Ordered Trace as soon as it opened! The ecosystem that Shaper is building is filled with innovation! Thank you all for the continued efforts to find new ways to create!
Omg I bought the trace! Will be using for my stained glass patterns. I've been imagining something like this for years! Game changer😮 I have a Wazer waterjet.
as far as i understand it "traces" exactly to scale, but you can edit it afterwards. so maybe we can draw in a smaller scale and just size it up? could be a solution
@@h0mersapien This is what I initially thought. I only hope Shaper will provide this feature so that a project larger than the initial frame can be cut for say, an inlay! Best - Michael
Thought I was quick to the draw but ended up on 2nd tier. Thanks for all your work and innovation, truly fantastic and exciting stuff. I love all your products you all have created a great company.
I've had nothing but issues working with Vectors in the past for cutting on vinyl. Even with (expensive) specific vector programs, images were so grainy or distorted that the amount of time to clean up wasn't worth it. So I avoided vectorizing anything hand drawn. I'm SO looking forward to this!!
Should be easy with edge decetion really. You might have to choose a dark background, monochrome, invert, detect edge, I am not sure if Trace can load images and transform them as well, but if it can, that should be enough. If not, you have to print it and then scan it, a bit redundant but works.
Great. Like to see also what happen if you take right a photo of an object that lays on a piece of paper, instead that of redraw the shape of it. does it may also work?
As long as you had good contrast this would work! It would be tricky because the distortion in the source photo wouldn't be adjusted by Trace, only the distortion in the capture photo.
How would this work for a recipe trace? Would you be able to delete the lines if it is on lined paper? Basically, what kind of detail could you delete?
Other question, what happens if you instead of tracing actually would mask the paper and use for example spray paint, would it also find borders in that? Would be interesting to see if it would be possible to scan for example gears in that way.
My atom flashcut needs the DXF file type. I know there are SVG to DXF converters, but can you allow the trace app to export DXF? Also, I would love a larger frame option to trace larger patterns.
Help please Trying to get the two pack but I can t seem to choose it? Says there are still ones available but website does not come up with option to select?
Can the app take a photo and correct for size and distortion? Something I do often is take a photo of an object and put that into fusion 360 so I can trace it and build a 3D model of the object. Having a tool that would automatically correct distortion and get accurate size would make this a lot easier. Another use case I'm thinking of is for making stickers. If you had a colour drawing then if the app could take a photo and trace the outline, you could print the photo onto vinyl and then use a cricut to cut the outline.
@shaper When will the SVG app for Fusion 360 be fixed? "Due to some internal changes made to the Fusion 360 API, the Add-In: 'ShaperUtilities' from 'Brian Ekins' cannot be loaded. You need to install a new version of the Add-In that is compatible with this version of Fusion 360."
It is NOT true that ANY phone will work. The OS has to be after 2018. I could not get my app to work until I borrowed a mobile device that was 2021 OS.
Once again something cool comes out and it's not available to people in Australia 😢 Really guys I can understand the shaper not being able here as it has to be supported with spare and service ect. This is a picture frame with some dots! There's no reason why it couldn't be made available in Australia.
We hear you! Currently our support umbrella is currently limited to North America and Europe. We hope to expand in the future, so stay tuned and thanks for following us!
What might be very helpful could be a user defined “frame” that could be used as a reference for scaling and perspective. That way you could scan almost anything.
Hi Dave, Trace is $79 for early bird backers and will retail for $99 USD. Trace does come with the Frame and Pen, but you're also receiving access to the Trace app for captures.
The issue I see is accuracy. If you are holding a device to take a picture then it will never be exactly parallel to the trace, meaning it will be at a slight angle in any direction, which will affect the final product since you did not trace the product at an angle. You traced it on a flat surface. This is fine if you just want to do a signature or trace a chisel but this will matter a great deal when you want to actually use the product for accuracy. If it is not accurate then it is no different than simply writing in black ink on a piece of white paper, taking a picture with your phone, and then uploading said picture into a jpg to vector free conversion site. Wait...that is exactly what this product is. Nothing more. The problem with doing the second method is the exact same as the problem using this device...neither are accurate. And if neither are accurate...just save the money and take a picture with your phone and upload the image to a vectorizing application (many free ones online). Come on guys....there is nothing new here. You have a created a product that does not solve a problem. You have simply created something to sell and get money. Everything this product does can already be done for free. Sorry but this is 100% true. Just look at the angle the camera was it when it took the keyhole picture. That will never be accurate.
Hi Garry, Trace accounts for any distortion in the photo and corrects for it. The results are extremely accurate and can be used for hardware insert or other operation where accuracy is key. Currently going immediately from camera to vector is not possible, and the distortion correction is not available in any other bitmap tracing software. Once Trace ships you can see this operation for yourself! Accurate results are an important part of Trace.
Greatest thing since the creation of the first CNC. WELL DONE lads !!!
Cool shop ! With all you pros what else can one expect you all very cool people .
Game changer. Another great idea/tool from Shaper!
Amazing addition to Shaper! Absolutely love all the product innovation Shaper has developed.
This is amazing and fantastic. There needs to be one that is about four times as big as this one.

