- Benchmade 62 - Bali Song BM62
The long awaited 62 is here and it's killer
www.bladeops.co...
This knife comes with a nylon sheath. The handles of this knife are milled from solid stainless steel. The handles come together with a T-latch. The blade is 4.25 inch, D2 steel, which makes it really durable. The back is rounded, which is a fantastic detail of this knife. Get your Benchmade 62 BaliSong at BladeOps today.
I got one for $80 used!! What a steal! Can’t wait to get flippin!!!!
It looks so soft and cuddly and CUTE!
Theres a lot of hate on this knife and I bet half the people hating havent handled one and are just repeating what they read on the forums.
My only problem is the latch. I'll pay the price and deal with SS and sandwich, prefer the aesthetics and blade of the 62, its a super quality piece, I just cant get over that frikken latch. So I went with a 51 since Tachs and ABs are nowhere to be found for reasonable prices. Maybe upgrade to Titanium scales later depending on how it goes.
Bali Song was a company. The type of knife is "butterfly".
yea, because wikipedia is definitely the most reliable source of information
Dudes, quit arguing. Balisong is the type of knife which is Butterfly knife in English. Bali song was the company of Benchmade before they changed their name. Besides search balisong and bali song on Wikipedia, both results of Benchmade and Balisong (knife) will come out. Pretty much what you two are fighting about is pointless.
Legal to own, not carry. As I understand the law, Canada has restrictions on importation/carry of balisongs, but not on kits/parts (i.e. the balisong would have to be taken completely apart). There's a guy here on youtube by the name of CalviNNation, who is from Canada and has balisongs. He does have some videos on the method of how receives his balis from the states.
There are a lot of myths and rumors that surface again and again offering various colorful explanations for the meaning and origin of the word "Balisong." One thing is clear: it comes from the Philippines. In contemporary Tagalog, the most common of the many languages and dialects spoken in the Philippines, balisong means a folding knife with two handles that counter-rotate around the tang. In English, we sometimes use the term butterfly knife to describe such a knife.
go to the under 30 dollars section and you will find some other ones that look like it that have different colors (pretty nice though)
how come this costs more then my hunting rifle and scope togheter??!!!!
Beautiful knife. Shame they're illegal to carry in so many states.
Yea I get the whole titanium to stainless steel thing, but sandwich construction! Really?? I'm really ok with the T-latch but I know what a turn off that is to some. I'm glad it does interfere with the blade tho
I'm not sure when Benchmade bought Bali Song, but when I bought my Bali Song in the mid 1980's, it was not nearly as nice as their current offerings. The little T- lock wore to the extent of being useless. The blade was unsharpenable, and the point was pretty bad. Now they are illegal in Ca. so I won't be able to replace it easily.
Maybe you should do a little research. I bought a 42 about 10 months ago and they offer them on their web site. They have for years.
I wonder if the sandwich construction will last forever like the 42's construction. I'd like to try it out.
okay, lets assume you're right, balisong was a company. in that case, did bradley buy balisong too? or spyderco? or bear? No. the bradley kimura balisong, spyderco spyderfly balisong, and the bear and sons 114b balisongs are called balisongs because they are balisongs. benchmade isnt the only one calling their knives balisongs, everybody does; in fact, here is a QUOTE from the bladeops website: "Butterfly knives are often known as balisongs."
If you wanna get this, don't. I just like the way it looks.
The 51 is cheaper than this and MUCH better at about everything
If you have the money, get the 51, or try to save up a 42 on the secondary market
Seriously... a T-Latch?
ok without looking the costs of either of the two i know a good scope can cost up to a grand and a nice .223 or benelli
That explains why microtech can offer the tach 2 with titanium handles for $60 more than this. Or let alone that they can produce a milled channel style balisong (the 42 was cast) with ball bearing pivots and custom machined hardware and sell it for $400. Also, Benchmade is a MUCH bigger company than Microtech in terms of employees and annual revenue (google the figures). So to say they "can't offer the 42 anymore" is absurd. More likely than not the dies they used for the handles are worn out.
