Berlin winter of January 2024. It just came on the radio. Wow, indeed a very smooth song. The best songs are those with the most beautiful memories.
Dr. J, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney, Bobby Jones, Mo Cheeks, plus the rest of the team and coach Billy Cunningham + Pieces of a Dream. What a wonderful time it was to live in Philly. I loved the city and the music, miss it very much.
I was feeling that Philly Vibe down in Baltimore that year, but the Orioles got the Phillies a few months later in the World Series...still hell of a vibe
I automatically thought of this song when I heard of his passing, 83 was a great time to live in Philly and to witness Moses coming to Philly and promised a championship! With some help though among the other greats on the team. RIP Moses.
I remembered the lyric when I heard the news - finally found the song. Sixers swept my Lakers 4-0 in '83 and boy was I ticked. Fist Dawkins and now Moses. RIP
Very well done!!!...Such a great classic R&B tune!!!...Peaked at #15 on the R&B charts, yet only made it to #107 on the US charts in Feb 1984!!!...Good job!!!, Fredo Zico!!!...Yours, RO / Portales NM USA
I remember hearing this track, on our now defunct radio station WJZZ here in Detroit, right after the 76'ers won the NBA championship. Winning their 3 series fo, fi, fo.
I was only in second grade when this song came out. But I have remembered it since I heard it. I have vivid memories of my dad driving around with this song playing on the radio. I see from the comments that many people are mentioning Philly. I was born and reared in Houston, TX, so I don't have all of the background info that you all have. But this song is a classic in my mind. I never knew if they were saying 4-5-4 or 4-5-0. Now I know. Thank you for posting!
Saw these guys at Left Bank Jazz Society in Baltimore when I was about 10. I’m 52 now and it still bangs! I saw the dude in the glasses go into the bathroom with a groupie after the set! Life is good!
That's my jam.cranking n the ride these days!! Just not ln the DMV. Thank goodness l got my go-go cds ready when l start missing trouble funk and chuck brown crankin.......
I haven't seen this video since 83. I used to watch it on BET video soul stationed at FT Gordon Ga. Shots out to the Doc, RIP Moses, Daryl Dawkins don't forget Andrew Toney for the greatest 76ers team ever.
I hate to mention this but Daryl Dawkins never played on the 76ers championship team he was part of the trade along with Caldwell Jones and another player to get MOSES !
Straight from philly peices of dream were talented young jazz brothers, this song was dedicated to the philadelphia 76'ers the dr. J and moses molone won the playoff and championship run in 4 5 and 4.
Continued peace, Moses. And peace on, Cedric Napoleon, one of the baddest bassists, ever, and who sang that iconic "Moses Malone [said] to Dr. J" line....!
@guleet Basketball player who's quote inspired this classic tune. Moses Malone was from Mississippi so he pronounced it fo fi fo referring to the NBA championship run. And you can hear his actual voice in the song.
Great memories. I remember seeing this video as a kid on BET's Video Soul with Donnie Simpson. Isn't the title from a Moses Malone prediction that the 76er's would sweep the 83 playoffs "Fo Fo Fo"?
Pieces of a dream 454 back in the day was just like living in Philly in a nice juicy Philly cheese steak back in the day where the Philadelphia 76ers with Moses Malone helping Dr J when the NBA title !
Wow--haven't seen this in years----I thought it was filmed in Detroit or something, because the song was a small hit there. The group, Pieces of a Dream, were noted at the time for being a full-fledged jazz group at such a young age--they were just into their early twenties when their debut album came out either 1982 or '83 (when I first heard the song) and they went on be to be a well known jazz group thoughout the '80's---this song was one of their very first R&B hits. I thought it was Luther Vandross singing it, because it sounded so much like his style at the time. Always loved this song---takes me back to my childhood days of having my ears glued to the radio.
Also saw the lead guitarist, one Cedric Napoleon, play with Grover Washington (Roberta Flack was the opening act) back in 1992 at a live Chene Park nighttime concert in Detroit, right on the river---it was so beautiful. The funniest thing I remember was that when it started to rain on that cool summer night, people in the speedboats floating nearly in the Detroit River listening to the concert just pulled their tarps up over the boat and kept on listening to the concert!
Late 1983 into early 84 this groove by Pieces of a Dream is still my favorite and it was my dad's favorite too cause he was always watching those basketball games I always thought the song title was 454 but according to the title it was Fo Fi Fo thanks to the late Grover Washington Jr.
Just imagine being a teenager when this came out and during the Sixers championship run.....no words can explain it, you just literally HAD to be there.....
There's something about the chords and sound of this song that feels like its from the future. It's like I've heard it before in another lifetime. Extremely jarring
Hard to believe that it's been almost 40 years since this song was released. I was so happy that Dr J finally got a ring, and then this tune commemorated the title. Great music, and I still love it today!
In the bay area ( this tv show called “magic number video” on ch 48 ) Isaac Stevenson was the v j and it premiered this video ! Classic 76er basketball 🏀 with doctor j & Moses Malone highlights 🤟🙌⭐️👏👊
Aw I haven't seen this video since video soul on BET. And much love to 82 83 76ers. MY favorite team of all time. Rest in peace BIG MO! but don't forget Andrew Toney! philly, it took yall to get DREW and MO to get past celts.
1983 back to work after 3 years of layoff. I ask my god of the east to bless with the jack pot so that I would not suffer unemployment again.he kept me working 30+ years. I am not ungrateful.but just once my god from east before I pass on.
Haven't thought about this song in eons until today. I had a deer enter my yard twice this morning, once around 3:30 then again around 7. I live in the city and it's not unusual to see deer. But unusual enough to see them in my neighborhood. Let alone in my yard. So I looked up "deer" in my 3 Wiseman lottery book. Deer happens to play 454! Lol Then I remembered this song. I think this just backs up my hunch. Wish me luck!
I'm a son of a Philly kid my dad is south Philly til he dies and he made sure I knew this song and the history of this song and I think that's dope the 6ers was really the squad back in the day and they have a song to prove it (and it's groovy haha 🔥)
I am 55 years old, and have been feeling this groove for the last 3 1/2 decades!!
Good stuff bruh!! Believe dat!!💯💯👊🏿👊🏿

The video didn't debut until 1984 because Philly didn't win the championship until 1983.
This song had heavy rotation on BET Video Vibrations and Video Soul
A tribute to the 1982-1983 Sixers 65-17 NBA Finals Champions!!!