Thanks so much for the kind words and support, Peter!

A bit early to ask but, Any thought on making a bigger frame so you can scan larger objects?
Great question - my hunch is you can tile images and combine at the expense of a little accuracy.
Great answer, I never thought of that.

If they don’t, someone else will. This is a design that is going to get copied really quickly.

Love the shop tour. So much more than we see on Sessions.
We agree! Shop tours are always fun :)
Super Stoked, I just got mine last week 10/12/23 - tried with my signature and wow soooo cool!!!

Love the trace design. Can’t wait to purchase.

Your comment is exactly why we wanted to create something that was intuitive and easy-to-use. Thanks for supporting us!
Amazing addition guys 👍
Add that feature the the Shaper Origin: some tape around the area to scan and off you go...
Can’t wait to get mine. This is fantastic
One more step to the heaven of vectorizing: having the same result without tracing around the object with a pen

So, when is vcarving going to be possible on the origin, that would be awesome together with this.

Hey Shaper, I just saw your studio lighting in the video and was curious, what brand and type are those lights?
We use mainly Aperture lights, Shure audio and Black Magic cameras.
How would this work for a recipe trace? Would you be able to delete the lines if it is on lined paper? Basically, what kind of detail could you delete?
Other question, what happens if you instead of tracing actually would mask the paper and use for example spray paint, would it also find borders in that?

Trace works based on contrast, so this would likely work great!
Hello! Could you demonstrate tracing a pencil sketch with thin lines please? Thank you!
My atom flashcut needs the DXF file type. I know there are SVG to DXF converters, but can you allow the trace app to export DXF? Also, I would love a larger frame option to trace larger patterns.
At this time, Trace will be exporting .SVG files - but thank you for the feedback on how we can improve it further!
Where can you get the 2 color foam?
We don't have a recommended retailer, but it's two-tone Kaizen foam.
Help please
Trying to get the two pack but I can t seem to choose it? Says there are still ones available but website does not come up with option to select?

Couldn't the trace be made with our Shaper Origin?

Trace corrects for any photo distortion of a capture!
The audio is screwed up.
Thanks for the feedback! We'll let our crew know.
How do you keep dust off all those lights and cameras?! Amazing shop, how much to come organize mine LOL
Haha, daily maintenance for sure!

Make sure you have the most recent version of Shaper Utilities installed. If you do, reach out to support@shapertools.com
Where did the foam come from? Kaizen?
Yep! We don't have a recommended retailer but it's Kaizen foam.
Could you just take a photo of the actual chisel and have it carve the shape so you wouldn't have to trace it?
Yep! The dimensionality of the subject might make an imperfect capture, so it'll be more accurate to capture a line drawing.

Hey @craig4451 - send us an email at support@shapertools.com so we can help with Trace!
Cut out molds.

You aren’t fully demonstrating its capabilities without an embroidery machine!!
We're uploading an embroidery video soon!

This thing looks cool, but the audio sync is like watching a dubbed 1970s kung fu movie.
Yes, it was painful to watch

$372 US dollar to Canadian dollar is $491 as of today that’s alot of money for a piece of plastic. Why does it have to be so expensive?

Why are you such a hater? And on top of that to be completely wrong. It adjusts for distortion. Come on reading and listening is fundamental.
