Harken back to 1985. I was buying the original custom-made in Burbank California, Balisongs with hand ground blades by Jody Samson and ordering directly from the staff including Les D'Asis. The handles were quite heavy, being milled out of stainless steel billets with a variety of dovetailed inserts. The weight wasn't necessarily an issue because the aerial acrobatics practiced so widely today by the flipper crowd were mainly absent. The emphasis was on open, use it, and close it, with maybe a single or double flip point up or point down done in the process... The price range was $200 to $300. Inflation being what it is, we are apparently at a point where there is less human intervention and more mass production, and yet higher prices! The glaring issue being willfully ignored is that it is made in the USA. THAT drives the price. It's hard to find quality and US made for much less $. If you want to save $, buy a chicom knife. If you want to support US workers, Benchmade is a solid choice. US labor + material + regulations = $$$.
