    The drone shot with the big Icon Siam and skyline in the back is really nice. Thank you for sharing.

    Thailand is a developing country that dares to implement a metro system, not by govt initially but by a private enterprise under build-operate-transfer basis. When a housing developer Tanayong group proposed to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BKK city govt) to build an electric skytrain linking the major nothern/eastern provincial bus terminal into the city center itself about 30 years ago, local and expatriates were skeptical because previously HK Hopewell and Canadian Lavalin had proposed such project in Bangkok to the national govt but failed hopelessly to complete the project. In the case of Lavalin, only about 1-2% was completed while Hopewell did a little better upto 5% before both concessionaires abandoned the project. However, Bangkok governor at the time did not listen to experts' advices and granted Tanayong concession to carry out the project. Tanayong managed to borrow enough funds from local and overseas banks to build the civil structure running above the main roads, thus did not have to pay any land expropriation fee. When the civil structure was completed, Tanayong bought train and signal system from German Siemens as well as contracting Siemens to help run the system for 10 years. The first year official opening was about 22 years ago. Even then, some Thai and expatriates still voiced doubts whether the metro could earn enough revenue to cover the running costs as well as earning profits to pay off principals and interests as the first year's ridership was not great barely covering only the operating costs. However, within 5 years the skytrain (Bangkok Transport System or BTS) turned profitable and after 22 years, the BTS is earning huge profit and has long paid off all debts. When the national govt saw BTS success, it also planned its own MRT (Mass Rail Transit) systems, covering more lines (at least 10 now). However, since some lines are run underground and some above ground, no private companies dared to do the same as Tanayong (now renamed BTS Group) as the civil construction is very expensive. So the national govt established MRT to design the lines and tender civil constructions using govt budget. Once civil construction is completed, MRT tenders bids for private operators to secure the train system as well as running them under concessions. Bangkok is now covered by BTS/MRT systems more than 200 kms altogether.

      Kamol Hengkiatisak@.. please stop this bullcrap western narrative about developed and developing.. it propagate this twisted crap narrative about one being superior verses inferior.. Thailand is unique just like all the countries of ASEAN.. it will develop as it goes a long and will surpassed many western countries before the end of the decades.. those that claimed to be the richest has now sunk to the bottom of the cesspit.. the quicker you stop propagating this bull crap the quicker everybody will go forward..

    Thank you! Last time we were in Bangkok we missed going to Embassy Central but enjoyed Icon Siam. This year I thought we’d skip Icon Siam, a deviation from my original plan to visit Icon Siam and Asiatique but this time we really need to go back to Icon Siam. Your videos really made me change my itinerary plans. I loved your videos on Embassy Central and One City, can’t wait to finally try Kay’s and Arabica. Travelling with family so of course there’s more to the itinerary than that. Thank you so much! I love your videos!

    .It is pattern like Emquatere and Emporium.....good for customer who drive car , it is not waste time for turning around , you can park one side then easy to cross the road.

    I haven't been back to Icon Siam since January of 2020. Now with ICS I'm sure more foot traffic will come here as well. Kinda surprised I just found out about this one after opening but never heard of it before. Bangkok always surprises me that's for sure.

    I think that it's already crazy the number of malls that bangkok already has, but I guess with the target being 80 million tourists, then convenience will be an advantage. Somewhere else for me to avoid.

    Dam I am watching this on a 32"-er and it is crystal clear and sharp. Excellent job. 2 questions, 1) if this is considered a higher end grocery store..what does a medium or low end look like. 2) 2 baskets of groceries, how much higher would it be in the higher end store. I am asking for a friend... no I am not it is for me!!!

    It reminds me of the relationship between Siam Center and Siam Paragon. It almost plays a supporting role to the main mall Iconsiam. By the way, I'm always down for a sexy salad.😄

    Lotus used the name 'Prive' to demonstrate 'higher value'..... unfortunate because in old English, the word 'privvy' was used as a shorthand term to refer to a toilet.

    Well the UK is in decline and recession and has very little to offer shopping wise....development has stalled..many big names gone forever..Thailand on the other hand and Asia in general is producing great spaces for all people, of all budgets to walk in and spend time in air conditioning bliss! I've admired this over the last 20 years of visiting..plus such great transport access and cheap...the UK is a dump really ; only Trafford Centre Manchester can be actually very pleasant or the Metrocentre Newcastle..London stores are poor and have never changed and the transport is variable lol ! Plus Picadilly circus is a joke landmark and the West End cinemas require a huge investment of your money for very poor presentation at £20 to £30 pounds per ticket.,shameful! Thai cinemas are cheaper generally and more luxurious

    • @newcamnoddy
      @newcamnoddy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@naughtynightlifeasia857 indeed it is..the poor ness I was referring to is Oxford Street stores ( apart from Selfridges) that are poorly designed inside floor wise etc..unless in the last 5 years they have refurbished? Usually in the UK firms profiteer for years until the place is falling apart before they re invest..unlike Asia and Thailand who refresh regularly every 5 years or so just to reinvent a space..etc which generates public interest and again not just for rich tourists or residents..all budgets are catered for which is their selling point!

    Another corny 90's style mall apart from Thais who actually goes to these places anymore? Most malls seem to be facing demolition crews nowadays.

      In Thailand , wearing or not wearing , people dont care or dont judge anymore. But in USA or Europe you may likely to be judged about wearing mask somehow.

      My remark was not about legislation. Sorry I got you all on the wrong foot. It is just “when will we ever get rid off this whole covid pandemic?”