They don't have 42's anymore, I write this on 7/5/13 10:02 PM and don't know what they did 10 months ago, the only ones they have are limited editions for $1,000+
Dis was made 3hours ago in usa its 30 to 12 pm in the uk lol
The 42 and 62 are almost the same and a replacement for the 42 but the 42 will be missed
Cool, thanks.
@2:28 "The T-Latch will not impact the blade" - True, but when the Latch can hit the bitehandle instead, (and this will happen all the way while flipping), it damages both handles and itself, brings nasty scratches and will even destroy the mechanics over the time. Yeaaah, really good work in case of details here! -.- Can't believe a BM-Bali with such a high price, just got a poor Latch as every CCC out there...
Hi bladeops is this knife legal in Canada?
Is the D2 stamp on all 62 balisongs in the same area?
WARNING: Heated knife discussion and childish posts below.
it definitely doesn't come close to the 42 aesthetically, being more expensive than the 42 was to buy i defiantly would rather get a used 42 than a new 62
ok you find a Bali Song or butterfly knife for less any where and send me a link and you will be my hero
42 FTW
I am right. Go to wikipedia and look up Benchmade history.
They could also just find an alternative metal to create the weight and balancing of the 42.
Will there be a version with a pocket clip?
Works for me
No sir, and my collection has only gotten bigger since then.
balisong isnt a company? its a type of knife bro....
Why the inflated price from a dealer?
Guys, wait another month and buy it for $220. Its a regular production so
there not going anywhere.
Man
a remington 700 and an a leupold scandinavian
bring back the 42... -.-
i know, the 42 should be its own replacement
Wrong !!!!! Benchmade is calling their butterfly knives "Balisong" which is why I believe they bought the company. Balisong was its own company. But believe what you want even if you are wrong.
I know they had to charge a premium for the increase in materials, but 350$?! c'mon! make it 250. There's no way that cheaper materials like steel and D2 along with machining, not hand work, can justify 350$. part of BM making it this price is increased material cost and a huge demand for a 42 look alike. IMO obviously.
nice !!
extremely.
I didn't want this knife. I just clicked on the video read the comments. People are so predictable. lulz....
ehh 42 was a better knife. Ti handles and 154cm blade. Plus I got my 42 for $100 less than this (new). I'd get a morpho over this
No spring latch I want the 42 back and sandwitch construction hell no this is just a shittyer version of the 42
can easily cost over a grand
lool dude a balisong and a butterfly knife are the same thing, "balisong" isnt a company, its a type of knife
It's easy to get Balisongs in California. Just order it. CA government doesn't have enough money to nit-pick and intercept every package that comes in and out. I speak from experience. Just order a knife. The cops haven't knock on my door yet.
The joke is the price tag.
Why
Your just saying that because YOU are to cheap to buy a BM42. Or more so only started liking Balisongs after they discontinued it. The 62 is a disappointing to the balisong community.
Looks jusst like any other knife in the market.
let me make my point more clear I dont just mean for less I mean for cheap like under $100
$220.00
1. Make an excellent flipper and charge $180.
2. Discontinue
3. Make heavy ass sub par flipper and charge $350
4. ?????
5. No profit!
Balisong wasn't a company. The name originated in the philipens. And bats engage in oral sex. Its a fact
its not shit, it might not be as good as the 42 but it doesnt mean its a shit knife
nope
i hope this was a joke..
You could check other souces but regardless, you will see that you are WRONG !! I'm sorry that you are wrong but you are. As far as other companies using balisong as a term for their butterfly knives, is like people calling any brand of cola a Coke. Benchmade has made this a generic term.
WTF Its not Titanium My 42 is way better
It is pointless because I am rigjht.
Next time, do your own research instead of parroting what you heard in another youtube video.
I'd love to NOT own that. Cant believe they made that piece of junk.
What is this crap??? this comes nowhere near the 42
300 $ for this shit knife ?!?
